I hate "text," "im," and "misspellings for the hell of it" speak. Especially when someone doesn't even know that they do it. There was a girl in a college English class that actually tried to get away with "U kno" as a sentence starter in a paper. -_-;

i've proclaimed that i just don't use capital letters unless i'm trying to be loud, but i do try my very best to use spelling, grammar, and punctuation correctly. to an extent, because i type things out exactly as i would say it in real life.

Yet, see...capitilizing "I" and the first letter of sentences is grammar. Technically, what you are doing is chatspeak. I really don't care either way, I just feel that people shouldn't gripe about things that they themselves do.

like i said, i type the way i talk.
as long as people can read it without having to think about what i'm trying to say, it's good.
what i do go after, though, is spelling and mistaken homophones. and, of course, blatant stupid chatspeak. they require thought to even decipher the entire sentence.

@tireth: I hate when I need a 1337-speak or urban dictionary of some kind to just read a post, or Babelfish because there are some people who don't know how to speak their own language properly. Quite frankly, any incomprehensible English should be contained safely within the covers of James Joyce's Finnegan's Wake. End of story.

So true! They just have more.. presence? XD (the fact that they're bigger helps)
The only reason I buy paperback is that sometimes I just can't afford to buy hardcover books. Even though in the end, they're probably more economical and don't fall apart as easily ._.

I think I might just order them online or something. I'm tired of going to a bookstore to find out that they don't have them.

Haha, I actually have a few books that I bought, but never plan on reading again, only because I bought them at the airport and knew I would have nothing to do on the airplane, or once we got to our destination. I can not handle living in very small towns without a good book, especially when internet connections are very hard to find. *shudder*
Plus the books are too full of sex for my taste. XD; I was like... "oh, nice summary. I think I'll go with this one." You can't exactly make the best judgement at an airport bookstore. I enjoyed the books and all, but I don't really want them anymore.
And I agree about The Host. Meyer's writing is way better in this one >w<

Yes, another person who's reading these! XD
I love the fact that Twilight is the first one on the list, too XD
PSSST. READ THE HOST WHEN YOU'RE DONE WITH THE TWILIGHT SERIES!
RANDOM: Does anyone ever get people asking them why the hell you buy your own books? My parents always ask me why I prefer books instead of clothes. I personally find books more entertaining. Plus I can't outgrow them (in a sense). Dad always assumes I only read things once and that buying books is a waste of time. When I tell him how many times I've read the harry potter series, he says "yeah right". So one day I just snapped back at him, "Just because YOU don't read, doesn't mean I don't." Which is totally true. >_>
It just irritates me when people are like, "books? why do you want books? You're never going to read them again." Obviously, If I'm buying it, it's because I want to keep it for more than 3 weeks.

@ PlatinumChild: The people who ask why you buy books are the same people who wonder why bookstores are still in business, and who read tabloids. Maybe not all the same people who do that, but very very similar.

My people doesn't even read tabloids! XD
I stay away from them. I'm just not into that whole scene. I looooove book stores. I will spend about 30 minutes looking for clothes, and 3 hours looking for books. Both novels and manga, since I'm pretty into manga.
I don't know. Besides drawing, the thing I like doing most is reading. Not only has it helped my vocabulary (I live in a Spanish-speaking household, so.. it's my only way of learning new words), it makes my imagination explode~

@ Hardcover vs. paperback discussion - I actually prefer paperbacks. Hardcovers are very awkward to hold for me, which makes them awkward to read. Unless I just set it open on a table and hunch over it to read (which hurts my back), it ends up hurting my hand. ><
Paper backs you can just bend until they're in a good shape to read. Sometimes I bend them completely in half xD (like the opposite of it being closed)

@jenova - i... have never read that book. now i want to look through, just to see this incomprehensible english.
whoa, you have to use babelfish? sheesh.
@platy - we have those at work. and i reallyreally want to read them. D:
amazon might have them cheaper than your local bookstore.
gah, i always get that from my mom and she's all "you don't read these books everyday, why do you have them?" NARG.
i feel your upset. <3
@cherry - this is truth. that's why i've proposed that i will make leather covers for my books. like those booksox for textbooks. =DDD
and they can be taken off when i need to actually read my books. XDD
this will be a life-long project. i don't even know how i'll go about printing the titles on the covers.
ps.
augh, i need to finish coraline. it's killing me. DDDDD:

Hardback/paperback debate: Heh, I'm only getting The Girl Who Played with Fire as a hardback because I can't wait for it to come out in paperback. I set the height of the shelves on my bookcase all wrong so I prefer paperbacks because they actually fit. I get a lot of my books second hand though, so sometimes I get hardbacks. I have a collection of hardback Stephen Fry novels that cost about £1 each. XD
Tireth: I want to see the Coraline stop-motion animation. Eep.

@Paperback vs Hardcover: I love hardcovers because I don't have to worry about bending the binding if I keep it flat open. Also they do look so much nicer on a shelf. I plan on learning to bind books, not professionally but at least let them look professional. Then I'll turn all my paper backs into hardcover, or at least my favorite ones that I read a million times.
@Platinum: Yeah the teacher got to that particular sentence and dumped the paper into the trash can.
I feel your pain, my dad never allowed me to buy books. Not even one. My mom on the other hand totally agrees with buying books, for me at least, she loves to read but can't reread a book.

I only have like, 5 hardcovers on my bookshelf. xD
Slash (which sucked), Lovely Bones, Jennifer Government, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn.
I own other hardcovers (series of unforunate events, harry potter, etc.) but they're not my "current" books. So they're off in the attic or something.

Cherry:.Paperbacks are pretty comfortable, but I don't like the way the pages sometimes erode at the spot where I put my hands. I don't know what it is, but the book just slowly starts looking less pretty, whereas with hardcovers, I don't have that problem. Even with my small hands, I find hardcovers easy to hold anyway~ Plus they feel more firm in my hand, less flimsy.
Folded books make me sad ;_; It's like... you're breaking it's spine D8
I have folded books in half in the past (as most of my book shelf consists of paperbacks, despite my preference), but I'm really starting to regret it.
Tirethminet:.Ah, lucky! I'm so jealous. I wish I had them handy. I'll see when I have enough money that mom will actually let me bother her credit card, unless I actually find them a a local bookstore for a reasonable price. Maybe I should just get them to order them for me.
Of course we're not going to read a book every day :sarcasm:
But I'd like to OWN my own little personal library, not have to borrow books from someone else.
KatMagenta:.One of the reasons I like hardback is the fact that they get here quicker. It's why I bought Eclipse as a hardcover instead of a paperback. It ate my wallet a little bit more, but It also looks untouched, which is more than I can say for the other two. Especially the one my cousin borrowed. This is why I'm apprehensive about letting people borrow my books. But that's a totally different discussion. XD
Dream And Die:. That's exactly what I think, too! Bend marks irritate me to a point where I want to just buy the hardcover version of the book I bent and sell the paperback. I think I'm semi-OCD with books that way o.e
Binding the books sounds really neat, too *_*
Not letting you buy books?? That's torture! DX I would be so angry with my dad if he ever tried doing that to me. At one point they did their best to keep me from buying them, but when they saw their efforts weren't really getting anywhere, they stopped. XD Plus, I need good books to entertain me on the horrid commute to school. I have to get up at 5 every morning to go to school ._.
Which reminds me, only one more week of freedom D8

Plat - Your hands erode the pages? O_O Do you sweat acid or something? xD;
Yeah, one time I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing (wrapped up in the book) and bent Twilight in half. I felt the little snappy feeling as it gives, and then I was like "....ohfuckwhatdidIdo." xD; Most books I don't care a ton about, but my Twilight books must be perfect.
That little crease still bothers me. ;-; IT'S MOCKING ME.

I actually contemplated that thought, but no. I've even washed my hands and thoroughly dried them, but nothing works! Some books do it to me, some don't, but only the paperbacks have done it so far o.e
I'm sad to say, some of my Harry Potter books have creases on them ;_; This is why the last 4 are hardcover. Oh. And someone lost my Order of the Phoenix ;_;

Huh. Then again, you mentioned that you read your books over and over, right? Most books, I only read once.
The only books I've read more than once in any recent times were Twilight. And my paperback copies (Twilight and New Moon) aren't the little mass market paperback with the funny looking teeny-shredded-paper-fibers-glued-together look. They have thick, smooth pages.
So it must be the quality of the paper.

I...read that as 'mistaken homophobes'. >_>;; And I was like "Whaa? She goes after mistaken homophobes??"
And then had a mental image of you hunting down gay-haters. Which resulted in a small giggle fit. XD;;;
SO anyway. I finished my first book of the new year! :boogie:
And I've got my second.
I was hunting for a video game in my brother's room and found a book of work by Edgar Allan Poe. 8D
I have no idea why it was even in there, since he doesn't even read....but whatever, I stole it. :3
Plat:: My Harry Potter paperbacks have creases in them too. But I've had them for YEARS and I've loved them very much. So it makes sense that they're worn. 4-7 are hardback though. The jackets are lost. And The Half-Blood Prince is just...disappeared. ; -;
