juniper, because chinese new years technically falls on different days each year because of the lunar calender. if you're born in and around january and february, your animal could be different because you'd be going by the chinese lunar calender system, not the calender system we all go by today.

I'm a bunny rabbit. x3
I only celebrated Chinese New Year's once, and that was back when I had an asian boyfriend. He was half Chinese and his mother always forced him to celebrate stuff, so we ended up celebrating in a small way.
Since then I've never actually done anything on that day since it isn't part of my culture personally. There just isn't a reason for me to celebrate it. ^^;

Well since I have to culturally celebrate it, I do every year.
I have to start being a vegetarian soon. (no more meat for me for a month.)
I can't wait to see the parade though.
I am year of the sheep. (I can't wait for it to come back.)
@Intoxicating Envy: Yes they are. So is the rabbit and the cat. (please don't bring in the Fruit's Basket (manga) card. xD. I hate explaining it to my chapel's club. Kids these days, thinking manga is non-fiction. lol.)

I was born in the year of the monkey. ^^
They're said to be usually intelligent and creative, but can often cause mischief. xP
Usually, on Chinese New Years we go visit relatives, and eat dumplings, and receive "red bags" with money -- well us kids at least.

I'm a Monkey! I'm glad too. I thought I was a Rooster for the longest time but the Chinese New Year didn't start that year until after my Birthday!

I was born in the year of the horse. My family doesn't have too much of tradition except perphaps we go out for dinner or my mom makes a special dinner, usually with foods that take a long time to perpare. I might get a red packet of money from my parents, but I might not this year because I'm getting old. >.> Curse age!
However, if I ever go to visit relatives overseas during the summer, they usually do give me money packets then to make up for me missing the actual New Year's (not to mention its also close to my birthday date).

For Chinese New Year's my family and a few other chinese familys get together and have a party. Pretty much, the parents talk for hours and the kids go on the computer or watch TV. There is ALWAYS sparkling cider xD Also, there's usually moon cakes.
