I am actually not a fan of largely gauged ears. The next step up from “normal” size I think is okay, but not much bigger than that. One of my friends has gauged ears and when he took out his earrings (do you still call them that even if they go into the ear lobe?) to change them it looked kind of disgusting… just a big hole in this ear. I think he’s slowly tiring to gauge them more. >.< On the flip side, I have another friend that has slightly gauged ears and she says she loves how she doesn’t have to buy posts anymore that stick into her neck. I would have to agree with this point. I have two piercing in my ears and they either prick my neck, or the posts bend. : S
If I did gauge my ears, it would only be up to like a 14 or something like that. Just enough so I could wear something other than posts. And I would probably gauge both my holes in each ear. I’m also not a fan of just having one ear done, or one done larger than the other. It just looks odd.
I do think you can get too big as far as wearing the hoop type earrings. A guy at the place I used to work (who was a manager funny enough) had three holes in each ears that were gauged. He would wear these three heavy bent barbell-looking earrings, and they actually made his earlobes and such droop. 0.o To me that just isn’t nice to look at.
Other piercings I would like to have are industrials in both my ears, and my lip pierced on either side. And maybe a nose ring…. I would like to have my tongue pierced, but I would be afraid something would go wrong and I would have this huge scar in my tongue that I could feel and everything. Ew. >.<
As far as tattoos go…. I’d never get a real one. I’m a pansy when it comes to pain and I hate needles (which is one of the reasons why I don’t have more piercings). Now I love henna tattoos; they’re just awesome. Or even airbrushed ones. I also like the fact that they aren’t permanent. I don’t want saggy skin tattoos when I’m older… they look disgusting. : /
On a side note... I never realized gauging your ears hurt. =0 I guess it just depends on how fast you're gauging them? *shrugs*

It depends on the culture in which it's happening.
See, in parts of Africa it happens quite a bit, to the point of being stare-worthy, but in European countries, where it only happens rarely, it depends how much you do it.
I suppose... I don't really like it. It's mutilating your body, the same as tattooing and mass piercings. It's pretty much irreversible.
So I don't really like the idea of it.

Personally, I think they can look rather nifty if done right (and not overdone), but then most things--especially where body modification is concerned--are best in moderation. If you're willing to put forth the time and effort to maintain healthy ears with huge holes in them, then more power to you. That kind of dedication to something you like and your appearance isn't really a bad thing. It sounds as though you've got legitimate reasons (wanting cooler jewelry is a good reason) that aren't off the deep end. I've had people try to convince me that they did it to make a social statement. That's just ridiculous when you consider that the practice has become rather mainstream, as you mentioned.
I think that most people who are against it either find it gross (which I can understand, especially when it comes to people with huuuuuuge holes) or are just against body modification in general. To me, it seems like it's only gross when the smell's around and you have to be near the person, and it's really your body to do with what you will. I have a set of tattoos (small wings on my back, see signature), so obviously I'm not against body mods. XD
Also, more power to you for being able to stand the pain of gauging. ^.^

I think gauging looks okay on certain people, but it's sorta weird when it gets too huge. ...I've always wanted to stick my finger through when I see people with the super huge ones. xD
I'm slightly tempted to gauge my ears--not a lot--just a little. The earrings you can put in are just so cool. ...but I hear it's painful, so I don't think it's going to be happening. xD
As for other piercings, I've got five--two on both my lobes and one in my cartilage. I really want one of those piercings that go on that little section of your ear right next to your face. *_*
Oh yes, and tattoos~ My back is currently covered in henna wings. ^_______________^ It's pretty cool. I love it but don't have to keep it forever. Also, if I ever get tired of this design, I can change it when it goes away. It's so cool~.
...though I wouldn't mind a real tattoo either. >_>

What do you think about gauged ears?
i'm personally not a fan of the large ones that you can stick your finger though... that's just plain gross in my opinion. Obviously i'm not a fan of the smell and i'm not a big fan of the ones that are BIG enough to smell. .__.;;
yours don't look that noticeable though. but when you mentioned the smell thing it didn't make me a fan. though i think it depends on the person what gauge you have to be at in order for it to smell. o-o Some people are just more sensitive than others.
Would you gauge your's?
no. Not a fan of pain nor a fan of smelling. Also, my regular earrings they sometimes get infected anyway because my skin is sensitive to metals. I can only wear 14k gold or 24k gold. Gold plated works too, but they sometimes get infected so I have to clean them more frequently. Depending on what my body feels like sometimes it can stand stainless steel for around a day, but other times, it starts to itch after a couple of hours. >__<;
Tell me your gauging story!
I don't have one to tellll. .__.!
Other piercings?! Tattoos, perhaps?
I have two piercings in each ear. I want maybe another one in each ear but we'll see. xD My parents flipped when I got the second piercings. LOL.

I think it's disgusting. What happens if you decide you don't want it anymore? Will it go back to normal or does it stay stretched out for the rest of your life?

Well...I wouldn't do it to MY ears....but my friend Alec and my friend Josh had really big holes...I think they were both 0. My dad said they looked like the holes in tarps with rings. XD
Anyway..Alec could stick his pinkie through....maybe Josh was bigger than zero cause...he had big fingers n he could stick his pointer through...one time he put a padlock through it. XD
I don't really mind them, and on some people they look good, depending on the rest of they're style.
I just have normal ear piercing though, and I'm planning on piercing my bellie. I also like tattoos...but I dunno if I'm ready for one. It has to be good cause I don't want to regret it when I'm old.

Most of my friends have had stretchers in at some point n the last few months and tried to get me to join in. Which I haven't and I won't be doing not after seeing my friend go to an 8mm then destretch it and end up with quite a big hole still left in her ear although you can only tell when she isn't wearing earrings. I'm glad she didn't decide to go past 16mm which is when you can destretch it to a point but you're still left with quite a big hole. Some people it suits some people it doesn't, some people the stretchers that look like a big tooth suits and some the ring...sleeper...stud...thing suits better.

@Caroline: Their really no trouble to take care of. It's just painful when their in the process of getting them bigger is still in effect >< I did one at a time, so I could actualy sleep normaly on one side. @[email protected]
I actually think lip piercing are a even more painful then gauging, I have my center lip pierced, though I think I reacted a little strangely when it was healing.
The piercing itself didn’t hurt very much, but oh how it hurt when it was healing.
For a couple weeks I wasn’t able to eat normally, I had to cut up all my food, and drink from a straw x3. I was literally walking around with a straw with me.
This was all probably because it was in the center, though. I couldn’t even kiss my boyfriend D:
My lip was swollen to twice it’s size almost, but once I started using rock salt in warm water, it quickly went down. Eventually the swelling, pain, and chapping went away, thank goodness, I was getting worried.
Did you get both of your lip piercing at the same time, or did you wait a time in between?
I just don’t see how people can get snake bites at the same time, ouchie ><

If you eventually get tired of them and you take your earrings out and that, and you want to go to a smaller size will you still have a gaping hole in your ear lobe?

I'm stretching my ears this year <3
I find it extremely attractive.
I'm attracted to nearly any guy with plugs.
My boyfriend won't do it though cause he doesn't like needles and he doesn't prefer them for his style.
For girls, IMO, it can look very elegant but I honestly don't find it as appealing when it reaches more than 1 inch but still appealing.

So THAT'S what they're called...I usually just describe people with them as the 'guys with holes in their ears'. XD;;; But ick, I don't like them...they look painful and pretty gross...I've never noticed a smell, but then again, I've never gotten close to anybody who has them, so.
I prefer my teeny little piercings, thank ye. XDD

I'm not a fan of gauged ears, but a lot of people are. Personally it seems like a good way to get hurt in a fight.
Plus I don't find them all that attractive. But that is just my opinion.

And gaugings, piercings, tattoos are instant turn offs for me. I would never have any more than I have now (just my ears pierced. NOT GAUGED. >_>) because it's simply gross to me. Anyone that would want to do that to themselves (this going for tattoos, piercings, gaugings, anything of that nature, no offense meant->), I'm sorry to say, seems like they're following a fad. x_x
I could see one or two people doing that to be unique. But shit like that turns into a fad and it gets so old and grosser. x_x

@Wynna: What i've heard is, if you go past a size 0 gauge you wont be able to go back to normal, but if you have a 0 or lower, after a short time it'll go right back to normal. :3
@April Fool Romance: I agree! I definitely think they can look very elegant, exotic even.
How big are you planning to go?
My boyfriend has one of the two piercings on one ears a little stretched, i believe it's at an 8, it's nothing really but it's still nice looking.

I like the small ones. They look, for lack of a better word, cute. The bigger ones aren't something I would do to myself, but hey, it's not my ear.
Same thing with tatoos, really. I wouldn't get one, most likely, but I think they can look pretty.

Not quite sure. The largest I'd go is 00g but I highly doubt I'd get there. Maybe a 4g. I just gotta see but I have plenty of time to think about when I want to stop :b

I personally think when guys have their ears gauged its totally hot. Not when they have it like, so super gauged you can put a potato in their ear. But just like... the size of a dime... or so. Lol. I think it looks so cool. (on girls and guys) Haha, but I'd never gauge my ears. It wouldn't suit me I don't think, plus the thought of just.. stretching.. my ears... makes me sad. Lol.

You saying about being able to put a potato in their ear made me rember about someone I know telling us about their dad's friend who cut off the end of a pool cue to use as a stretcher.
April Fool Romance it's best not to go to a 16mm or bigger because then when you destretch your ear/s it doesn't go back to the orignial sized. My friend only went up to an 8mm or 10mm, I think it was probibly 8mm because she started at a 4mm, she's destretched it and it's gone like a slit but that was just went an left it out. So it's best to not go past 16 and work your way back down when you destretch it.
