Um... you realize that Inuits tend to have darker skin right? And they're not native-Americans, so they don't need to have that look :/ Look up Inuits and Eskimos and see what they look like for yourself (you should also note that there are so many different bands of them and they don't all look alike, just like in the case of Native Americans or any other regional group)

IMDB has the cast list for the movie. It looks like a very interesting cast. The teaser trailer looks good too.

I am kind of worried that the Avatar Live action movie would not be good and end up as another bad live action movie. I just watch the trailer and so far it looks okay but I am afraid the biggest problem there going to have is making the cast looks like the avatar characters. I might see this in a movie thearter but can't say for sure. :vicky:

Here is a link to the trailer.

I personally hate M. Night Shamalama. So I hope he doesn't butcher the movies. I'm really excited for it! But then again, I was excited for Twilight too and that really blowed. Ruined it all for me and now I hate it.

The trailer for The Last Airbender though looks really awesome! My boyfriend is learning the bo staff form that he does, and then I'm guna learn it! I hope Shamalama doesn't ruin it!

i really enjoyed the animated series, but my first reaction to the live action movie was pure elation...
i get why people are upset about the actors who are portraying our favorite characters, but i think the best way to watch a movie based on something so fabulous as the series is to go in not really thinking about the series at all...
this movie will just be the directors and the screenwriters interpretation of the story... i'm sure they want to make people like it just as much as the series, but i think it's about taking it for what it is without comparisons, although it's so hard not to compare...
i don't know... a friend told me to look at the twilight movie that way after i was so very disappointed and then upon watching it again, i thought it wasn't so bad... still don't think it was as good as the series... but on it's own, it was decent...

I have no clue who M. Night is, but since you all seem to like him, he'll probably do a good job on the film.

I really, really loved Avatar: The Last Airbender. Both me and my friend Amy used to watch it together when I slept over her house. That show inspired my art and it made me laugh and cry at the best times. Toph was one of my favorites. And, even though she is blind, she still kicks alot of butt.

I never really particularly liked M. Night Shamalan (or however you spell it). He made some freaky films that didn't catch my eye in the least. Though I did watch that one movie: Lady in the Water. My friend had me watch it. It wasn't too bad I guess....though the movie should have been a little more longer with a lot more drama.....anywho.

I hope he doesn't butcher this movie. Every time I watch a great cartoon on tv, Hollywood or some dumb fracking director has to come in, take it from it's original spot when it's so awesome, and then turn it into some cruddy movie with sucky actors and a plot that doesn't even come close to the show at all. But, knowing him and the other people who are working on this film, they are going to make it either really, really cruddy or somehow turn it into a fanbase for stupid airheads to scream about it and become uber obsessed over it.

What's next? A "TEAM AANG" t-shirt and bookbag and lunchbox like all the stupid Twilight stuff? God I hope not. I will honestly hit someone if that happens.

Ya, I don't think they're going to do very well with it either. Which is really sad because Avatar is one of the very rare cartoons these days that is/was amazingly well done.

I thought the trailer I saw for the movie was amazing, I loved how Aang's tattoo wasn't just solid blue, it had an awesome tribal design all through it. I wish we could have seen some of the other characters.

But what really gets me is I just saw a trailer for the movie that is stealing the name "Avatar" from the Aang... and I am filled with raeg!

They really aren't stealing the name per-say. The word avatar, in a summation, is basically reincarnation. Aang is woken again and in a sense reincarnated. And in the movie Avater the man's mind is transfered into the other human-like being and thus reincarnated.
I think both movies look really good and will not fall short in pleasing people.

they're not stealing it :( Avatar is a term that became popular because of The Last Airbender. But the term has been around for centuries (if not millenniums). I also think the movie Avatar looks way better than The Last Airbender.

You have to keep in mind too that movies (especially ones with heavy animation in them as the movie Avatar is) take years to make. Avatar probably took a good 3 years to make. The Last Airbender was getting popular at that point. The term Avatar for the title of that film comes from the fact that the main character becomes one of the new races's kin and turns on his own people to help these new people, which is, in part, what an Avatar does.

So getting angry over a term that's been around for ages is rather... childish at best.

I will go and see it..

Mainly because I love Avatar.

But..there are two outcomes...it can fail to the curse of M. Night Shyamalan meaning that it will suck...you know what.

Granted, his first movies where awesome..but the last ones had to many dealings with water, and stupid plots...*cough* the happening *cough*

We shall see..

Oh, I know exactly what the term "avatar" means. I mean... besides the original usage of the term being the form a god uses while on earth, I've been a member of an avatar site since well before the series was made. I just... the preview looks like that movie will be a dud and it's a little sad that Avatar: TLA can't use it in the title even with "TLA" added on, which I think is pretty ridiculous.

The only thing that worries me about this movie is the casting. I think the director could have done a better job. I was surfing the web and also found another person who was unhappy with the casting and this person made the utube video about people who should of been cast for this movie. If your curious watch the clip.

The movie (much like many other cartoon/anime or comic to movie transitions) leaves me with the same sense of worry that a story that I love so very much is about to be destroyed (again). The casting is definitely off (but what casting isn't in the same circumstances elsewhere). Short of the 6th sense, I REALLY do not enjoy M. Night Shyamalan movies. I haven't really seen a premise listed anywhere (though I doubt it matters) so I can't really comment on story yet.......and you have my rants.

On the positive side, the teaser trailer looked a bit enticing. Aangs marking in tribal form are pretty sweet looking and the subsequent fire nation attack on the temple he is in would suggest they have possibly gone in a decent direction. O_o

Either way, I'll wind up seeing it (much like I did Dragon Ball /wrists) and pass further judgement then.

Actually I'm rather excited about it. It's directed by a guy who's made many Award winning movies. The animation, lighting, texturing (all the CG) looks epic and the story looks spot on. But that's just me.

Avatar: TLA worries me terribly. I probably won't see it in theaters. I didn't think much of the trailer, it look bland. The only thing I liked about it was the fire nation ships. Dunno why, I just liked them.

And usually I don't say Avatar: TLA, but because we were talking about two Avatar movies I was differentiating. And really, through out the history of films, there have been film titles that sound or are virtually the same. IE: Little Nemo in Slumberland and Finding Nemo

I think the previous poster was talking about Cameron's use of the word Avatar.
Did you notice that the TLA trailer completely avoids saying the word "Avatar". I really hope that doesn't carry into the movie.

Because walking around calling Aang "The One" The Chosen" or "Chosen one" is really gonna hurt.

Ouch, it would! :P

But I don't see that happen. Cameron didn't forbid anybody the use of the name "Titanic", did he? Not that I think anybody would think they could trademark a general term like those, anyway.

(Talking about "term" - isn't there quite a lot of movies out there that excesively use "Terminator", too? ;))

As to the timing of both movies: The script for Cameron's Avatar is 14 years old - the only reason it took so long to do was that he was waiting for an advanced enough movie technology to bring his vision onto the big screen.

(Yes, I'm a itsy bitsy tiny little bit fanatic about this movie. I think I've read every single bit of information that was released about it. :D)

By the by, has anybody got a link to the Last Airbender teaser? Never heard about them making a movie out of it, and I'm rather curious about it - even though I'm prepared for it to only be a bland echo of the greatness of the series!

@ Nalah - I hadn't realized it had been floating around for that long. That's really interesting. Makes it sounds like it's going to be extra good because they've had a lot of time to mull over the story.

This is the Avatar TLA teaser trailer:

I dunno, Aang's martial arts looked... choppy in areas. I'm not a master at it, I've only done it for like four years, but the movements still looked off in areas to me.

@Erailea: I really think it will be one incredible movie. The story sounds fascinating and most of the screenshots look like they came right out of a high quality fantasy artbook (hovering islands, anyone?). And according to some of the interviews Cameron has his very own "Pandorapedia" with background information so extensive that it would take a couple of movies to at least mention everything. <3

But I don't want to hijack the thread!

Thanks for the video. It doesn't look all that bad, if this kind of quality continues throughout the movie it might be pretty good, at least from a technical point of view. Well, and with Shyamalan there's hope this won't just turn into a moronic action fest. I quite like his kind of storytelling, so... hey, I think I'm pretty optimistic right now. :D

The martial arts look really good to me (but then again my last lesson has been like... 15 years ago :D), for me it's just the video itself that runs a bit choppy.
