A while ago, I and my friend took a piece of lined A4 paper and divided it into 100 squares, and made a rudimentary snakes-and-ladders kind of a game... where you went forward and back because of good fortune (eating cake) or disaster (house burned down). We used a semi-cubical broken off piece of rubber (or an 'eraser' as you might call it), and gradually added many layers to the game. Many of those layers are to do with Harry Potter. XD

Happy Points - the person with the most happy points wins the game, even if they don't reach the end first. Points can be won for things such as finding a puppy (+30) or lost for stubbing your toe (-11). In the last ten squares of the game, you can be sold into slavery (-2000) or defeat Voldemort (+2000).
Houses - At the start of the game, you roll to see which house you're in.
1 = Gryffindor
2 = Slytherin
3 = Ravenclaw
4,5,6 = Hufflepuff
For whatever house you're in, there are two squares on the board applicable to members of that house, and them alone. There is a +50 and a -50 square for each house.
Ravenclaw = +50: Get 10 Outstanding O.W.Ls, -50: Get a detention
Gryffindor = +50: Win Quidditch cup, -50: Back down from a challenge
Slytherin = +50: Cackle evily, -50: Marry a mudblood
Hufflepuff = -50: Fall down a well, +50: Fall down a shallower well

Wands - Wands are purchased with happy points (HP) and are required for any spells later on, e.g PWNing Bellatrix or performing a successful charm.

Firebolts - Cost 50HP and allow you to double your next roll when you land on a ZOOOOM square.

Aaand I think that's about it. xDD
Believe me, it's the funnest thing I've ever played in my life. xD

Well that sounds interesting! C: Something I wouldn't mind playing.

The only homemade board game I've made was for a school project. The board basically was an outline of Idaho and yeah...it was boring. All you learned about was Idaho. CX

You can always change the names and stuff. Seriously though :O You can go on that show..I can't remember what it's called, but people bring their ideas and they decide if they want to buy it or not XD It's cute.

I'd rather keep my insanity to myself, and to the 20,000 or whatever users there are on Mene. x]
Although only 10,000 probably log on.

If you want to know the board's name, it's coincidently the Super Magic Happy Party Fun Game. xD

That was decided quickly and unaminously.

It was easy for us, but we'd built on it as we went along. x]

At first it was kind of frustrating. xD Because 'move forward' and 'move back' squares were so inconveniently placed that we quite often got into loops. Or, we had way too many minus HPs - the disasters are more fun to write - and it turned out the "You lose" square got very annoying after a while when games got drastically short in length. xD

For some reason, I always seem to adopt the most puppies. My record is 5. Whereas my friend shells out hundreds of HPs for firebolts, when only 1 is of any use. xD

Oh! I forgot the 'steal a firebolt' square. xD That's fun.

Base it on a popular children's book series. Narnia, perhaps?

I had to make one for a project in eighth grade. It was like a combination of Sorry! and Trivial Pursuit. With Egyptians, and the game pieces looked like different-coloured Kirbies. :XD

That sounds fun. I'd play it.

When I was younger I made a monopoly game that was based on my pets. I've had enough pets that I could fill the entire board with their names. Then I made up little chance and community chest cards about pet related things too.

I would so play that. Now that I think of it, I miss playing board games. I haven't in years.
