Lol, this is a random question that popped in my head as I was reading the manga Vampire Knight.
So vampire is a bloodsucker in human form, that's a given. But with all the movies and books about vampires, it's different for each person. We have some that burns into crisp right away when they are exposed to even a bit of sunlight where the others could walk in daylight if they are well dressed. We have the completely mindless ones that just kill kill kill. (Like that one old movie George Clooney was in) And then we have the royal ones that doesn't do that.
So for me I see mainly the white and Asian race vampires. xD (Media affects Dx ) Many live among regular human but like human, they live and act like one. Crosses does not work on them cause heck, it's only a metal or wooden T that may be decorative. Most avoid sunlight but they don't burn to death right away unless they are fully exposed. There are aristocrats but very few. What's even more rare are pureblood vampires.
Humans that were bitten by an aristocrat or pureblood will automatically turn into a vampire themselves. Humans bitten by former human vampires for a short period of time will die.
Yea, that's how vampires are in my head. Px What about yours?

When I think about Vampire, I think about a beautiful person that is always in with the latest fashion. Mostly a white person, or someone tanned. I think of them as only being able to come out in the night, no direct/indirect form of sunlight.
Oh and when they're bitten their eyes become blue or green. Depending on the skin color. >.<

Blood-sucking creatures with a human appearance. There are so many stories about them, so I find it impossible to decide the specifics.
I wonder how the story of vampires got started... It would be interesting to find out. *goes off to search internets*

I think I vampire is a person who like's blood , can't help itself when it get's the first taste. The vampire want's more. They can't help itself. I don't really belive a vampire would be tan because of it's reation to direct sunlight, but then again I don't really know. I think vampire's are very tricky sometime's too.

I never think vampire.
If I did, I don't think of race, because anyone can be turned into a vampire and have fangs and all that jazz.
I don't think 'sexy' or 'ugly' if I did think vampire. I just see them as a vampire. They'll probably look ugly when they want to suck your blood.

I aspire to Anne Rice's version of the Vampire; Ancient, beautiful, able to control humans, mind readers, only old vampires can't be killed by the sun, Look like Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise(even though I didn't care for the movies), etc ^^;;

Well not tan, but have tan because when they were human they were either Mexican or Black. Ya know? So even if they didn't get direct sunlight they'd still have some kind of pigments in their skin.

Well usually I see mass media vampires pretty dumb because they're either invincible to everything or mindless killers. ><; To me a traditional vampire is a blood drinker that can only come out during the night and burn up in sunlight. That way it has some weakness so that the heroine can kill them if it comes to that. They are also weak towards garlic cuz that's just funny and don't have a reflection. Crosses or Bibles may work in some cases and a steak to the heart is a fun way to dispose of them. I also believe that only virgins can be turned into vampires but if their blood is impure and they have already lost their virginity they just die or become zombies. Even though that kind of sucks it depends on what you'd rather want to happen. Would you want to live forever, see your loved ones die, have to acquire a taste for blood, and only be able to go out at night and never see the sun unless you want to die? Or become a mindless zombie who is dead but undead? To me I'd just want to die because living forever would be hell to me. ><;
As for appearance they'll be pale, have fangs *duh*, fairly attractive, and their eyes can change color from normal to red to add extra scaryness.
((Vampire Knight rocks! I collect that series. >w<))

Ahhhh, another thread to love. <3
I have several RP vampires, which were largely inspired by my best friend's observations, so I'll share their specs.
First of all, crosses and other religious objects have no effect on my vampires, unless, of course, they despise what they have become and fear retribution from a higher power. This mindset, many times, comes from the popular view that vampires are really demons, and while the simple truth is that they are 'modified' humans, that mindset persists among the humans they interact with.
Secondly, my vampires do have weaknesses in the silver/garlic/wood/fire/etc. departments, with different items being more dangerous and others being milder. The reason why these objects have any effect on the vampires is because of their unique physiology; they're literally allergic to these things. None of these will kill them unless they inflict a fatal blow or are used against them in excess, but they will leave scars. Sunlight can cause them to become more fatigued faster than humans, but death would have to come from lying out in the sun for days upon days, which isn't exactly a good idea for humans, either.
Thirdly, my vampires are largely capable of many of the things humans are, such as reproduction and eating 'regular' food. I haven't decided how this is possible quite yet, but suffice it to say they aren't really dead, merely modified. Their skin is pale, despite what race of human they originated from, because of a lack of blood flow through the subcutaneous level of skin (their skin receives nutrients in some other form), and while they still have melanin and some are darker skinned than others, no blood flow = paler than usual skin.
As for who and what the first vampire was, I believe they were created by some crazy scientist with a typical "Aryan race" mindset. That scientist's comrades probably also invented werewolves, but that's another story.
To wrap this little ramble up...how are humans transformed into vampires? Very simply: a vampire contains 'poison sacs', similar to a snake's, within their nasopharynx region (or thereabouts; haven't quite worked the details out) that leech the transforming agent when a signal from the vampire's body triggers it. This trigger is often tripped by the sight and/or smell of blood, but a more experienced vampire can prevent the 'poison' from being released; therefore, a person can be bitten but not transformed.
A little side note: there are small extensions to the poison sacs that contain a different agent that is ALWAYS released before feeding. This agent can cause either pain and paralysis in the victim, or pleasure, depending on the vampire's mood.
((Oh gosh, that was long. XD;;; ))

Me, well, I see Tom Cruise. He was perfect in "Interview with the vampire" and well, no one can top that.
The way the look and act is definitely not how "I am Legend" depicts them. Though yes, it was a good movie.
So, I guess I would go with aristocratic, snobbish and well, good looking and pale like porcelain. So, you could also say that I base it mainly off of Anne Rice's version, though I do see bits and pieces from other works, such as Stephen King and some of the friends I've had on gaia while role playing.
Vampires are interesting creatures, and I love 'em^^

I have different views of vampires. The ones in my stories are not really vampires but more half breeds of fallen angels. There is only three main "vampires" and they can walk in the day light without issue. The only thing that relates to vampires is the curse they have. They need blood transfusions and usually they can do it directly. Their fangs are like needles that stab directly in the main veins and can drain the blood into their blood stream easily. Normally they don't need much and only once or twice a year works for them.
Other then that vampires to me really are based in mythology.

At the top of my head, I think of someone who is pale.
Their mood is of course gortesque. I don't believe you are a vampire unless you actually suck or drink human's blood. Some other side notes, I believe that you can only die by a cross or a werewolf. A vampire is nocturnal and lives in a coffin. Sorry for the bad news Count Chocula! xD.

The first thing that pops into my mind when I think of 'vampire' is a rich, arrogant, asshole who is still clinging to the fashion and ideals of some time centuries ago. That's one of the powerful elder vampires who think they're better than everyone and everything else and that the world should bow to them. That includes humans and other, even more powerful, vampires. Oh, and they're obsessed with how they look. xD
And then there's the 'lower' form of vampires which is the second to pop into my head. These are the ones strapped in belts, leather, and chains. The gothy vampires who are also jerks and think that they are powerful. They usually get knocked back into their place by one of the vampires I mentioned first. While the first vampire usually has a plan, does things quietly, these vampires would rather not. They want everyone to look at them, to fear them, blah, blah, blah. They go on bloody killing sprees and enjoy leaving quite a mess behind for some poor scared-to-death men and women to clean up.
And then the third, and last, version of vampire that pops into my head is what I'd like the vampires to be. Or what they originally were. Not sexy, not cool, monsters. I want to see the evil vampires, not the dainty 'I'm oh so pretty, look at me,' boring things that teenage girls seem so obsessed with. I read something a while back that said that the original vampire legend started with them being something more like a zombie than today's vampire. I can't say how true that is, but I think that sounds a lot cooler, but that's just me.
As for a vampire's weakness, I think it depends on how old or how powerful they are. For example, crosses and holy water wouldn't do a darn thing to the 'elder' vampires. They're too powerful for that, but take a newly turned vampire and dip him in holy water and he's got a serious problem. Sunlight is also something that I think would be based on power. If it's a very, very powerful vampire, it can walk during the day only if it's very cloudy. A newly formed vampire would be hurt badly by a little bit of contact with sunlight. Let him walk directly into sunlight and you've got barbecue. I don't think that garlic could hurt any vampire. That just sounds, to me, more far fetched than the vampires themselves. xD Wooden stakes are a problem for any vampire though.
And that's how I see vampires. Sorry for the super huge post. It's an interesting topic for me.

I recently watched a 2 hour special on the history of vampires so my views on them have changed a little bit. I still think of them as dark and beautiful creatures that are misunderstood by society. But that doesn't change the fact that they can still exist in society as a normal person as well. Anyone can be a vampire in today's world, as long as they follow the rules listed in the Black Veil. And today's vampires aren't even allowed to feed off a human physically, only mentally if the victim is willing.
True, when someone mentions the word vampire, we sill think of the elegant blood sucker that many fantasize over, but that's only because Hollywood has built them up that way. In reality, the very first Hollywood vampire was poor and ugly. It's amazing how much the concept has evolved over time.
