If you like 1984, I'd recommend reading these too:

The Wanting Seed by Anthony Burgess
We by Yevgeny Zamyatin

...And I'm sure that I've read a ton more dystopian fiction, but I can't think of it right now...

-jumps on from schools computer-
Actually I'm on the boat with Aranel on never hearing about 1984. I didn't hear about it till you guys mentioned it on here (I've never read animal farm either XD ) and then I saw the book sitting on my Creative writing teachers desk (whose all into elezabethen/ victorian style books XD. Though he wasn't here today so I couldnt ask his opinion about it..((we didn't even have a teacher today so one of the kids acted in as a teacher who cursed a lot XDD)

But it seems interesting. : D

Kat: I hated Animal Farm. I don't know if it was the writing or the story or what...It probably would have been more interesting if I knew more about the Communism takeover. :\
Stormy: XD No teacher? Where'd he go?
I'd definitely recommend reading it. It's a classic and I thought it was really good.
Animal Farm is another one you should read if only for literary/scholarly merit. As I said above, I didn't like it, but it's one of the books that you just...should read (Like The Great Gatsby and Adentures of Huckelberry Finn).
Aranel: Yes, do :D
Knerd: Okay, I shall look for those ^^ Thank yous. *always loves recommendations*

I liked reading 1984. 8'3
Just took a little while to get through the beginning, but everything was pretty good after that. XD

I've yet to read Animal Farm, but at least I know of it, haha~

Yeah, he just wasn't there. XD Apparently it happened last year too, his sub thought they only taught English so they didn't show up for the creative writing class. But it was the best class I've ever had, couldn't stop laughing the whole entire time. XDD

I plan to read Animal farm when I get the chance so I can understand what my Adv. English 11 teacher keeps referring to in class. XD As soon as I get done with The Scarlet Letter I'll go check it out.

So many good book ideas I'm getting from here.
^^

I'm so glad my parents don't mind spending money on books.
xDD
Besides, we live too far away from libraries to go there often. The only time I ever get to go to the library is when I stay at my best friend's house, and even then it's hard because I'm not allowed to get a card at that library because I've got a card at a different one.
Yes, there are library rivalries going on.
It's quite funny actually.

Lol. Library rivalries. xD

You can get a card here if you live outside the city limits, but it costs you $30. o_o

Yep. Library rivalries.
They have contests all the time, trying to outdo each other. Since I'm a member to one and I visit the other; I enter both.
xDD

It's free to get a card no matter what here.
But if you lose it and want a new one you gotta pay two dollars.
That's how bad most of the younger generation are here, they have to make everything free and even then a majority of them refuse to read.
Pfft.
Don't know what they're missing out on.

When I was given a copy of Animal Farm to read I was like "Is this it?". I was just surprised by how short it was. I'm not sure why we read it at school at all to be honest, we only did one very short essay on it and it wasn't for the exam. Maybe that's why I liked it, because we didn't try and analyse it half to death.

I still get my library card for free because I'm in full time education but I don't know how much it costs when I have to pay for one. My library card works in all the libraries in my city, apart from the ones that still use paper tickets. Although the last thing I used it for was volumes of Lucifer comics.

You DIDN'T have to analyze Animal Farm? That's odd. o_O You were at least told what it was all a metaphor for, right?

Well, in my last couple of years at secondary school we hardly did anything if it wasn't necessary for GCSE. I meant we just spoke about Animal Farm as a whole in class and wrote a 1 page essay about the theme.

For something like To Kill A Mockingbird (which was for the exam) it felt like we were stopping after every single description or line of dialogue to pick it apart. -_-

TKAM was good. I really liked that book.
We didn't analyze Animal Farm either. We just read it and discussed the allegory. Then we watched the movie for laughs--thank God I was gone that day. XD

Oh we can.
But it costs an arm and a leg.
Not to mention it changes each time.
-.-

Something fishy's going on with the local libraries, I know it!

I haven't seen the movie. But I sort of want to. Captain Picard as a pig sounds like it would be made of lulz.

Aranel:: Oh yeah, ours changes each time too.
Mine will change this time, I think because its been so long since I've used it. (Massive fines. >.>)
And that really sucks because I know my card number by heart. O.o

Cherry:: I remember a long time ago my dad rented Animal Farm and wanted me to watch it. But I was like...8 and I was like "I WANNA SEE DISNEY."

Well, there were talking animals. It was SORT of like Disney. xD
I don't think an eight year old would understand it, anyway.

Lol. xD

I don't think so either, but then, my dad's always treated us like adults.
Unless we want to act like adults (i.e.- decision making and what have you) and then suddenly we're "children" again.

But regardless of if you were treated like an adult or not, you still may not have understood the movie. *shrug*

No I mean, when we were little, he treated us like adults, like we should understand things like adults and stuff.
He didn't ever really treat us like kids. :/

My dad's always treated me like a kid. It's annoying. x-X

XD I can't even go to my library. I have a 75$ fine there because a bunch of their books got lost when my house burned down a few years back.
