Some sort of group always does Secret Santa gifts. You know, getting a gift for a person that they don't know about.
For me, all of the years I've done it, I've gotten really less-than-satisfactory gifts. Most of them being re-gifted. It's just awful.
But this year I got a great gift, something I actually liked. xD Shocking, no?
So, I was wondering, do you enjoy getting gifts for people? The mystery of the entire thing and just buying gifts for someone you might not know?
Also, have you gotten gifts you've liked or you haven't and what are they? :3
Edit: Upon request, I shall tell you what I got that I loved. xD I got a Nightmare before Christmas beanie and scarf. Which are both really soft and nice. < 3 It made me happy. I love hats and scarves and I like The Nightmare Before Christmas, no matter how cliche it is to like it.

I like Secret Santa as long as there's a limit of $5 to $10 on it. That way even if you get a really terrible present, you don't feel like you wasted your money by participating. I like white elephant gift exchanges better though. The stuff you get in those is always very random and fun.
Edit: What gift did you get this year that you liked?

Fourth grade, my Santa gave me a little ceramic mask that became the start of my collection. I've got nine or so, now.

I always hated Secret Santa when I was younger. xD We had it in the girl scout troop that I was a part of, and most of the time it was just makeup that everyone would get everyone else. First of all, I was in elementary school and early middle school so I was too young to wear the stuff anyways, and second of all I'm twenty now and even still looking back on it, I've continued to not wear makeup. I always thought it was really ridiculous. I always got ten dollar gift cards to bookstores and stuff to give out, and the person receiving it always complained. So I in turn complained about the makeup, and then was kicked out because I wasn't girly enough.
Oh, joy.
Ever since then, I haven't wanted to do Secret Santa stuff ever again. A group of my co-workers were doing it this year, but I don't know what stuff they got from each other. I guess I'll find out when I go in on Thursday, because one of my co-workers that I talk a lot with is going to be there, and they'll be able to tell me what happened at their little Christmas meeting thing they made up just for the people who were participating in that.

I never really played Secret Santa.
One because I never really liked the kids that wanted to play it. They just wanted to get a better gift, and give out a lousy one. Plus I never had the extra money or thought to give someone I really didn't know a gift.

Hehe, yes~ I have gotten a stuffed animal before, and last year I got chocolate. I have yet to open this year's present! I always like my presents; there is just something beautiful about giving gifts. Where I came from, we really only celebrated New Years and our own birthday. So we never really gave gifts, and even if we did, it was usually money or food. My parents always thought that toys and such were not useful, so I never had any toys growing up.
Maybe that is why I am so dull... ._.
Coming to America and learning about all these new holidays like Easter and Christmas was just a breath of fresh air. :>
When I do Secret Santa type exchanges, there is always a $15.00 to $20.00 price range. I always get gift cards or books, depending on if I know the person well or not. If not, it is always gift cards. It is never money, because I always feel that they will think I did not spend time to buy them anything and just pulled some cash out of my wallet. This year though, I did an online Secret Santa for LiveJournal. I bought them a LJ subscription. x_x;
I think now that things are more modernized, it is possible for people to just send things over the internet. I do, however, miss the look on their faces when they receive presents, and just the overall Christmas feeling.
Uh-oh, I am rambling again. >_>

I've only done Secret Santa twice, a kind of long time ago. But it was fun, and we both liked our gifts, both times. I'd like to do it again, but I'm not in any sort of group that does that. :(

Depending on what sort of group I'm with, and how well they know me and vise versa, I've found that it can actually be quite enjoyable. Though, most of the time I've found that secret santa is a waist of time and money.
When I was a kid - even then I liked the more darker versions of things - I either got make up or a plush animal that was pink / some other light color. It annoyed me. Sure, I may have looked like a cute little girl with pigtails that might like stuffed animals, but really I liked classical music and finger paints.
This year, however, we were doing secret santa where I work. I was invited to join in. Since I'm a person that can't say no IRL that easily, I agreed and joined in. The price limit was fifteen dollars. I ended up getting this wonderful keyboard/mouse set that really beat the hell out of my old one. It was really great, specially since I'd had my mind set on getting one.
The item I got for my person was a snow globe from Los Angeles. Off e-bay. I actually spent about 20 something dollars on it, but their reaction was great. Turns out they didn't have it and would be adding it to their collection (which I knew about beforehand, yay).

I like Secret Santa if the person actually takes time to try and find out about the things you like.
In soccer, every year we have a Secret Santa gift exchange...the whole draw the name out of a hat deal. Well the first year I got a stuffed animal, chocolates and a shiny notebook. All a bit useless to me bu meh...it was not that bad. Second year my soccer coach had me and she got me a really cute yellow fleece blanket with soccer balls on it. This year was pretty bad, I got a shirt, probably the ugliest shirt to have ever been made. It wasn't just ugly (it looked liked something someone triple my age would wear), it was the wrong size and it was stretchy.....by no means am I fat, I'm average everything. But seriously, clothes are too personal of a gift to get someone who you know nothing about and will put absolutely no effort into getting to know. She could have saved money by just buying me a scarf (avid hoarder).
Secret Santa is O.K., but only if everyone puts thought and effort into the gifts. = _=

I don't really like buying gifts for people. I would much rather give and receive gift cards because it's just easier that way. Many of the secret santas I have been a part of (offline, not online) have been pretty bad. Before I gave giftcards, I used to give great gifts like CDs or movies with a handmade Christmas card, and I would get something crappy like a picture frame. @ [email protected];

I never really liked it. I had Secret Santa in girlscouts, and I did it twice. I always got them a Target giftcard, because I never really made friends with the people in girl scouts.
I'm not really the skinniest of people, and my secret santa has gotten me a shirt. It was pink, sparkly, and had a big snowflake on it, and it was a medium or something, but it looked like a small. I never liked colors other then dark colors, and the occasional red, I always wore black to girl scouts. I said "Thank You" to her, but I never did anything with that shirt...

I am not a fan of secret santa. I usually end up with 99-cent store gifts, or so I have seen. In early years, I would buy gift cards, until I noticed the 99-cent trend. Since then, I just do the same. I know it might sound selfish or mean, but I don't see the point of going that far out of my way.
I like buying gifts for people, but people that I know! Those whose tastes I understand, and don't have to guess at. So I try to avoid secret santa if at all possible.

Well, usually I don't like Secret Santa too much if it's with people you don't know. One year we did it within our friend group and it was fairly easy for me to get my friend something she'd go crazy over. XD If it's between pretty close friends who know you well enough to get yous something you'll like, I'm fine. But if it's with people who have no idea what you like and try to get me a gift card to the Gap or Old Navy...you may as well have given me dead rat for Christmas. XD
I've loved Nightmare Before Christmas ever since I asked my mom to rent it, watched it, had my mom watch it, and then put my hands over her eyes when Oggie started to lose his bugs because I thought it was too graphic for her to see. XD I remember because thinking back..it's hilarious. So it's not that cliche'...it just is for posers who started to like it after the merchandise came out and other kids started to wear the stuff

My fifth grade class did a Secret Santa thing.
I went to Hawaii, so I didn't get to do it.
I don't feel like I missed out on much. :D
Other than that... never done it.

My improv group always does secret Santa around Christmas time. And this year our budget was around $20. They were all well thought out gifts and everything, and then there was this guy who before giving his gift asked,"Who's my gift for, I forgot." (space-cadet), and so he gave his gift to the person. It was a disposable camera, that was already used.

Secret Santa - when I've done it - has always been annoying because some people ALWAYS forget to do it and then we're short gifts and some people don't get anything and it's just a big mess. Also - some people end up not showing up to the exchange and giving a gift later but that's annoying for people because some people get a gift and get to play around with it that day and others get to sit there and twiddle their thumbs.

I do not care for Secret Santa, especially if it is throughout a whole class of people you do not know. I think it is better when it is within a group of friends who decided to do it.
The worst gift that I received from a Secret Santa was a teddy bear. It was plastic in a weird looking dress. Which was bad enough, but it also had a really sad expression. Who wants a sad looking teddy bear?

I love doing secret santa! This year I bought my friend a little christmas tree and decorated it with chocolates and photos! From my secret santa I got a rose-scented shower gell and a black pashmina. However I only like doing secret santa with friends, otherwise you always end up with someone you know nothing about...and it's always a nightmare to find something for them!
