I apologize for anyt cursing I may do, but I'm extremely stressed right now.
I'm an honor student. I always have been. I'm used to having the highest grade in the class, to getting A's. I rarely get B's, and when I do, they're ALWAYS a 90 or 91 (a B is 93-91, an A is a 92-100). I've never, ever, gotten lower than an 89, and even that was in phys ed, with a teacher who disliked me, so it doesn't really count.
Right now I have an 85 in math. When my teacher told me that, I started crying (thankfully no one noticed, because another girl was having a total breakdown because she has a C-). My teacher said if I get perfect scores on everything, there's no way I can get 7 points in the 2 weeks left in the marking period. And with the way things are going, that won't happen.
The reason I'm doing so bad is my last few assinments. Out of the last 4, I have a 68, a 95, a 63, and a 75. Those papers are littered with stupid mistakes that anyone with half a brain should have noticed. I fully understand every concept we're going over in math. It's not hard, at all. I just keep doing these stupid things, writing the wrong number and making sign mistakes. And I don't see them when I check my work.
Something's fucking wrong with me. Not only do I make those stupid mistakes, I'm having a breakdown over getting a B. I've been crying for the last 15 minutes (when I got home). I'm going to be so dead when my report card comes in (my parents don't really care about my overall grade, as long as I try hard...but my mom knows I had a 91 a few days ago, and only getting a D or similar on a test could hurt me that badly).
Not to mention the fact that if my core math grade FOR THE YEAR isn't at least a 92, I'm definetly going to be stuck retaking Algebra I (I'm only an 8th grader right now). If I get a 100 the next to marking periods AND on the final, I'll have an A. But that's a big IF.
Help! I can't stop freaking out. And I have SO MUCH homework to do tonight, I can't afford to keep dong this.
How can I calm down? And how can I stop myself from fucking up my future assigments? Any way I can convince my teacher to give me like a humongous packet for even a little extra credit?

Just think about how you are getting wrong, my semester started yesterday and I didn't go today because I was sick, how do you think that affected my grades? missing the 2nd day of school. But don't worry about it it's just one grade amd you are doing a lot better than a really high percent of the nation. Last year on my State test it said I had a 94% on my math that means that ONLY 6% of the nation is smarter than me in the math that we did. Yet I got a 76 in my Geometry class.
But if you are really worried about it. go do your homework now get everything done and double-check it. Then go to the teacher tomorrow and ask if there is anyway you could get extra credit or something. I had a math teacher a few years ago that when I did bad on an assignment I could re-do it and get half point for everything I corrected.
Then my Geomertry teacher this year gave me a 68 on my final. I asked anyway to make it up. He said he'd give me 30 minutes with the book to correct EVERY problem. If 1 problem was wrong, automatic 0, but I fixed all of it and stated why/how I missed it, got a 87 on my Finals after that. But if you really think you know the material, you clearly are not because you are making simple mistakes, there's nothing wrong with a tutor, or not even a tutor just do it with a friend or someone and someone who can question, why do this? Like I had a problem -3 |-4+9 | I had it as -3-5 to make the awnser -2. My friend showed me what was wrong even though he's not good at math, he pointed to me || is absolute value, making the 4 a positive, so I got it right because of him. So anyone who can ask you why and make you think why it should be right will be able to work. If you can explain it to someone then it's right. If you can't explain it to someone, then it's most likely wrong.
Edit: I'm not on much but if you have any questions about math or any subject around it I can help you with it. I won't say the awnser because that doesn't teach you anything, I'll use paint and show you how it should be done (if you promise not to mock my hand writing please <3)

I stopped trying to so much when my teacher was marking off for not having straight lines on stupid things in my math class. None of it was showing graphing lines either. It was more like not straight lines for fractions or for divisonal equations. Infact I complained about it to her and she lowered my grade down to a -20. Yes, she was a jerk of a teacher and made me lose hope in the teaching system here in Texas.
I REALLY just gave up when they started making you show half a page of progress work, when I get it all done in my head very quickly. I don't like forcing my brain to work at a slower level just for the sake of a teacher to see that I'm not copying someone else's work or that I actually have it down perfect. Honestly a teacher should be able to tell who in his or her classroom is showing effort to learn...if not, the teacher doesn't have much heart in what she's doing in the first place.
You remind me of my girlfriend right now. She was breaking down over B's...which she never gets apparently. If you're smart you'll do ok in life, which is more important than any "busy-work". Keep a calm and cool leveled head. Seems more like your pride is hurt than your entire life, no offense.
I suggest doing some sort of hobby that you enjoy, like drawing or playing an instrument. It always cools me off.
Hope that helps.

Take a deep breath, relax, and tell yourself that a grade is only a number. Employers certainly don't look at your grades when considering you for a job; they only look at whether or not you can do the job. And you clearly know that you can do this! Just keep doing the best you can, which is clearly quite better than most of the people in the class. Your teacher and parents will be proud of you.

You've made it clear that you understand the terminology of your math course. How about you go to your teacher in private and express your concerns. Surely they know you excel in your other classes, so maybe they'd be willing to give you some extra credit?
It's worth a shot. Just anything to get your grade up to a 93. If absolutely nothing can be done about this grading period, try your hardest for the next. Grades seem very important to you, and it's good to have goals.
Getting a B isn't the end of the world, but that's not what you want to hear right now, and I understand that perfectly as I have similar tendencies. Check out what options, if any, are available to you so that you can get an extra point or two. Ambition goes a long way for some teachers, others not.
Do you think that could help?

Coming from an eighth grader also taking Algebra I,
...Get off the internet and do your homework if you're that upset about it. Proofread it like you would a piece of writing, and double check your answers.
If that doesn't help, ask for an extra credit assignment.
^^' Anyways, grades aren't all that important...
And, why would you have to re-take a class if you get a B Grade in it?
Your school system must be on crack. ^^

Ok, first of all, you're making it sound WAY worse than it actually is. I have that problem too. When my grades are low, I have breakdowns and get mad. The thing is, you can't really change anything in the past. Just try your best next time.
Also, go over your mistakes so you don't make them again. The only person who can fix things is you, if you try hard.

There's about 110 of us eighth graders taking algebra 1 as opposed to pre-algebra, and the highschool only wants like 50 or 60 of us in geometry next year. Even with an A, it's possible that you have to retake it.
It's insanely stupid, but I can't do anything about it.

Aww..Don't worry about it so much.. You can't be perfect.
I think you should perhaps find someone to help you with your homework, like go over it, and point out any mistakes..
You're probably just stressed out, there's nothing wrong with you.

honestly, it sounds like you need to go out and hang out with friends for the weekend/whatever. you're probably over thinking all your math problems & getting them wrong.

Let me respond to your story with one of my own...
Last semester, I was taking Anatomy and Physiology. The course work really wasn't that bad, just intense, but I couldn't get better than a 91 in the lab portion (our idiotic school goes by the 7-point grading scale, unlike everywhere else).
I've had ONE B in my entire college career. ONE.
When I tallied and projected my scores, there was no way for me to get an A without getting a 98 or better on the final.
Now, I have pretty mild asthma, most of the time, but when I found out about my B, I had a full-fledged attack. I couldn't breathe, panicked, didn't even think about my inhaler.
Because of a B. A SINGLE B. Which is STILL ABOVE AVERAGE. My tablemate was ECSTATIC because she managed to get a C.
I think the point I'm trying to make is...not everything has to be perfect. Yes, you and I both made dumb mistakes in our classwork, but EVERYONE does it, at one time or another. Don't beat yourself up about it! Just take your time with your work, try to slow down enough so that you don't skip over your mistakes.

Yuh. I had a 76 average once (a C) which I managed to hike up to about an 89 before the quarter ended, giving me a B+. I was pretty happy about that. >_<
But don't absolutely put yourself in a breakdown over it. Check your work. Take it home, and I don't give a shit if you add it 3 times just to make sure it's right, just..do it. I've had to do it before. I know I used to make a -lot- of stupid mistakes on my math like an addition screw up or a multiplication mess up. It really took a toll on my grade until I realized that checking your work over at least once really helps.
Try not to give yourself a hard time. It's not that big of a deal; a B is better than a C, D, or an F, of all Fucking things. xDD ( [email protected])
Just study. Make sure you've done everything right when you take an exam, don't be afraid to check it over once you're done, no matter how much time it takes.

Please stop fustrating yourself. You are only in 8th grade.
(Unless you are trying to apply to a Charter school or an upper-class high school, then you might have the pressure.) However, if you are going to a typical school, don't stress yourself. (not to drop the bomb) But life will just get harder. Just try to work a bit harder on studying. Don't stress over a B. I don't recall any major colleges who go all the way back to middle school grades to determine their choices. Just have fun while you have it.

I had a similar problem when I was in 8th grade. I did much more terribly in my class though. X__X And then I had to retake it in high school. But the high school course was far easier and explained better. And from then on I exceled in all of the math courses I took. So don't stress about it if you have to take it again. It's just another head step for you. : D

It sounds like maybe you could have a level of dislexia? its where you see words differently or numbers differently even if you know them. Generally what happens is that you could write a word backwards or write a different number as you're thinking of the number you actually want to write. So I think maybe if you can you could talk to a teacher if you feel that you like that teacher enough too because teachers will have resources that they could pass onto you so you could do some reasearch on it and then go and get tested from your doctor. Thats all I can come up with for this matter but I really do hope that your grades go back up again and that things settle down. I don't think you need to be that stressed over it because I think treatment is wearing a certain pair of glasses? and don't stress over that either because some glasses can look nice if you chose right.

Uhhh. I never cry if I get an 85. >_>;
I'm happy when I get anything above an F.
I sometimes don't know why people get so upset over a grade.
They really won't get you anywhere.
It's the effort that matters.

When you're thirty, it's true; grades don't matter. When you're young and trying to get through grade and high schools, they're very important.
If a student plans to go on to college after high school graduation, they won't get much for financial aid without a strong GPA (unless their family has a low income). I didn't get much of anything, and if I had even bothered to put forth my potential in high school, for all I know I could be having free education right now. :[
So yes, grades are important. They just don't make up who you are on the inside. Some people don't need or want college, and that's just fine too. I know as many people who have made an honest living that didn't go to college as opposed to those who did.

Awww. There's nothing wrong with you. Just different people have different paces you know? It's okay if you missed some. The point is that you realized you missed some, and you're trying. That's all that really counts you know? You're doing great, so don't degrade yourself. :3
There's nothing wrong with you as far as I can see.
