I woke up this morning and decided that after breakfast, I will go out for a jog. Mind you, it has been years since I last ran. I mean, it's been like 4 years since I had P.E. class in high school. (Only two years were required, so I didn't take P.E. after sophomore year.) It's been like 2 years since I last went to the gym. I am most definitely out of shape. D:
I stretched and did some calisthenics, grabbed a bottle of water and was out the door. I jogged a little bit, which was cool, and then like.. after a block I was out of breath and it was getting hotter. D: I set little goals for myself, like "Run to the stop sign!" but I ended up walking most of my route. :/ And I came home all sore and tired. How embarrassing. But! I plan on exercising more today, maybe do a couple laps in the pool, do more sit-ups, etc. It's a start, right?
What do you guys do to keep in shape? Do you still take P.E.? Any advice for me to get me in shape? I can't afford a gym membership! D:

I do a few push ups and sit ups every now and again, though sit up are bad news with my lower spine popping out of place whenever I do sit ups. Bad news.

This is what I use. I'm slowly but surely dropping weight and gaining energy and I love it! It helps keep track of calories, but they have some awesome exercises in there too! They're hard, but you feel good after you do them so I rather like it. They don't take long either which is another bonus.

I've only been on it about a month, but so far it seems to be working really well! I've dropped around 3 pounds, but I'm toning up so well that it looks more like I've lost 10! I can fit in my tight jeans. They're still tight, but at the rate I'm going I'll be fitting them perfectly in another month.

opinion wise, I believe swimming is the best form of excercise possible since it uses all the major muscles, maybe a couple laps a day or if you can't try cycling but do it in moderation and don't over exert yourself
yo could also try Dance Dance Revolution now that'sa great workout C:
and igf that isn't workin for you, just try doing like sit-ups and push-ups maybe for twenty minutes a day and you'll be getin where you want in no time
also ifyou don't like running take hikes instead, they use the same muscles butyou aren't usually out of breath by the time you get to your destination
good luck^^

I walk 20 minutes to sixth form every morning and then back again at the end of the day, but that's probably the only reason I'm not hugely obese. I eat mostly healthily by choice, but I really have neglected doing any exercise for a long time.
A step machine was recently brought into the house but every time I go on it I just think I'd rather be actually going on a nice walk outside than just pretending I'm going up a hill or something.
Good luck with your exercise plan, it sounds like you definitely have the right attitude!

Ahh.. I hate being sore from working out. </33
Uhm.. I usually do 200 crunches, 100 curls with 15 lb weights just to keep toned, and bench 90 lbs twenty times. That's a usual 20 minute work out.. then if I really want to, i do some things to actually build muscle.

Yeaah, I still take PE unfortuantely. Besides, I'm just a middle-schooler. Just today I had PE and we played volleyball. I was nervous at hitting the ball. >.<
Anyways, what I do to get excercise is go to play with my sister. Likes to chase me around the dang house but at the end I pounded by her small fists. =.=

I was in the army many years ago, so I know all about the pains of running a lot. X_X I have stress fractures and can't do it anymore. I don't work out much at all anymore, sadly. I'm limited in what I'm able to do; even walking hurts my shins where I have stress fractures. They never fully heal, I'm told...
I like using hand weights, though, when I do get the chance to work out. It's not good to put weight on my legs, so I don't use a lot of gear or anything usually, though.

I still take P.E and I am on the senior basketball team so I don't have to worry about the cardio stuff. I also go to the gym quite a bit and I love doing it so I really don't find it difficult to get in shape.
Advice for you? Well, like you said, it's a start. Plus since you want to continue to excersise it should get easier. Then maybe you'll become a gym rat or one of those people that you see out running in their sweet track suits.

Boyfriend and I are going to go walking/biking (depends on which one of us chooses the activity for that day) a bunch in the spring/summer, but it's too cold to be out and about at the moment. We have a lovely park nearby that has great bike and walking trails, so that will be awesome, I just hope I don't embarrass myself by getting all red and puffy! Thanks to genetics, my face gets really red whenever I do cardio work, even if I don't feel as though I'm exerting myself. Thin skin maybe? Not really sure. Maybe my blood just likes my face. And sweating. I sweat a lot.
It really sucks XD.
But the only advice I can give you is to keep it up, it gets easier, although you may still get red, and you may still sweat, it will still get easier.

I took PE all four years in high school. I don't believe it was required the last year, but I still took it anyways. We had a really awesome Aerobics teacher so after freshman PE I took only Aerobics.
I haven't exercised in so long. I still stretch occasionally though. If I had someone to go with me I'd get a gym membership a work out at least once a week. I just don't like working out alone.
Well, basic stuff that made us do in school was sit ups, push ups, jumping jacks, stretching, and running. You need to work on your cardio and then you should have an easier time running.
Good luck!!

Omigosh, you are just like me (well, almost anyways. *grins*)
I haven't run in forever, (since before christmas vacation--which is considered forever for me) and I was planning to join a sport this year, but found that I couldn't (too inconvenient).
Well, recently I started to run again, and I ran one mile....the first half-a-mile...I was doing pretty good...the second one...I was all out of breath and my joints and muscles were all aching! :O I set a goal for myself too: the stop sign! :O :> Although, I didn't walk the rest of the way *makes you feel guilty*
I'm still aching from my run two days ago, and I just ran today...which means, even MORE aching ...*sigh*
Why do I torture myself like this? :O
To keep in shape (sort of) because I don't have anymore sports, is doing regular crunches and side crunches, and then doing 20 push-ups (that part I hate). :>

I walk and lightly jog. I hate running so jogging/running is more work for me. But it does get better if you ease in to it. I would walk a bit, jog for a few minutes, then return to a brisk walk and repeat several times for a mile or so. Sooner or later you'll be able to do it longer and faster.

Personally I love excercise.>O<
xD' I've always had the fear of getting fat like my grandma. (it runs in my jeans if you don't excersize)
I also don't want to end up with big muscles. D: No, no.
I do lunges, jogging, speed walking, wall sits, squats, etc. :3

I'm SO uninspired when it comes to working out... I discourage myself so easily, like I wake up early and dress in my workout clothes, but as soon as I get outside, its too cold, or too hot, or it looks like it MIGHT rain, so I scurry back inside.
And sometimes, when I'm doing crunches or leglifts, I lay down on the floor and just... flop. Get distracted by what's on TV and just completely forget I was doing something down there. x3
I'm getting better at staying motivated, though. I started using star stickers on my calendar to mark the days I successfully did strength training, or cardio, or ate less than 2000 calories, and its pretty inspirational to see almost an entire month of successful workout or diet days. And its right next to my computer, so it keeps bugging me, reminding me that I should be exercising rather than sitting on the computer all day, heehee.
I also keep a diet and workout journal, and it inspires me to read back and see that, yeah, 20 crunches aren't a lot, but a few weeks ago, I could barely do 10 without having to drag myself onto the bed.
Mostly I use an elliptical trainer with variable resistance and tilt settings, and I just bought a set with stability ball, elastics, ankle and wrist weights, and weight balls. The set came with a nifty circuit strength training poster, and doing different exercises every day keeps things interesting so I don't get bored. My next goal is to replace just doing cardio on the elliptical and start doing steady state cardio (walking or jogging 5 miles) once or twice a week. I got myself a pedometer too, and can't wait to use it. I'm doing pretty good this week... rather sore but happy. :3
20lbs to go! Good luck, fellow fit fanatics!

I know what you mean, I shoveled snow yesterday for the second time and my muscles are sore... it's been 4 years since my last gym class.
Start off by walking for a few days till you body get used to it, then start jogging.

I ran with my sister once because she wants to lose weight and I want to get in shape. I don't need to lose weight, I need to gain weight... muscle weight. xD But anyways, it hurt a ton. Those cramps were awful. D: My sister really helped push me though.
I think this summer I will start to run or at least walk and do sit ups every day.

I just make sure to get some walking in a few times a week, altho I've been walking more often as of late (my mom has to walk 30 minutes each day for health reasons so I walk with her since dad doesn't show a scrap of support for her).
but then, I'm pretty limited in the kind of stuff I can do. I had to give up karate when my fibromyalgia got too bad and before that I had to give up bike riding. walking is good exercising, tho, especially if there's a nice place to walk, and there is one in the town I live in. it's almost a ritual for me that once the weather starts warming up enough I go downtown, pick up a bubble tea to go from my favorite coffee place, drive a short distance away from there, and walk thru that place.

i know the feeling of being sore XP I really need to find a way to exercise during the winter. I do a little in the summer, but by the time that it's warm enough outside my limbs and muscles are stiff and unwilling to cooperate. I always feel very pathetic when summer rolls around. I think I need to start waking up a little bit earlier and running for a bit on the treadmill, but I hate it. I always feel very silly when I do.

at my school (college) i go to the gym there every day. it's free. but when summer rolls around i'll probably end up buying a gym membership.
when i was in high school, i did sports all year round. they keep you in really good shape, especially volleyball or soccer. plus you get to meet more people and make friends.
