Anyone here listen to hip hop? 8)
I don't mean the pop stuff like Soulja Boy or whatever is on MTV right now; I mean artists that actually rap about meaningful issues and do more with their words than simply rhyme the ends of every line. Anyone from the well known legends like 2Pac and Biggie to artists of the more underground community like Immortal Technique, KRS-One, Murs, Aesop Rock, Atmosphere, and many more. I only started getting into hip hop pretty recently, so I'd like some suggestions on who to listen to and what they're all about. :]

I like Soul Junk, Beastie Boys, Cypress Hill, MC Chris, Outkast, and Dälek. I'm not super big on hip hop and stuff... but I like some!

You seem to misunderstand, yes, society has declared that Hip Hop has died off and is no longer popular, but that doesn't mean you cant rock out to it every day ;D

If hip hop isn't dead, then it should be.
Personally, I hate it. Hate hate hate.

Beastie Boys are great. :3
Outkast's song "Roses has my name in it, yayy." 8D & Cypress Hill's "Hits From the Bong"... hahaha. <3 I'll check out the other artists you listed, Believo. I've heard of MC Chris, but I'm not sure if I've actually heard his music.

That's what I'm saying...? The title is a reference to the Nas song "Hip Hop is Dead." He refers to a lot of southern stuff like the crunk genre as why hip hop is dead, but there are still people out there who rap about things that matter such as political and social issues.
Lovvy ||
I'm guessing you haven't listened to the stuff that's not mainstream. :?
Don't flame.

The underground hip hop that you hear late at night on local college radio station is the kind of hip hop for me. :D

I love tupac Shakkur he is definitely one of my favorite rappers who ever lived. Too bad he died :cry:
I also like Nas, Lupe Fiasco, and my absolute favorite is Kanye West.
But other than that, I don't listen to too much rap.
But one thing i cant stand is soulja boy, he just had a one hit wonder, and other than that one song (which is so annoying) he has like no other songs that are good :x

If I've disliked every hip hop song I've ever heard, what would give me the incentive to go actively pursue anything underground? :|
I don't think that being underground makes it any better, I really don't.
Expressing dislike =/= flaming. I just express it... strongly.

Oooh. I don't really listen to the radio anymore. I do occasionally listen to Indiefeed's hip hop podcast though, which is how I discovered many of the artists I listen to now.
Takabean ||
I like everyone you mentioned. ^^ I could have sworn Lupe Fiasco's "Kick, Push" came out before 2007 though. I feel like I heard it so long ago. o.o
I have to admit "Crank Dat" is pretty catchy ahaha. Then again, I don't pay that much attention to tv and the radio so I haven't had to hear it everywhere. A lot of rappers these days are just one hit wonders; they put out a song that is about nothing in particular but has a dance-able beat, and then they fade out.
Lovvy ||
This thread is for people who listen to real hip hop and it is not even about the stuff in the media. Entering a thread and just saying you hate the topic at hand = flaming. Please get out. :)

Get out of the thread Lovvy. You aren't even expressing a proper opinion. You're just stating you hate it, without a proper critique. Don't like it, don't post. This is a thread for people that like hip-hop, therefore nobody cares that you don't like it.
And please don't dislike me for being so strong on you, I'm just saying what's up.
Anyways back on topic, yes I do listen to hip-hop but since I'm not American; just Puertorican. I listen to Reggaeton. Which is what hip-hop is to Americans, reggaeton is to Puertoricans. And I love it not mainstream stuff like Daddy Yankee or Don Omar but good stuff like Residente Calle 13(Resident Street 13), Vico C, and Eddie Dee. Good meaningful stuff. So I get what you mean.
Edit: Wow, I just read this and realized my English sucks. Forget it, I'm tired. I hope you guys get what I mean.

Caroline;
Oh, do! It's a bit different, but that's what makes it interesting.
If you know Sealab 2021 well, then you've heard MC Chris. :D
I highly suggest Fett's Vette by him. It's my favorite. A rap song about Star Wars. :lol:

It really depends on what you like. I used to love hip hop, but its becoming ridiculous. But a few songs still catch my attention. I just found out about K-OS and he's pretty good to me. Personally I love Bone-thugs-n-Harmony but I doubt others would. I'm more of an R & B type of person. But its good to see that people actually like real hip hop, not that garbarge they play on BET and the radio. Its so depressing to see BET fall so far from what it used to be.

Thanks Andre. P:
I wouldn't mind much if someone wanted to come in here and provide a discussion about why they dislike hip hop, but simply saying "DIS SUX LOL" doesn't make you seem cool or hardcore. XDD
I don't think I've heard reggaeton. I'll look into it. Wikipedia makes it sound good, haha. Is it mostly in Spanish?
& Your English is fine. I didn't even know that English wasn't your first language until I read in another thread that you can only read/write it, not speak it. :O
Believo ||
I've never seen that show before. :< MC Chris' music is amusing and fun though.
Takabean ||
Okay, so it's not just me. :o
lolol apple bottom jeans
Mainstream rap has moved from being about girls and cars to being about just random things. XD
oHsoDemandinG ||
I've been meaning to listen to Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony for a while! My best friend likes them. I didn't like hip hop until I discovered a few years ago that there was more to it than what was on tv and radio. There are some popular artists I do like, such as T.I., but you're right, it's becoming ridiculous. Few of those rappers even stick around after one hit.

Yeah, I can never seem to find good radio stations. x.x
Right now I'm in Taiwan, and I didn't find any English stations when I scanned through the radio. xD When I lived in San Francisco, I listened to a dance-y electro station and a weekly radio show called Cobain in a Coma. That's pretty much all though.

Check out The Hood Internet. They make mash-ups of rap songs and indie rock/pop, electronica, etc.
