It is a little stange at first, but I think it's great! It's made with chickpeas (garbanzo beans) and tahini, which is a sesame seed paste. Most stores will carry a few different flavors, like regular, garlic, red pepper, etc. I love the garlic hummus the best! It's kind of...tangy? It's hard to describe. *lol* It's not too overpowering on veggies, but it does have a slightly vinegary taste. And it has a nice creamy texture. It's also good with crackers or flatbread, or spread on sandwiches instead of mayo!

@ MidnightRun: I'm not 100% sure, it's an Australian book, so if you have no luck in a book store, you could try EBay etc. I'll just grab it and give you the details...
From what i can gather they've put out several issues of the book, the first one was $155 a week, and this one is revised version for $55 a week, so there may be a slightly newer version than the one I have! It's by Peter and Cynthia Mayne and is called "Here's an extra $100 A week. Feed your family for $55 a week"
Hope you can find it, the books amazing, and although as I said the prices are now inflated somewhat, the menu plan is for breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and desert, and also drinks for the meals. It's well worth a read!

I've been exercising every day for a week now. ^^
But it doesn't seem to be having an effect yet. That's probably because I haven't changed my diet much. x.x
Anybody have meal/snack suggestions?
I think planning what I eat would be a good idea.

Planning is really helpful - I like to have enough meal ingredients on hand for a week's worth of meals. Then I'm not tempted to run down to the store (or a fast food place!) when I'm hungry and pick up something that's bad for me!
For snacking, I like to keep cut up veggies in containers in the fridge. Then I can just grab and go. Nuts are also good and filling, and dried fruit is good if you have a sweet tooth! And I bought a microwave popcorn popper. Just put in the plain popcorn kernels, and it doesn't even need oil! Popcorn is a good source of fiber, and it's good for you when it isn't loaded with butter and oil!
You should check your grocery store to see if they have Barilla Plus pasta. That's what I've been eating a lot of lately, too. It's whole wheat pasta with added protein from legumes, plus omega-3 essential fatty acids - and it tastes good, too! I just cook the pasta, heat up a jar of organic marinara sauce (I make sure not to get sauce with added sugar or corn syrup), and steam some veggies - usually broccoli, mushrooms, and zucchini. Then it's pasta, then veggies, then sauce in bowl! Quick and simple, and very filling!
Veggie and bean soups are easy, too - just some premade veggie or chicken broth, toss in some vegetables and a can of what ever beans you like and a dash of your favorite herbs. You can make a big batch and have leftovers for lunches, too.
You know, with all this advice I'm handing out, you'd think I was super healthy! *lol* My problem is I read and plan a lot, so I know excactly what's healthy and what I need to do...I'm just not very good at sticking to it for any length of time. My burger and sweet tooth always get the better of me. >.< But I'm already feeling more motivated by sharing all these tips with you guys! I was totally craving a burger and valentine candy today, but instead I ate good foods and I'm feeling much better! ^_^

Well I think losing weight is not as important as trying to stay HEALTHY.
To be healthy means to look after what you put into your mouth and ponder the nutrients contained inside the food you chew and swallow.
I, apparently study nutrition at school. Not that I am bragging about it or something
Anyway, according to my teacher who believes in FIT and FAT, carbohydrate is an important macro-nutrient for brain.
Fat, also counts as a macro-nutrient is as important as protein is.
I think the best diet to stay healthy is to eat a variety of food everyday.
Do not starve yourself!
If you do eat do not make yourself bloating!
Eat until you are a half full and drink plenty of fluid.
I do this myself you know and I am very happy that I lost 3 kg!
Hehehe although it took me a long time to achieve it, I am still proud of myself

Whoa. This thread fits me so much! <3
Well, I am weighing 140 pounds, which is not normal for my height, which is 5'1. XD I've been overweight since I was small, and I am already used to being teased about being a fat kid.
I want to lose weight and be healthy so that I won't experience the consequences when I grow old. Also, I want to lose weight so that I can wear the clothes that I want to wear.
My goal is to lose at least 25 pounds in the period of four months. I started last week of January. Although I don't exercise everyday, I still make a point that I should walk at least 10 minutes everyday. Also, I am reducing the amount of food that I eat.
I am hoping that I would reach that goal. I hope too, that the members of this thread reach their goals. <3

Well, I've recently picked up this Weight Watchers magazine, which has great recipe ideas.
The past few days I've been on the treadmill on all but one, when I went for a walk and a picnic. ^^
(Don't take meat to a picnic in a park full of dogs >.>)
I do 20-30mins on the treadmill, about 50% running and 50% fast walking. Then I do a few crunches and "The Plank". xD
You lie on your tummy, and raise yourself on your toes and your lower arms, like so:
http://swymgym.co.uk/resources/_wsb_...rcises+001.jpg
It hurts like hell. xD But it's sooo good for toning. You try and hold it for 30seconds-1min, then rest, then repeat twice. Combining the 'plank' with crunches is apparently the best way to tone tummies.
My eating isn't going so well yet. Haven't been focusing on it much - but I'm going to start eating better on saturday. I will plan healthy meals, and snack on fruit if I need to. I will also allow myself one "treat". ;D
I'm currently 10st (140 pounds) and 5'6, and I want to get to 9st. (120 pounds)

- Oh wow I gorged this evening xD
I burned 310 calories on the treadmill, but had "picnicy tea" for dinner. My family has it some fridays - it consists of plates snacky food to pick from... mostly unhealthy. x]
Gah, maybe I should have not let that exercise come to waste. x.x

I wasn't terribly healthy today, either. I had a really bad afternoon that involved quite a bit of crying (things are better now - I've just been stressed and I think I just needed that good cry), which led to me eating chocolate as a pick me up. I'm such an emotional eater! I really need to find other ways to comfort myself. I think maybe I'll try meditation again - there's no calories in that! ^_^

Seasame paste! That kind of food is less foreign to me, so I think I'll try it out. :] The Henry's market that I live nearby would probably have it, it's loaded with all this health food. o:
And lol yeah! I thought you were a food advisor person for a living! XDD It feels good when you do good things. X] Well, while you're exercising, probably not, but right after! XD Whew!
I heard that popcorn with no oil was only 50 calories a serving? [Serving = 1cup?] I saw this one news thingy about an anorexic woman. @[email protected]; She would only eat popcorn and ran a few miles everyday.
Well, one thing I know I won't become when I grow up; anorexic! XD
I feel alot better after a good cry too! :] But usually, I cry for too long and it gives me a headache. >.>; Then I want to sleep. XD I think that sometimes, I've been an emotional eater, but I've never used chocolate. XD I think it says that chocolate makes you feel loved, but all I feel is wierd stickyness in my mouth. XDDD
Meditation is hard for me. o.o Can't sit still for one minute. XD
t_4eva
My mom usually spends $100 or more a week on food for our family of three, so I really hope I can find it! Must make a to do list. >w<
Remaja
Ack. XP I usually eat until I'm pretty full. @[email protected]; I love the taste of food. XD~ [Well, if I didn't, that would be bad XD]

Lol, when I read 'st' I thought you were trying to say the numbers cardinally. o.o Like 1st, 2nd, 3rd; so when I saw 10st and 9st, I was like, "wahhh?" XD
St means stones right? O: And wow, how fast/long did you walk/run/w/e? xD When I go on the treadmill, it always tells me 200~300 calories per hour, but that's at a speed I can't keep up for an hour. >w<
Unless I walked so slow for 3hours at 100 calories per hour.... XDD

@ Midnight - yeah, I meant stones. :]

Oh noes. I can't breathe properly and deeply when I tried my prom dress. D: I should start to use the treadmill again so that I would lose a few fats in my stomach.
Any tips? My prom is on the 23rd, and I think I can do it.

In my own experience, you must set out a goal first. As for me, my goal is to lose 20 pounds in 4 months. That's what keeps me determined and motivated. Also, my mom and my friend is supporting me for what I am doing. So yeah, there goes my experience. XDD

Oh gawd x.x
I was great with exercising yesterday, and eating too, until the evening when I had a takeaway chicken tikka masala, which apparently has over 800 calories. D:
I also had a packet of crisps, a blueberry muffin, and a glass of coke and a glass of lemonade.
I would've had jelly babies too if my dad hadn't finished them. ; - ;

Oh my gosh I am an emotional eater myself! And lately I've been super emotional. Depression makes me overeat as well as sapping my energy. It's a frightening combo. I have been feeling better lately though.
I've been trying to do 15-20 minutes on the elliptical as well as stomach crunches, plus I have my dance class. I need to snack healthier though. ><
