I used to think it was about vampires, but, uh not so sure, defiantly a mystery...
Quote:
Cheerleader Isobel Lanley is horrified when she is paired with Varen Nethers for an English project, which is due—so unfair—on the day of the rival game. Cold and aloof, sardonic and sharp-tongued, Varen makes it clear he’d rather not have anything to do with her either. But when Isobel discovers strange writing in his journal, she can’t help but give this enigmatic boy with the piercing eyes another look.
Soon, Isobel finds herself making excuses to be with Varen. Steadily pulled away from her friends and her possessive boyfriend, Isobel ventures deeper and deeper into the dream world Varen has created through the pages of his notebook, a realm where the terrifying stories of Edgar Allan Poe come to life.
As her world begins to unravel around her, Isobel discovers that dreams, like words, hold more power than she ever imagined, and that the most frightening realities are those of the mind. Now she must find a way to reach Varen before he is consumed by the shadows of his own nightmares.

Hm, sounds pretty interesting. :) I might check it out. I figured it might have something to do with Poe from the title. Or rather assumed haha. Are you reading it just now?

If any of you guys have a tumblr account, I'm going to be a bit of a jerk and promo myself.
Blind Dating: Lit Style!
Quote:

How It Works:
1. During the next 24 hours, you will message me the title and author of your favorite book.
2. If you’re a good person, you’ll share this message throughout your page and friends list so that others can see it and send in their favorite books as well.
3. On the morning of February 15th, I will mix up the list and you will receive a message that includes another person’s username and their favorite book. Meanwhile, another participant will be given your name and book.
4. You will then read this book! And post about it on your tumblr! And either praise or curse the name of the person who gave it to you! By going on this “blind date,” you’re agreeing to try out whatever new form of literature comes your way. It’s the opportunity to try something new and exciting. Perhaps it will fall flat and you won’t fall in love, but perhaps something magical will spark between you two. You never know, so why not give it a shot?

If you guys want to participate in my little game, feel free to message me either on tumblr or here on Mene. The more people we get submitting, the better!

I love that idea, Knerd!!
I know I've seen some libraries that do something similar... where they cover the books in paper and write vague descriptive words on the cover to hint at the type of book. I always thought those things sounded fun!
I wish that I had more time to participate, but I don't even think I can attempt my challenge this year as it's my last year of school and I'm cramming so much in right now. :(
I will totally follow you on Tumblr, though. xD

I just finished a really good book called The Selection by Kiera Cass.
It puts a whole new spin on dating at least for the royalty.
I will admit it was pretty amusing: When I first picked it up, I was like 'this is going to be a good book,' i started reading it then i was 'eh' but i wound up never putting it down. I read it in about two days, maybe three if that.
I can't wait until the next book comes out. Unfortunately that won't be until late April (I've already got it pre-ordered. :P )

@Knerd: Thanks! Hmmm. I wonder what I'll get...
@Whispering Whispers: Basically, the Prince will host something called The Selection, where thirty-five girls from around the country and from different statuses are gathered in order to try to be the one he picks for his bride. However, America- the girl that the book follows- does not want to be a part of the charade, but she winds up going anyway.
It's really good, I'd recommend it. And like I said, can't wait for the next one to come out. :D

Motivational poke for Vinyl!
I'm very nearly finished Moonraker and then I don't know whether to look for Diamonds Are Forever or to leave James Bond alone for a while.

Ive decided that I'm going to re-read The Da Vinci Code and The Lost Symbol - working my way through Da Vinci Code now. =]
Edit: And then out of some craziness, I managed to read it all in one day. I must not have a life that demands attention. On to my next book now. :P

You can do it, Vinyl!
I finished John Dies at the End the other day. I enjoyed it, but I felt like sometimes the author was being immature just for the sake of being immature. It felt kind of awkward and shoe-horned at times. But the sequel is supposed to be better for that, and I enjoyed the book despite that, so I look forward to reading it.
Now to decide what to read next... It's between Making Money by Terry Pratchett, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, or Maggie Cassidy by Jack Kerouac. I'm leaning towards Maggie Cassidy because 1) it's the shortest, and 2) I have no idea what to expect with it. I got halfway through Dragon Tattoo before losing my place and forgetting a lot of important details, and I read the Discworld book that Making Money is a direct sequel to, so I know roughly how these books are gonna go. Maggie is a mystery to me, though! Never read any Kerouac before.

Cherry, was that the book you said had all the fart jokes?
I've read one Kerouac book and it just wasn't my style. I had to force myself to finish it. It didn't help that I read it during the holidays while my older brother was visiting and he couldn't stop praising it the entire time. His face completely fell what I said I wasn't enjoying it.
Maybe Kerouac is more of a "guy" author, all of the fans I've met have been older men.

Yep, that's the one. Like, it would be really interesting and unique and suspenseful and then suddenly a monster literally propels itself into the air with a fart. Like... seriously? Was that needed? Some of the "immature" jokes worked. Like one of the characters was like that, and when he'd say something that was fine because it was just his character/ But when real things like that were happening, it was just ridiculous and it felt so forced. It was written by David Wong, an editor at Cracked, so I don't know if he felt he had to include these things because of who he is, but... it just was distracting. I'd still recommend it, but not to everyone.
Yeah, I started on Maggie Cassidy last night and I've gotta say I'm having trouble getting into it. His narrative style is really confusing and he seems to hate commas. I can't keep track of what's going on. He words things so weirdly and he's calling everyone by multiple names even though it's the first freaking chapter so I don't even have one name down for each character yet. I'm gonna give this more of a chance and try to be open, but I wouldn't be surprised if I can't finish this. It cost me ten cents, though, so I won't be heart broken.

Finally edited my list post. >.o
I want to read The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo but I can't check anything out from our library until I get back from Missouri, because books get checked out for three weeks and I'll be gone for five, so if anyone requested a book I had (meaning I couldn't re-check it) then that would put me in a bit of a pickle. Sooo I have to con my way into my brother's good graces and get him to check some books out for me at the library at home. >.< I hope they'll have that book cause I've been wanting to read it....
