Up until my last year in high school, it was a violation of school policy for anyone except police officers of fire fighters to even bring cell phones on school property. However, that all changed after September 11th. After that, most schools were bullied into allowing students to bring cells phones so that in case something like that ever happened again, they'd be able to contact their parents and such. Personally, I find this to be absolutely ridiculous; however, if they're going to let kids have their cell phones in school, then students should at least be required to keep them off unless there is an emergency. If it were my decision, that would be the rule and anyone caught with the phone on would lose it. I imagine we'd have a large collection of cell phones in that first month but the kids would learn and those who kept bringing them would keep them off or at the very least be discreet enough as to not get caught using them.

I heard that the first calls they received came students who had cell phones, and that's why schools have let up on cell phones. It is my understanding though that cell phones are not to be seen or heard, or they get taken away(in most classes, at least).
I think if students are respectful enough, they should be allowed to have cell phones at school. The high school I went to, you weren't allowed to use an office phone if you had to call home, and you could never get on a payphone because they were all taken up by girls 'talking to their boyfriends'. (I never understood why their boyfriends weren't in school.)
I think phones are okay, but they should never be on during class.

That teacher lost their authority and appeal to the students, so it's not really that odd. You can't always expect kids to behave with respect to authority if they don't feel that the person in charge deserve their respect.

What a brat! -sigh-

This situation is kind of like what happens in chorus mostly every chorus I go to. There are these three girls that mostly texts to people across the room and also talks alot. I always hated them but they didn't know that because I was mostly the quiet/shy type in school. Guess what when the teachers catched them everytime?? They say 'Sorry Miss' and return back to normal. BUT still do the same dang thing over, and over again untill the point I really need to bang my dang head on the dang table! It just irritates me how retarted they are to think they are above all of us and allow themselves to act like that. And I'm only thirteen and I feel I'm more mature than them at times.

Wow, what a dingbat. I don't know anyone this happened to. Just because my friends remember to put their phone on vibrate during class. Yes the girl is pretty dumb considering that she didn't seem to realize that her cellphone would probably get taken away. I think that she does have a brain, it's just made out of air :). It saddens me that the teacher wasn't able to get her stop or care.

that was pretty rude of that girl to do that. unless it was like an important call but from the sounds of it, it wasn't.
i have never seen that happen. because if we were to pull out our phones in class it would be taken away from us for a week.

I hate it when people are disrespectful to teachers. I often befriend my teachers and most of the time, they are really awesome people. And it's always helpful to befriend an English teacher, because if you get a question for homework you don't understand, they can explain it to you.

I will not work with or befriend people that use their cell phones and iPods in class. In my school doing so will get you a Saturday school, but they get away with it because the teachers are dealing with six classes of 35+ students and their school work leaving them with little time to reprimand students. It makes me so mad. :/

I usually try to befriend the teachers for all the reasons like BlackCat, as well.

But lately, I've been laughing so loud in class that the teachers have been yelling at me. I don't know, I can't really control my scary laugh sometimes. o_O

rofl. It's funny how you ask "Does this girl have a brain?"

Anyways, that girl is probably a wannabe bad-girl that was raised to be like that in her home. Or maybe in her home she ignores her parents too. Point of the matter, a message to the girl (even though she'll never see this :P). Don't try to be the bad-girl, you'll get nowhere and real down-to-earth guys don't like girls with problems.

I can't stand people that think they're above all forms of authority or those kids who think they're all that just because they talk back to teachers. I think that schools need to be harsher as far as cell phone use goes in the class rooms. It's a learning environment, not a place to be yaking on your cell phone or texting whoever. I hate how some students don't see to realize that.

There's a girl who regularly walks into my Chemistry class late (like 20 minutes late) and just strolls up to her seat as if none of us or our lecturer were even there. If our lecturer does say something like "What time do you call this?" she just growls "Sor-ry!" as if we're all inconveniencing her.

On the phone front: we're allowed mobile phones in sixth form, and even though they're supposed to be turned off, nobody actually checks. Most people just keep them on silent and answer them at the end of the lesson. If they do go off, we're expected to not answer the call and turn the phone off. It's just common courtesy. The only calls we're officially allowed to answer are calls regarding university or job interviews, but I doubt that girl was aiming for either of those!

Yeah, people are always like that at my school. In my mythology class, there are two girls that have major attitudes towards the teacher and treat the teacher like crap all the time. I think my teacher is racist though, the way she talks kinda prooves it. Anyway, this one girl started talking crap to the teacher because she touched her shoulder when she was sleeping during class. So the teacher is trying to explain that she was just trying to wake her up because we shouldn't be sleeping during class. But the girl kept being a moron and arguing with her talking about how if she touches her again they are going to have problems and stuff. The teacher, honestly, started getting weird and saying stuff like "but I like touching you, you're a beautiful girl" so that became really creepy. But yeah, the girl that was arguing with the teacher made almost everyone want to resort to violence, it was annoying because we were all trying to work when this incident happened. This is how it's like in every classroom I've ever been in, there is one girl with a bad attitude purposely trying to make a scene. Not only that, but there is a know-it-all in my other class that does nothing but try to make everyone feel stupid, it's really annoying.
