Well this sounds like it might be an interesting challenge. I think I may try this!

Since I've been sick lately, I decided to treat myself to ordering a book off of Barnes and Noble online. I still have about $25 on an old Christmas giftcard, so I spent a while browsing around and finally settled on the new Roddy Doyle book that came out just a little while ago. I'm excited - It should be shipped here in just a few days.

This is an amazing idea <3 I read so many books o.o

I can't begin to count all the pages I've read since the new year started ^^;

So, I guess I'll just start fresh from here on out and keep track.

Hopefully, I'll post a list eventually xD

As for now, I started reading on Dark Cindy by M. Apostolina. I have read a few pages and I can say that it is great for those of you looking for young adult books or the like. X3333

By the way, I have updated my list <3

@ chaitealatte:
Dramacon! X3

I'm not a big manga fan - I have nothing against, it; I'm neutral. However, Dramacon's one of my favorite series~ X3
It's hilarious - you can ask my classmates. >>;
I was reading it in class and I kept laughing out loud. xD;;

I went to the library yesterday. :3
I got some short-ish books, but they seemed interesting...

One of the books I got was Shatterglass, by Tamora Pierce. I kept hearing of how great of a writer she was, so I was so tempted to read one of her books~
I've barely read a dozen pages, yet I love it so far!
The writing flows so well, the details are just so, but not annoying...
:DD

At the library, I read two books:
Clockwork, by Philip Pullman, and
Clemency Pogue: Fairy Killer by JT Petty

Clockwork was very interesting; I liked it~ :3
Clemency Pogue was rather cute. ^^
It's about a girl who encounters a meanie fairy in the forest. Her dad tells her stories a lot, because that's the kind of dad he is, so she thinks of Peter Pan. She starts yelling " I don't believe in fairies!! " until the meanie fairy dies. D;
And then a hobgoblin comes up and they rescue all the fairies she's killed by yelling the phrase.
It's from a series, but I've only read that one book.
I'm not counting it for my list, though, because it was waayy too short. ^^;

I actually read those two books because I was waiting on my dad. ^^;; Passing time, yeah... =P

Other books I got were:
Project Mulberry, by Linda Sue Park,
The Plain Janes, a graphic novel by Cecil Castellucci and Jim Rugg
Something Invisible, Siobhan Parkinson,
Loser, by Jerry Spinelli ( I read this once before, but I just had to read it again. >>; )
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll, and
Through the Looking Glass, also by Lewis Carroll.
:3

Short, I know, but... ^^;

  • Just finished "The Abduction of Sita", a small portion of the Ramayana. Now I wanna know where I can read the whole thing. So far, I'm looking at either this book or this set. Maybe one, then the other. Though I think both are prose versions. I've found what I guess is a translation in its original format, but it's only available online. I gotta have me a book-version.

    It's hard figuring out what to read, when what you're looking for is over 2,000 years old and not in a language you know and has so many different translations/versions/editions/etc to pick from.

    Clearly, I have no idea what I'm doing/talking about. @,@

    But anyway, back to the question I asked a page back: If you start a book in 07, but finish it in 08, can it be added to your list? Maybe only add the pages read in 08 to the page count? Something?

^ If you want it to count, it can count. That's the only rule. =)

The book that I ordered was a day late in being shipped out, so I haven't gotten it yet. It's disappointing...

So far the books on my list for this year are:

Seeing Redd: Second book of the Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor

The Lion, The Witch, and the Waredrobe by CS Lewis

Fables - Forgetting who write and illustrates it, but book 6 and "1000 nights of Snowfall"

Planetary - Another comic book, #3 in the series.

I get paid tomorrow so I'm going to add the second "Battle Royale Ultimate Edition" on my list.

Ohhh, i'd so like to try. But I don't think I could do 50 books. -Looks at the books she has to read- I could make the page goal though. :3 Damn long books. xD

Edit - Waaaait. Does manga count? o:

Mangas can count if you want them too. Magazines can count too, and textbooks, and anything else that happens to have printed words on it. You guys can start counting the back of cereal boxes for all I care. =)

My book came in the mail today!
Too bad I won't be able to start reading it for a little while. I've got too many tests coming up...

Well, I'm going to be picky about my difference with mangas/comics. To me ones such as "Ghost in the Shell" and "The Sandman" series are not on par with "Fruits Basket" and "The Uncanny X-Men"

Need to go pick up a new book tomorrow.

I decided no, I wont count mangas, but I might also post them here and see if I can hit 50 manga AS WELL AS 50 books. xD Even though the manga one will be damn easy. xD

So, next time I post here it'll be my books to read/read/currently reading list. It'll give me some motivation to start reading again. I've been slacking and my unread books pile is building up. ;-; (My half read book pile is worse. xD Imma have to start them all again. ;-;)

I have about 20 books to read. :3 Then I might go through my Dad's Stephen King/James Herbert collection. Or my Mum's non-fiction murderer stuff, because that's good too. :3 I don't think we have any books in this house under like, 300 pages. Apart from my classics (War of the Worlds, A Clockwork Orange&so on). Dx

Fifty's a bit low. I have to read that just for my Children's Lit class this year! Of course, some of those are picture books, but most aren't. I'm going to have to think about what I've read so far...my goal's going to have to be around 250.

*sneaks into thread* May I join? I'll have to find all the books I've read in the last 2 months...Or should I start now and finish my year in Feb. 09?

I read the Giver a couple years ago. *SPOILERS* highligh for discussion of ending:
The main charrie and the little boy have escaped their weirdo home colony and have travelled into the normal world. At least that's what I got. END SPOILERS.

@Joie: Yeah, when I'm not too crunched for time I read about a novel a day. Since I'm so busy lately I might as well do this challenge, plus the community talking about it should be fun.

@Lemon: Yes, I said 250 because I know I won't read a book every day this year, although some days I read more than one. It all depends on what's going on in life. Besides, I can keep track of what I've read and avoid reading my favorites ten times.

joieD: well it depends, are these relatively short stories?
because i have almost past 25 books and all of them are
about 200-400 pages long.

@sweet lemon effect: i read the three last pages like a
dozen times and i hate how it just ends so abruptly D:<
i don't understand why he doesn't finish the story.

Well really, what else could have happened in the story? The main charrie (so long ago I don't remember his name!) and the boy probably just go to the authorities, get taken in and live their lives in the real world.

It was my understanding that the controlled world he lived in was legal and voluntary. Though the book is really good and interesting IMO.

I hate how when I have library books, if I'm reading like 8 at a time, some of the less engrossing ones won't get read in time and I'll have to give them back to the library half-finished.

@kitkat: For my 250, I'm not counting the short stuff. I mean, an anthology of short stories, sure, but not the picture books I'm reading for class. Not that some of them aren't much more complicated than people think. The books I'm counting are all going to be at least 200 pages, unless they're something special and incredibly dense. I'm still counting what I'm up to this year. It's hard to remember. Maybe I'll start tomorrow and end Feb 22 next year.
