Iltu - I'm getting in the habit of reading more books out loud these days. Especially when they're classics... it helps to slow it down quite a bit since I read a lot faster than I talk. Not to mention that it makes the monologues by Henry come across as even more interesting!

Same~
That's why I'm 90% sure I'll like it 'cause when I say I won't like a book, I usually end up loving it and making it one of my favorites xD
Kind of like with Daughter of Venice by Donna Jo Napoli - I had a feeling I might like it because it was placed in Venice, but I wasn't sure if I would just simply because I wasn't sure if the story plot would keep me interested -- after reading it, I ended up going out and buying it (I had initially borrowed it from the library) and have reread it a couple times since :3

Thankies!
I'll definitely save that link when I get home from school and look into it :3

Side note, I finished Betrayed by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast, and am now around 50 or 60 pages into the next novel in the House of Night series, Chosen
I -love- this series beyond description~
I even talked my sister into trying it out when she can (and she generally doesn't like vampires) simply because I've been raving about it so much and have made her curious xD

@ minet ~ oh I will, trust me.... LOL. But if that wasn't enough my boyfriend's been asking me how far I've gotten in the series he asked me to read and I've been borrowing too many books from the library. It's sad.

I like the preface to The Picture of Dorian Gray. All art is quite useless.

I finished one of my football (proper football, where you actually use your feet) books. I'm reading a book called How to Speak Dragonese because they have a poster as you go into the library with 'Premier League Stars' recommending books for children and Jussi Jääskeläinen picked it. The only other one I can remember is Wayne Rooney recommends the first Harry Potter. XD

Kamikaze- I have tried that, mostly in attempt to read to my dogs than trying to slow the story down. XD I can't do it for more than a page. I drift off and don't realize I've stopped for another couple pages!

Yuri- Yes, I actually just read a book called Suite Scarlett that I thought I'd hate but actually quite liked! And now I'm reading The Foretelling by Alice Hoffman- I dodn't know if I'd like it, but it's already one of my favorites. <3

Speaking of which, *eases into genereal conversation* I need to reed more Alice Hoffman! :gonk: I've read Green Angel, which was amazing, Indigo, which I liked, and now, like I said to Yuri, I'm reading The Fortelling which is astounding. Does anyone have any books by her that they'd reccomend?

Woo! My half priced books came in today!

Also I had the weirdest dream last night:
Erik (Phantom of the Opera) and Jean-Claude (Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter) were grocery shopping and they were in a yogurt aisle. Yes an aisle with nothing but yogurt: strawberry on one side and strawberry-banana on the other side, and that was all the flavors. So they were picking out yogurt when they randomly broke out into "Can't Get It Up If the Girl's Breathing?" From Repo! The Genetic Opera with Jean-Claude doing Amber Sweet's part and Erik as Graverobber. XD
For anyone who doesn't know the lyrics.. xD

My brain, it works weird.

That's a rather funny dream Dream and Die.
I've never had a dream like that.
Though, I do remember my dream from last night.
Which is odd. Haha.

Well, her most famous book is Practical Magic, which the movie is based off of...She's written more adult books than teen ones.

@Zaniel: It's still open, you can start anytime you want.
I don't really choose my books before hand. I find a pretty book, I read it.

@Massage: I know it was odd. I had one like it before but they were buying shoes instead.

@leenie: No problem, that's why I'm here.

Dream- That is the most amusing thing I have heard all day.

And I have heard lots of amusing things today.

Shadowfoot- I've heard of Practical Magic, but didn't know it was by her. I'll look for it! I've got White Horses by her out from the library right now, so we'll see how that goes.

Zaniel- You can start whenever you choose to. :) I started on December 13th, though I'll be waiting until January 1st this year, just because that's not terribly long to wait and also it will just make me feel better.
I just pick out books as I go. XD;

I think so. ^_^
I really like it and the author is on the witty side so the book doesn't seem like a 'history' book.

The best part is the author makes great comments in the middle of paragraphs and stuff.
Like after a part describing a really "obscene" roman poem, the author writes:
Quote:
"That's it, I'm going straight." - Nigel Cawthorne, pg 30
Cawthorne also has an entire series of the Sex Lives books. I can't wait to read Sex Lives of Famous Gays. xD

Thoth- I just wasted like an hour on a book called The Phenix Dance by Dia Calhoun, which I ended up not liking. I stopped after the hour. But now I'm picking up where I left off in An Evil Guest by Gene Wolfe and I'm glad. It's a great book, set one hundred years in the future with a very... film noir feel. It's about an actress named Cassie who starts working and falling for a man named Gideon Chase, and he's playing her one hundred thousand dollars to get information on a man named Bill Reis. Only she starts falling for him too, and there's potentially people after Cassie outside of Gideon or Bill's resources, and it's so excellent.

I'm rooting for Gideon. He's much cooler.

I find it kind of sad that I didn't get to do the list this year.
I've probably read about 40 books already this year I just haven't had the opportunity to write them all down and keep track of them.
Meh..oh well.
Maybe I'll just start a list for the last half of the year. :P

Oh thats good, dream because history books can be sooo boring sometimes.
I've read some super boring historical fiction before, but I really like novels with historical information... makes it somewhat realistic.

Sounds like a good book, Iltu. Thats like action and romance mixed together in a novel.
With all the searching for info... kinda reminds me of a book I was reading earlier that was about espionage. lol.

Yea totally do it, immortal and you can write down any books you remember reading.

Hey vitorai... you could maybe pm knerd of the page with the post for the list so she can link it to the front page.

@Vitorai: Like Thoth said, Knerd will put a link on the front page, but if you want to link it right now then the little 'permalink' button in the corner of your post will link back to this page and adjust to where your post is.

@Thoth: I really love historical books and history but it really is just to easy to make them brain numbingly boring. @[email protected]
