Here's to hoping that I manage to slay the challenge this year!
Book list / progress bar to come soon-ish / when I am fully awake and in the right state of mine for SAI and Photoshop.

I often hold off on reading series until all of the books are out. >_>

Yes, well it can be hard to do that when the series lasts a long time. I think this particular one is up to twelve? With #13 due out sometime in the next year, and no end in sight yet.

Just a heads up, I'm going through some tough stuff right now, and replying back has gotten away from me. I'm sorry. I'll be back shortly in a day or two.

@ Immy: It's fine, I've been pretty busy anyway.

@ Connie: I have one series that is 30 books long. I for sure didn't wait for that one, LOL! I do have a few others floating around though that I am waiting for the rest of the books to come out first.

I've got to ask: Have any of you folks read Gone Girl?

I avoided it for the longest time just because it was plastered all over and it seemed like an over-popular trendy novel (and I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to stuff like that ) but I finally picked it up this week and I'm really impressed! It's pieced together so well and actually creates complex, interesting characters that you want to keep learning about. I've been able to pretty much guess the plotline since I started, but it's still turning into a fun read.

I didn't read the book but I did go see the movie. I felt like my whole feeling throughout, and especially after the end, was WTF. Like really, WTF? I loved the turning point, I really had to appreciate the thought that went into that. Afterwards though, especially around that super gruesome scene I started feeling kind of weird about it. Like how psycho can one be? And how stupid can someone else be when faced with dealing with that psycho? The whole thing at the end just seemed unreal to me. There's no way in hell I would have made the same choice. Overall I did like it but I still just feel so wow about the whole thing. I feel like I should probably rewatch it and see if that changes how I feel about it.

I started reading Otherbound this morning. The premise is interesting but something about it just feels off. I'll keep reading and see if it gets any better though, my fiance said he really enjoyed it so hopefully it'll improve as I get further.

I just finished it last night and I kind of agree - The ending wasn't satisfying at all.

It's so disappointing because the first 75% of the story is so well crafted and natural, the pieces fit together amazingly well. But there comes a point near the end where everything falls apart and it feels so forced. I can think of a dozen different endings that I would have preferred instead! There were just so many other directions to go in. The real ending was just so grim, and not in a "Wow, this story is so dark and gritty" sort of way. It was grim more like "I pity these people and feel zero sympathy now."

Yeah, that's exactly how I would describe it as well. I know there were a few things that were a bit different in the end between the movie and the book but either way the ending was still eh.

Watching the movie is next on my list! We'll see how they compare.

I've never been a fan of Ben Affleck, but all the reasons I dislike him are reasons why he probably plays Nick perfectly. Kind of smarmy, privileged, probably gets away with a lot because of his good looks, etc. It's not really a compliment, but he was made for that role.

Edit: And oh my God, I just read the Imdb page and saw that Neil Patrick Harris plays Desi! That's...interesting.

Yeah, Neil Patrick Harris did a really good job in that role. He's such the nice guy but with that bit of creepy. Really well played.

My mom heard about a Japanese book on tidying and recommended it to me. It sounded cool, so I picked it up yesterday and started reading it. I liked it so much that I read the whole thing cover to cover last night. The main advice of the book is that you should only keep things that bring you joy (or that your really need, like your apartment lease). The author argues that by going through all your items one-by-one with this intention, you'll not only tidy your home but also your heart and mind, and this will magically transform your life.

the life-changing magic of tidying up by Marie Kondo

I now feel super pumped to tidy all the things. I'll keep you posted about whether or not it magically transforms my life.

Eh. The historical ones I can't get enough of. Anything else is blah. I'm so tired of hearing women screaming at people. I've got enough drama in my life without the added stress of angry voices upon waking.

Oops. Got a bit distracted by real life and forgot about Menewsha for a bit.
I did complete three books though! And started book blogging. I think that's a good motivator for me.

I'm about 2/3 through the Interstellar novelization now.

I haven't even continued my novel. Sad thing is all I want to do is sleep. But once my brother passes out, I'll pass out with him :P

I started a new French book. I spent several hours in the doctors office today and am about 1/3 of the way through it now.

It's those down times that really make reading great. When it's not raining here I like to read while I walk places. Which probably isn't the best idea actually...

I just finished Horns by Joe Hill. Wooo it was not what I expected. I enjoyed it though. Four stars out of five.

I have six books to choose from for my next read. I got them from a Grab & Go! bag at the library so they're not exactly what I would have picked for myself. If anyone would like to shove me towards one that would be great. I'm not very familiar with (non-fanfiction) romance novels (hence picking a Grab & Go! bag - nice plunge into he unknown).

Please Don't Tell by Elizabeth Adler
Yesterday's Lies by Lisa Jackson
Devil's Gambit by Lisa Jackson
Somewhere Beyond the Sea by Amanda James
The Girl with the Clock for a Heart by Peter Swanson
Dream Eyes by Jayne Ann Krentz
