Oh god. I just injured myself for laughing. Don't you just LOVE it when people try to attack you on the internet...and only prove themselves to be just as stupid/disrespectful/creepily fanatical as ANOTHER person you were talking about?
*ahem* So here's the deal. I am...very much anti-slash. I HATE fan-made crack pairings...unless, of course, they're a JOKE (and a good one). I hate the way people defend it like it's their religion. However, with fictional characters...I hate the sin, not the sinner. Some of my good friends are fictional slash fans. No big deal.
However, I happen to run across people who do this to REAL PEOPLE quite frequently. And recently, I just found a massive site filled with the most god-awful real-person homosexual lemon fanfics I've ever had the misfortune to stumble across. And no, I was NOT looking for it - I just happen to be a huge fan of a FEW people who get that quite often. >.<; And I can't speak for all of them, but I know for a fact that at least one of the people portrayed in this pile of garbage I found is straight.
Is it just me, or does the act of slashing REAL people, with REAL thoughts and feelings, come off as extremely disrespectful? Honestly, if someone wrote about me having sex with a friend of mine just because they thought it would be "hot," regardless of my friend's gender, I would have a hell of a time reminding myself that it would be illegal to kill them. And I believe quite strongly in respecting those who respect themselves and others...though I'm not ashamed to show blatant disrespect to the blatantly disrespectful.
And so, after I stumbled across this site, I made one of those little stamp things on dA. I was...very, very angry. That was just...sick and wrong. >.<; The stamp said, in no uncertain nor rude terms, "I DO NOT support real-person slash. And I never will." I typed up a little rant with my opinion on the matter in the artist's comments, stressing the whole respect point quite clearly.
Just today, I returned from lunch...and found that some IDIOT had made what was quite possibly the lamest attempt at a witty retort that I had ever seen.
Verbatim. I'm surprised that first H was there in the first place, as lame as the attack was.
I literally fell out of my chair for laughter. I actually hit my head on the sofa; I was laughing THAT DAMN HARD. Not ONLY did this person prove him/herself to be the "dumbass" by typing at me like a two-year old, thinking it's cute, but completely drove my whole respect point home. So I'm a "dumbass" for not sharing his/her opinion. Yeah, what a respectful way to look at things. XD
Now of course...things like this have happened to me many, MANY times. I pretty much live on the internet, so...yeah. ^^; And thinking of this, and just HOW OFTEN it happens, both online and in real life...it inspired me to make this topic. Do you have any funny stories about people trying to argue with you...but only managing to prove you right? Or on a related note, perhaps you know someone who is such a PERFECT embodiment of almost all stereotypes about a certain something they are, to the extent that it just drives you insane? Share your stories here.

Sometimes a good argument
online can be enthralling to me.
But that kind of well blatant
wording is sad... If your going
to insult someone's intelligence
why do they go right to dumbass?
I could find much better suited
words. hehe And yes, I have had
that happen a million times over.
Immaturity at it's finest dear. :3

I seriously busted up when someone told me to kill myself, since I was a dumbass spic ho *insert more racist terms*. I don't have the story up that they reviewed anymore, so I can't find it in exact words. It was just such a lame attack that it didn't bother me at all.
Seems like real people slash fiction should be illegal. I mean, seriously. I know we don't have copyrights on ourselves, but isn't it like libel? Writing stories about your neighbor screwing the mailman or something?

That's happened to me. It ticked me off because I didn't want to get into fights..
In fact it's happened to me more than once.. mainly me and one of my friends on another site fight a lot, because she tends to drag things on and on..and it's about simple things too.. we rp..so weird disagreements occur. *shrugs*
I tend to drop things then avoid whoever it is who's trying to start the fights all the time so... I try to stay away from it if I feel the need to *nods*

I hate slash pairings in general. All those fangirls who are so obsessed with their jrock pairings just because they mess around on stage annoy me to no end...
A lot of people like to argue with me on this one forum. You can't even say one thing without people tearing apart every word. Hardly anyone on that site understands sarcasm. And then they never drop it, they just keep on going and being immature. The only reason I sometimes go there is because my bf is a mod there.

Oh, wow. That was quite the stupid thing to say. XD
I don't understand how people can flame like that. Doesn't quite prove your point or anything like that, but whatever. To each his own.
Also, might I add that I am in fact a slasher. (OHNOUNHOLYDON'TLOOKITINTHEFACE.) Not like it matters all that much, but I thought I'd mention it. We're not all idiots, I promise you. <3

I can see this going either way: On the one hand, I get vigorously creeped out by seriously under aged young girls writing R and X rated fan-fictions (of any kind)
On the other hand, I don't see some of those J-popers particularly caring, it seems like if they're 'messing around' on stage and making out, they know full well it's giving their fans an 'forbidden' kick and are milking it to the full extent.
Still, just on terms of someone defending their stance as a fan, that was immature no matter what they were defending. They could have been defending anti-slashing, and it still would have been a very poor defense of their beliefs and tastes.

Oh it's hilarious. I, one day, had some random person instant message me just to get into an argument. I stayed up nearly all night in a sort of witty insult batter with the kid. It was awesome. Finally all they could say was shut up bitch. They were the ones who randomly im'd me and started it all. It was great times.

Oh, I've dealt with those people online trying to flame you for whatever reason. >_> It's ridiculous. And they make no sense at all, yet, they say it makes them feel good and it's fun. I don't see the point at all. It just makes me aggravated, but I've come to accept that some people are just stupid and do stupid things.
Also, about the stereotype thing... My best friend (ironically) sort of acts like a Prep. >_< She'll get this tantrums if she doesn't get her way for certain things like the school play and sticks her nose up at certain people. That annoys the hell out of me. But I've told her time and time again she is very judgmental.

See, while I can understand a distaste for slash (particularly of real people) I don't see it as much different than those who fantasize about say, their favorite celebrity. The only real difference is that they're sharing the fantasy with other people who also enjoy it. I don't see it as disrespectful since it is just that, a fantasy. I also figure, to each their own. Some people are really turned on by the idea of slash pairings, even if the pairing requires completely destroying the character just to make it work and some people really enjoy writing that style. If they like it and aren't hurting anyone, why should it matter to you or anyone else for that matter? It's not as though they're forcing their fantasies onto the people they write about or even onto anyone who isn't interested in that sort of thing and like I said, they're not hurting anyone either. With as many people out there who are genuinely hurtful and disrespectful in the ways they are treating people, I just can't see wasting the energy getting upset over something like this.
Personally, I find people who go onto some else's page/site/space whatever to tell them how much they don't support what they enjoy to be just as disrespectful as the people whose only response is a mindless insult or flame. There are plenty of things in the fic world I don't like; in fact, my biggest problem with most slash applies to most fan fiction in general, that being that the writer ends up destroying the character in order to make their plot work. However, I'm not going to go onto someone else's space and accuse them of being disrespectful or in the wrong or whatever just because it doesn't suit me. Like I said, not hurting anyone, so why bother getting upset over it?

@wispytearz - I didn't do ANYTHING on anyone else's page. That's another big thing - it was MY dA gallery. Not anyone else's. Mine. Flaming idiot did not own it or any part of it. :| I did not force it on anyone else - I simply put my personal views out there on MY page. But that's not the point, anyway. :|
@PayShi - It's a proven fact: bored idiot with low self-esteem + anonymity + audience = immature flaming moron. I don't know WHY it makes people feel good about themselves...but all I can say is that I think a LOT of people I've seen on the internet need therapy, quite frankly. :|
And that's odd about your friend...sounds extremely irritating. >.<; Ever consider secretly videotaping her somehow so you can show her what she does?
@Charme de Amour - Oh god...that just sounds hilarious. Someone must have been bored. XD Seriously...I wouldn't be that surprised at a comment on...just about ANYTHING (forum thread, dA ANYTHING, etc.), but a whole IM conversation just to start an argument? And then act like you started it? Wow...just, wow. XD That's...kinda sad, actually.
@Ryose - I completely see that side of things, too...and I'm absolutely amazed at the ability to not only not seem to care, but continue giving that type of fanservice...o_O;;; It amazes me, really. I don't know how anyone manages that. And in some odd, hard to explain way...that's a part of what gives me the level of respect for them that makes me greatly dislike when people go and...write those things...and the fact that it IS mostly underage girls writing them just plain gives me the creeps. >.<;
And yes...that was insanely immature. Just another of those "Wow, way to back yourself up there" moments. XD I actually wouldn't mind a nice debate on the subject with someone who actually knows how to defend their reasoning...but that was just ridiculous. XD
@XxLuinxX - I don't understand how people can do it, either. I mean, seriously...do they think it makes them look smart, or badass, or what? It's just...amazingly stupid. XD
And don't worry, I know that not all slash fans are idiots. Like I said, I have many friends who are. "Hate the sin, not the sinner" is an applicable quote here. As long as you don't force it on me, I'll usually have nothing against you. Unless there's something else that makes me dislike you, but I'm usually nice. XD
@'clockwork - I seriously wonder how they ever manage to continue that onstage fanservice without going insane from the effects it has on their fan communities. I really, really wonder...however they do it, it just amazes me. D: And the way some people will defend these pairings like they would their religion...when I can prove it's all a fanservice act with one quote in some cases...>.<;
What site might this be? I'm a bit curious. Most sites I know that are that rude pretty much live for sarcasm. o_O;
@fuyumi_saito - Usually it just makes me laugh when it happens to me...but sometimes, when I'm not in the mood to deal with idiots, it does tick me off, too. >.<;
I generally block people after they've tried anything like what happened yesterday. My block list on dA, sadly, is full - I have to take off the oldest block to add another, and hope to god the person I unblocked doesn't get it in their head to try again. XD;
@Box of Bullets - It was mostly the blatant wording that made me fall over laughing. Really, I have to wonder what it is about blatant and simple word choices that makes people feel intelligent. I could have come up with something infinitely better, and oh, how I wanted to when I saw that...XD But I resisted.
Amazing how often this kind of thing happens on the internet. Like I said, it's been proven: bored idiot with low self-esteem + anonymity + audience = immature flaming moron.
@Whoever cares: This particular person who inspired this thread, right before I blocked her, tried to prove herself halfway intelligent by commenting to me in basic French, apparently thinking I wouldn't understand (and I DO understand a good amount of French, though I couldn't speak it). It gave me a good laugh.

Wow. Did that person really think that that was going to change your mind? I'm still amazed by the stupidity of people.
I'm all about respect too. However, my parents taught me that if I absolutely must make some remark in a situation like that, to at least do it tastefully.
Well, some of us got a laugh out this anyways.

xD Oh boy, you'd think they would realize that calling someone a dumbass isn't going to change their opinion. It seems to pop up a lot when someone doesn't really have anything to back up their opinion. They resort to tossing around insults. You'd think they'd realize they're just making themselves, and whatever they're supporting, look bad.
I've only had one person that really got me laughing. She commented on my profile once, so I had read her profile when I commented back. The whole thing was full of how nice she was and how much she disliked people who were mean to others for no reason. Yeah, I'm sure you can guess where this story is going. xD She ended up making a thread in a guild I was a part of talking about animal cruelty. Someone responded about how he didn't feel the same way as her. He was pretty polite about it, too. So how does the girl respond? "I'm going to laugh when your dog gets run over."
I can't remember the exact quote, but that's the main idea. So I just had to ask her what was up; why was she standing up for animals in one post, and hoping they got killed in another? I didn't think it was very insulting. After all, it was just a question. She told me I didn't have a brain and blocked me. xD
A week later, the story ends when she PMs me, just saying 'Bitch.' I always thought that if you blocked a person, they couldn't contact you and you couldn't contact them, but I guess I was wrong. Either that or she took me off her blocked list just to send that message. =/ So I ended up blocking her. There's no point in coming back a week later and trying to insult me.

The internet does spawn quite a few strange entities doesn't it?
It's like they see it as an immunity shield; they can say what they want, however they want, and feel completely untouchable.
I have a mathematical equation to calculate this strange species of people:
normal person + anonymity + internet = total moron.
It just goes to show that you just can't find good arguments nowadays lol

You know what my favorite argument of all time is?
"WELL, YOU'RE JUST JEALOUS!"
You may as well just say "you are completely right and I am wrong and I cannot think of anything better to say and I've already used up my pathetically tiny vat of insults so I'm just going to pretend like it's because you are jealous of me when in reality I am probably jealous of YOU."

It's why I hate people in general. Honestly. And also why I never bother attempting to join a supposedly intelligent conversation because they just aren't. You will get ignored and/or flamed.
It's stupid. It invalidates the entire argument made when the person flames.
