I'm curious, but my first word was "No-no" because it was what my parents kept saying. It wasn't "mama" or "papa".. o.O'

How many people actually DID say "mama" or "daddy" as their first words? And if that's not what you said, what did you say?

I said mom as my first word...pretty boring. I always wonder whether that's really what I said though or if that's just what she likes to think.

One of my old friend's first words were "uh oh". I thought that was cute. And another friend's first word was cookie

My parents never told my my first word, but I didn't start talking until preschool. I had to go through a lot of speech threapy. They remembered my first song. "Kidnap Mr. SandyClaws." from The Nightmare Before Christmas.

It scared the CRAP out of them.

I think my first word was

Da-da, but my parents tell me I also said "Back-ho" Like the machinery though. I live near a construction storage site. When I was a wee babe they used to show me all the machines and show off to me.

I didn't really have a first word....

I shut up for two years, and then suddenly out of the blue, I spoke almost perfect XD

Strange kid I was *nods*

My sister had a lot of strange words when she was little tho... She had a dictionary with translations to make the adults in her kindergarten understand what she said O_O It's quite long, and much fun to read now she's fourteen....

^^

Hey my big brother did that too! The silent until he was two thing... But he did that because my big sisters always talked for him... But when they both went into school he had to learn to talk for himself.

My parents joke that my first and favorite word was 'why' but I don't know if it's true or not.

Jaded Geisha: My little brother was the same. Me and my older brother would just interpret for him so he didn't bother learning to talk. Finally my parents had to tell us to stop interpreting so that he would have to talk if he wanted something.

xD;
I really don't know. o-O;; I wish I did, though.. probably 'mama' or dada' for daddy. :D OR, maybe some Chinese word, since my parents don't know a lot of English.. even if I ask them what my first word was, they probably forgot already. D:

Hmm, I don't know what my first word was. I should ask my mom.

I remember the first time I noticed that I was illiterate though. (Not that I knew that word then.) There's this poster my mom made of a Chairman Mao quote that was above the mantle, and I remember looking at it once when I was 3 or 4, and knowing that it said something, but not being able to figure it out. It really frustrated me. Thus I am very much a reader now. The idea of being illiterate is scary to me.

I think I remember my mom saying my first word was milk. It is a pretty odd to have that as your first word, but oh well xD
That sort of makes sense since she told me that as a baby I loved to drink milk.

Well, my mom couldn't remember which came first, but my first two words were kitty and...shit. Yup. Mom was paying bills at the table and I was behind her in my playpen...she muttered "shit!", and from behind her came a little voice..."Shih! Shih!!" I couldn't pronounce the 't' yet (even 'kitty' was just me pointing at the cat and shouting "kih-eee!"). But that's when she realized she was going to have to start watching her language. *lol*

I think my first word was "lawnmower" pronounced more like "lawnlower" though. I'd say that is a pretty weird first word but I think it is pretty funny.

No one ever told me what my first word was, but I'd be kind of embarrassed to ask. I'm mean, gawd, so babyish? XD

I know my 2 year old sister's first word was, I think I know what it is anyways, 'dada' that's not even a word.

She says no a lot now though. UGH.

... Well, I don't know if this officially counts as a word. But to me it was "Duh." And that was my attempt at dog, except for quite some time I was convinced that every animal was a dog. So (acording to my mom) I would point at a duck and declare: "Duh."
