I finished another fairy tale story--Before Midnight. I liked that one too. There's just something about fresh views on fairy tales. I love them.

I honestly think I should go read some of those types of books... but first of all I have no idea which ones are out there and which ones are good... and second.... I've got a TON of other books to read. *cries* (Is updating her currently reading list with the books that she brought with her... ^.^; )

I finally finished what's out of the Merry Gentry series.
I also read Warrior's Rising by P.C. Cast but that one was 'eh.' ::wags hand in air::

I'm waiting for it the be Tuesday already so I can get the Hunted book. Untamed was a serious cliff hanger.

Anyway I am Psychotic Cricket, or Spelled Kat which is my other name. I'm also Rainbow Spelled Kat on Gaia. I came to this thread since I'm a part of the Book thread on Kinsaki.. though I haven't been on Kinsaki much lately. I noticed Chais name so it seems safe to plop in here.

I don't think I'll sign up though. I read a bit to fast for a challenge to count much anyway. That and I read the same things over and over again anyway..

I'm currently tearing through the Southern vampire series by Charlaine Harris - they' not bad, but they're not good - to me they're like romance novels . .brain candy :lol:

I borrowed the first 4 books from the library but then there were too many holds on the next book so I borrowed the rest of them form a co-worker - I read book 5 (Dead as a Doornail) in 7 hours :shock:

I read those a while back. They're like romance/mystery.
They were pretty good. I liked the last one because it wasn't as much of a cliff hanger than the rest.

I went to get those from my library the other day but for some odd reason my library has all the books that are in print, except the first one. o_O;;

I grabbed Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan Series instead because it was right there. It's pretty interesting so far (I'm not terribly far into the first one though).

Can I please has some reccomendations? XD I could use all the recommendations I can get, but I don't think I'll get around to reading them for a while. Back when I was in... like the 11th grade or so I was told to read 1984. I FINALLY did about 6 years later or so. Just as long as I have a list somewhere I can usually remember to read what people recommend. ^.^

On another topic, I finally finished The Catcher in the Rye. FINALLY. I've never read a single book that was that hard to get into. And it may have been the way they spoke instead of the language. Or the fact that he jumped from topic to topic about as many times as my mind does in a day and just a little bit faster. Anyway, I think the movie would have to be a lot better because they can't show you what's in someone's mind as well in movies.

Oh -a really good book to read is The Orphan's Tales: In the Night Garden by Catherynne M. Valente and there is a 2nd book called The Orphan's Tales: In the Cities of Coin and Spice

It's a series of nested stories. . kind of like 1001 Arabian Nights - it takes a bit to get into but I know once i was a few chapters in I couldn't put the books down.

I'm tempted to read those! They sound interesting, at least. But I'm not big on series, and I'm all ready in deep with a few more than I'd like. I think the ones I'm currently reading/about to read are The Achemyst, Ranger's Apprentice, the Firekeeper saga, Thirteen Oprhans, Eon, the Georgina Kincaid novels, the Vampire Academy, another series by Richelle Mead that I can't remember the name of, and the Luxe books. I don't like to be having to keep track of more than two or three series at once, so this is not happy for me. XD

The Southern Vampire Series actually doesn't really read like a series. It's more like one really big book in 7 (or 8 can't remember at the moment) different books. Either way it doesn't really read like a typical series would. That's one reason I ended up continuing to read them all.

My favorite fairy tale-ish book is Villains by Necessity by Eve Forward that turns the usual hero tale inside out by making the villains (an assassin, a druid, a thief, a Necromancer, a dark knight, and a centaur) the heroes of the story. Unfortunately, that one is hard to find--the cheapest paperback copy is about $29 on Amazon because it's out of print and borders on being pretty rare.

Psychotic Cricket- It's not so much reading series as it is keeping up with all the books in them. I'm too scatterbrained for such things. XD

Eep, I haven't got my own computer set back up yet but my dad's gone out so I'm borrowing his.

I finished Less Than Zero, read one of my Torchwood books and a Poirot book so I'll update my list. ^^

At first, my list will be filled with Mary Higgins Clark and Nicholas Sparks because I had already set a goal to read the books on my book case 1 by 1 until I read them all before purchasing any more books (which didn't hold out long 'cause once I started the Vampire Kisses series, I immediately bought all 5 books and am on pins and needles waiting for the 6th to come out in May; plus I plan on purchasing the Vampirates series next month if I don't get it for my birthday)~

Yuri-san- Is the Vampire Kisses series good? I've been meaning to dip into a few more vampire and/or werewolf books, and I see Vampire Kisses alot.

I'm the same way! XD I try to avoid bookstores. The library is safer for my wallet, though it does make me sad, because I like to own books. ;_;

Vampire Kisses is amazing!
I mean, sure, it's has a Twilight feel to it, but that's only because it's a Vampire/Human love story~
The plot is very different and totally cute~
I'd definitely recommend it :3

Vampirates is another cute series I'd recommend if you like Pirates and Vampires -- it's the perfect combo~
I've only read the first novel of it, but the story line seems pretty good and I absolutely adore the shanty that pops up throughout the novel about Vampirates <3
Whenever I read it, all I can think of is the music for the beginning song to Tinker Bell -- I know, strange reference, but the music of "To The Fairies They Draw Near" by Lorenna Mckennit fits perfectly if you sing it right :3

The same thing happened with the Fool's Gold series (completely adored, though it was a tad disturbing at times) and the Vampirates series :3

I always tell her "It's not the same! I'd like to have the option to just go to my book case and grab the book I'm craving to read even if I've already read it -- I like re-reading my novels! Besides, I want my future kids to be able to love books as much as I do and I want them to have the same range of novels I had~ In a library, they risk reading ruined books or not having the chance to read some amazing novels that the school or public library simply doesn't carry :/"

Okay, I will look into both of those! I read some of the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice, and LOVED them, and then I read Twilight... Which I did not like. X_x Werewolf-wise, I read Blood and Chocolate, which was FANTASTIC. And recently, I got a werewolf book called Sharp Teeth from the library, and several vampire books. Suck It Up, Silver Kisses, and the Vampire Academy novels by Richelle mead, who is one of my very favorite authors! I like to see how different authors interperet popular things like vampires and werewolves, it's interesting to me!

I like to get books that I read and loved! It's just so nice to have them! Heh, there's a series I really love called the Firekeeper saga, and I own all six books in paperback, and two of the six in hardback. XD I just love it that much.

I don't really run into my library not having books I want, though. There's 44 branches all over the city and surrounding towns, and you can have books from any branch sent to your local library. I love it! And when they don't have something, you can request they get it, and usually they're pretty quick about it. I requested a book that had been out for some years and was the third book in a series I was reading. (The library had the first two.) Not a week later, I searched for it again, and the catalouge had it. It's great!
