Practice is always good. Take your time, and when you feel a bit more confident in your abilities, try to start selling a few.

I'm finally starting to break even in Fishing. Almost ran out of gold halfway this morning when I did it, but I'm finally catching actual fish. xD

Fishing's nice, once you can save afford to get enough experience. I think it took about 3-400 gold to start to break even.

And the only other decent way to get gold that I can think of is on the forums.
