I generally am just a passive listener when it comes to stuff like gossip. Keeping up w/ all the crap that's going on in my circle of acquaintances just takes too much effort for so little gain.

I don't like real life gossip. I guess it's because I don't really care about what's going on in the real world.
But on menewsha it's totally different. I once got daubbed the gossip queen of menewsha. If you want to know what's going on about something I'm usually a good person to ask.
But I admit that I love mene gossip. I fail to see the point in lying about whether you like or dislike something.
On that note, I don't make things up, I just like to hear everything and pass things on. Gossip doesn't always mean making things up.

To be honest, I live strictly by the rule that I will only say things behind peoples' backs that I would also say to their face.
As far as I'm concerned, if you need to get your kicks from talking about other people, then your own life must be pretty boring.

I don't ever spread the gossip, but I like listening. It's interesting (and, I admit, sometimes a bit depressing...).

I love gossip only when it refers to true rumors and it's not finalized to hurt anyone's feelings! Chatting about friends and what happening to your colleagues it may be fun but spreading false rumors only to damage a person or to have fun on others' disgraces is horrible! T^T
I love online gossip, especially when it's about new updates or new couples ;D

I generally walk away from the conversation if it turns to gossip. I really don't care to hear other people's opinions and stories on some person who they don't have the nerve to face. Out of everyone I know, there is only one person I don't like, and while I'm not rude about it, I have no problem letting her know that I don't like her around me. But I didn't mind hearing it back in high school even though I still never participated in it so maybe it's an age thing or something.

Why does talking about other people have to always be "gossip"? xD I mean your life is usually made up of your environment and the people in it. It's natural to talk about it. I think it's perfectly fine. As long as you are not doing it in a mean spirited way to hurt other people.

I honestly don't care much for gossip. Perhaps thats why people tend to tell me things. I'll have random people just start talking to me about personal stuff in their lives and about other people. I just sit and listen and I really wish they would stop but I don't want to be rude and cut them off. *sigh*
It's the same way for my mother. The other day she was in the grocery store and a woman she had never seen before came up to her and started telling her all about how her daughter had had her eyebrows waxed and they did it wrong and now the girls eyebrows were all uneven or something.

I love gossiping, but I don't talk about people behind their back because I think it is very rude!:x I think that makes us bad people because usually if we talk about people that you don't like it would often cause fights. Yeah sure it might be true, but if you have something bad or rude to say just keep it inside your head :)

I personally do not believe in human nature. There nothing that we do just because we do it. I believe that everything we do is derived from our environment and how we interact as species and since we all share the same experience, we brand it as our “nature”. But it is just a norm we created.
Humans have a unique ability to talk. They have a lower larynx compared to other animals that’s why they can form words. And since we are smart beings, we formed language. But humans are unique. They have the ability to talk about other people who are not in front of them.
We like to talk about other people because we can evaluate our experiences based on theirs. We can look at how people make mistakes or sometimes how they succeed. We evaluate their appearances, clothing and behaviors and determine what’s good and what’s bad. We usually are happy when someone see things the way we see it. I think it is but normal.
I think it is impossible for any human being to not engage in talking about other people. But notice how I avoid the word “gossip”. It has a negative connotation. For it pertains to the people who talk ill of others or invade other people’s private lives or secrets. I think in that part, it is wrong. For it destroys the reputation of someone else to be able to lift your own reputation to the one you’re talking to.
Ordinary conversations about others are okay. Discussing perceptions on others are okay. Talking ill of others. Not okay.

I hate most gossip, and I'm not just saying that. Whenever I hear gossip in the halls, I can't help but think, "Don't you people have anything better to do than critique others' lives?"
Now, I will admit that gossip-rumors are better. Like if someone at our school pulled the fire alarm, it's kind of fun to hear all the rumors flying about. And its fascinating to see how each one fits into a small piece of the puzzle.
So what I'm trying to say is that gossip like this: "I heard she's dating that one guy," or "Someone told me that he wasn't sick on Monday...he cut school," is annoying and pointless.
Gossip like this: "I heard some guy pulled the alarm as an act of rebellion!" is entertaining.
