Well, I was browsing through the Books forum, and I strayed into a Garth Nix thread. All the posts praise his works, but it's also possible that only the people who liked his works were the people who posted... ^^; Still, I'm going to add it to my To-Read list and see for myself~ >w<;

Edit;
-shivers-
I was going to add Misery on my list, but then I went to read the Wiki plot summary... I'm not sure I can sleep after reading that, much less the novel. xD;
I like Garth Nix. But it has been awhile since I read any of them so I can't really say why right now.

I fell in love with the Abhorsen Trilogy when it first came out. They are some of the better teen fantasy novels in print right now. So yeah - Those three definitely get my recommendation.

But none of his other work ever impressed me. The Ragwitch is just downright horrible, and Shade's Children is a pretty run-of-the-mill story. Nothing to write home about.

So I can't say that I really like Garth Nix as an author - He was more of a one hit wonder.

Ooh, okay, I see. Thanks!
Ehe, one hit wonder. >>;

I think the Abhorsen Trilogy would be an interesting read; I think I'll add it to my book list... P:

I'm focusing on getting books that are easier to find. xD
I removed two books off my To-Read list because I couldn't find them. D;
Strangely enough, when I searched the library's catalog, it said they did have them, but I couldn't find them anywhere. .__. ;
I'll probably look into them next year, when I'm more familiar with the library. xD

@Knerd- Those are the books I liked. I never read any of the others. There is a short story in Across the Wall: A Tale of the Abhorsen and Other Stories about abhorsen but I didn't think it was very good.

@tentenpuff- I used to spend a lot of time in my local library and noticed that books get lost all the time. I would look up a book and it would say it was in the fantasy section only to find it in the romance section. I ended up not useing the search system but instead walking around looking for the authors name everywhere. Try looking in the kids section. I was really suprised what was in there. A lot of the older books are in there.

@ Lilith:
Haha, okay! I'll do that next time I visit the library! :3

Yeah, at my library, there's a lot of YA books in the children's section. >>;
I feel weird getting a bunch of books there in the same room as little picture books; Louis Sachar, Jerry Spinelli, and most of Tamora Pierce's books are there. xD;
And then the YA section is more like the Adults section. =P;

I think that the librarians don't take the time to reorganize the books. The YA section is kind of new so before they went into the kid's section. I want to get a job there so I can reshelf the books.

Ooh, I see. ^^
I'm still getting acquainted with my library. xD
I've been to it before; it's not brand new to me, but...
I haven't been going to the library regularly until earlier this year. :3
I like it a lot; I mean, for no charge at all, you get access to a big building of books, graphic novels, movies, tapes, etc, etc. It's just that it's pretty big, so I'm still finding my way around it. xD;
It wouldn't hurt to take a look at the events at the library, either... P:

My library isn't huge. It has like three manga and no anime but I love it anyways.
And don't be afraid to ask for help. Librarians are usually very nice.
I love the events they have espacially the book sales. My library has a sale where you can put as many books as you can into a plastic sack for $5. Their usually really old books that no one wants to read but I have found some great finds.
Watch out for slumber parties they are so much fun.

Let me enlighten you with what I read in the plot summary:
Hey, there's nothing wrong with a mental image of nekkid Edward. ;D

But yeah, I shouldn't think anymore. ._ .

Ohoh! Yeah! I forgot. I was getting the book and the movie confused.
Yeah, the book is sort of gruesome. But it's not like, super scary. ^^

Over the past few days I've read several more books... Little White Lies (312), The stranger from Medina (192), Long Road to La Rosa (192), Thunder on the Dos Gatos (188), and Stallions at Burnt Rock (191). The last four were part of a series by Paul Bagdon. They're set in the west a few years after the civil wars got over..in all a very good read. I don't remember who the author of Little White Lies is, but it was very good as well, pretty much about headhunters (recruiters for big businesses who find people perfect for jobs), and murder and intrigue.

I know I told you guys last week, but I love library fairs.

I went to another one this morning and came back with an amazing bag full of books:

The Dwarf by Par Lagerkvist
The Debtford Trilogy by Robertson Davies
The Rhinoceres byEugene Ionesco
Laughable Loves by Milan Kundera
The Accident by Elie Wiesel
The Woman Who Walked Into Doors by Roddy Doyle
Unfinished Tales by Tolkein
Desertion by Abdulrazk Gurnah

Any one of those books would have made the day worth while, and I'm just amazed that I found them all.

@Immortaleyes:
The name Paul Bagdon rings a bell, but I don't think I've ever read anything by him. Did he write Deserter, too?

I loved the Abhorson books by Nix!

However, I have stopped partway through the second one for some reason.

^ For the most part. They're all paperbacks, they still have their covers, and they don't have that musty smell. So that's really all I could hope for.

The only time I remember this particular sale having really good condition books was for a few days last year (the sale is every other Saturday during summer). The librarians had a box of hard cover Random House "Classics" books from the 1920s. They aren't worth anything, since collections like that were always mass produced, but they were still nice mementos. I bought at least five of them then.

Aww. I hate books that are all creased up and stuff. >.<
I don't mind some shelf wear, I just hate those ugly white creases.
Some people manage to get them on the covers, not just the spine. How careless do you have to be with a book for that to happen? [/rant]

But it still sounds like a nice sale. :) I wish I was aware of something like that around here.... I need to get my hands on a copy of Nineteen Eighty-Four.

I found myself in a thrift store...earlier last year and I kid you not, they had an entire small room covered with bookshelves full of paperback books. Some of them were horrible looking, others weren't so bad. I found some pretty cool older fantasy books, and the nice thing...they were selling each one for 50 cents! I think I came away with...at least 8 books. I don't remember which ones they were, save that I got two or three of the Xanth series which were in pretty good condition. I wish I could go back there, but I don't remember where it was.
:(
Oh, I was a naughty page today...I spent at least an hour of work time reading again. I finished a paperback book that was 247 pages long. I've been reading inspirational romance/suspense books...they are a lot of fun to read.
Rainbow's End and Glory Be...are some pretty good books.
I've gotten like...5 or 6 of Win Blevine's western books that I'm going to start reading next.

I finished reading "The Merdmaid's Chair" just yesterday. It's a good story, but I didn't feel "complete" when I got to the end of the story, even though it wraps up nicely enough. I guess it's the protagonist just didn't end up with the guy I wanted her to end up with, but it seems that it's what makes her happy, so that's okay. The parts where her mother cuts off a finger is pretty creepy, but it's part of the symbolism of the story.

I need to read The Secret Life of Bees. I hear that one's better >w<

I buy virtually all my books at thrift stores. :sweat:
Sometimes I spring for new ones, but not often. I did just buy A Stroke of Midnight by Laurell K. Hamilton new, though. I'm like three books behind in that series so I thought it was time to stop waiting for it to come into the secondhand shop. xD

Um...I don't know if any of you have ever read The Vampire Chronicles or not, but if you have, can you please tell me if I'm the only one that found The Queen of the Damned to be almost painfully slow? I finally finished it though, and now I'm reading The Tale of the Body Thief.

I can't remember, seeing as how I read Queen of the Damned 3 years ago, but I guess it was kinda slow. I started reading Tale of the Body Thief and then lost it. Found it two years later, so now I'll probably have to start over ^^;

Its been a lot easier for me to get into. I started reading it yesterday and I'm 148 pages in.
I think The Queen of the Damned was a little hard to follow too. Maybe its just me though, who knows. @[email protected]

Oh, if it's one thing I can remember, is that it WAS a tad hard to follow. Maybe that's why I had a bit of a hard time with it?

One of my favorites is still the Vampire Lestat
