Oy vey... I guess I have to pretty much say TL;DR to save myself from straining my eyes trying to read peoples responses. @[email protected];

But here's an example (that probably has been used): The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is quite popular so it got licensed. Unfortunately: no one is buying the DVDs. Why? Because people have downloaded the episodes with the excuse, "Well the dub sucks anyways, etc..." when there is the option of the original Japanese audio track with subs.

So I think the main problem is the that section of the fandom that doesn't financially support the series is really hurting the industry.

And yes, I'm actually old enough to remember that anime wasn't cheap back in the day.

i'm goning to see how much le potraite se petite cosset is.
it might help some of my mental problems.
the manga's where a total of 20 euro's. hms. aha and the dd set would be 26 and around 10 for shipment ..and them aking dollar euros would be 24 euro's
its not that bad.

ADV has recently cited illegal downloaders as the reason their UK branch went under (and the outsourced to a UK based company for distribution) as as why their catalog of titles for that area has been growing so slowly.

I've got a pretty large thread on Gaia Online about the negative affects of illegal anime sources and news about it called Fansubs, Fans, and an Industry in Peril.

less people buying anime in their country = less money to spend on buying new licenses from Japanese companies = less money for the Japanese companies. also, illegal downloads are available to anyone anywhere. what's to stop someone in Japan from downloading fansubs because they think putting up with subs is a small price to pay compared to spending the equivalent of $45-$60 US for one DVD with only 2 or 3 eps an minimal extras? nothing.

@Kyuuki
That accutally makes sense. Why would people in Japan want to buy the dvd when they can watch the show for free on the internet? And its not like they care about the shotty english subtitles. XD

and think about how much more money is lost to the Japanese companies when the Japanese decide to get anime that way. not only is it money that would be going to them directly, but the prices are much higher there so every lost sale can make a big impact.

and lets not forget that while manga does insanely well in Japan their interest in anime is not what it use to be. in fact, the Japanese anime industry came close to going under in the 90's until they started depending on getting money from selling the licenses to companies in other countries.
