Hey everybody, I only joined a few days ago. But that won't stop me from making new threads! (:

So, wisdom teeth. Have any of yours started to come in? Anyone got any removed? My dentist said for most people they start to come in at 18.

Oh, and it costs less to get them removed before any roots come in, so get them out as soon as possible, unless you have a big mouth and can keep them.

I actually had the surgery yesterday! It wasn't a big deal, they gassed me, stuck me with a needle full of sleepy stuff, and half an hour later I was awake and going home. There's a really, really dull pain, it doesn't hurt at all, but there is a lot of pressure because of the huge amount of swelling. I look like a cross between these two:

hehe, scared? ;P

I've a teeny little mouth, so there's no room for more teeth! And one was growing towards my ear...that couldn't have been good.

LOL at the mental image!

One was growing toward your ear?! Holy crap, that is scary because all four of mine are growing in, but they aren't giving me too much trouble besides when I eat and food gets stuck back there. *twitch* Guess I have a big mouth? D: But I don't really think so... meh, just the idea of my teeth growing toward another part of my body is beyond creepy.

So what would've happened if you let it keep growing toward your ear?

Well, it probably would have broken my jaw, but it would have been months before that happened, so I had a while. That's just me guessing, I don't really know.

You actually have teeth? Mine were a long ways away from actually coming through the gums. Guess you won't have to get them out.

I had mine out about a year ago in September and I was 15. It was a really strange/scary experience for me because they had to put me to sleep when they did it.

Same here, I'd never done that before. I could have gone out with just the laughing gas, though, I swear I didn't even need the other stuff. XD

I got mine out when I was fifteen. The anesthetic completely knocked me out and I didn't feel a thing until a little while after the surgery when my mouth was really, really sore for a few days. Painkillers 24/7. x.x I had unlimited refills of Vicodin. :lol: <3

Really? I'm barely experiencing any pain, ibuprofen is totally doing it for me. 3 every six hours.

They will. >D But it's nothing to worry about, it's a simple surgery.

Luckyy.
I didn't get any swelling though, so it's a trade-off. P:

Having them is not as painful as pulling them out. My friends got them pulled out, and he looks like a total chipmunk! His cheeks are all puffy and he can't eat anything at all.

I'm lucky int hat I don't have most of mine and the one I do have has room to grow in. It'll probably still hurt some growing in, if it ever does (I'm 23 already and it's not done anything) at least I won't have to have anything removed.
Abotu the removing them early, though, not everyone can do that. Most insurance companies will avoid paying for anything they don't have to and so removing them early can often be classified as medically unneccesary. Even with insurance it can be really expensive having wisdom teeth removed, so if the insurance won't pay for it, it can be impossible.

I had mine removed a couple years ago, in order to make room for braces. I have a small mouth and too many teeth. :(

So, for some weird genetic reason I only had 3 wisdom teeth grow in (my mom's the same way) but they pulled them all out at the same time. And then, for good measure, they pulled my last baby tooth at the same time. O_o

I had all four of mine removed at once two years ago.
I think my gums still tear a little sometimes and my lips are slightly tighter drawn.
I can't fit my fist in my mouth anymore. Dx;

God. It hurt too. The pills didn't help a'tol.

wisdom teeth suck when it comes to removing them. They're far worse than bunny teeth, believe me, I would know. I had both. D:

ICK.
I just hate the dentist. ><;

I'm 18, though I think my wisdom teeth started coming in about a year or so ago...
They are coming in REALLY slowly, and I can see one way more then the other.
My dentist said it won't really make any difference because i have enough space, though once in a while { a rare while } my teeth back thurr will be sore as hell and i'll continuously bite myself. D;

Too bad i wont need them operated on, I was really looking forward to the vicodin! xD

When I have my wisdom teeth... I don't even feel it coming. I do have a little bit difficulty biting and such, but I barely notice the pain at all. So i'm pretty lucky in that department. I don't need to pull them out ^^

I had mine taken out a couple of years ago. My mouth swelled up a lot too. It hurt a little, but I just kept ice on it rather than using any of the pain pills they gave me (I don't use medicine unless I'm very desperate). When I got home though, I slept for hours and when I woke up I felt dizzy and was having a hard time walking.

I don't think mine have come in. But I have a horrible fear of the dentist. My canines on the top row have come in above other teeth, so I really hate to smile (everyone calls them my vampire teeth). Plus, my entire bottom row is all crooked looking. But I will not get braces, I simply can't put up with them x___x and let's hope I never have to have a root canal or teeth pulled. Fillings are bad enough! I would rather have my teeth rot out of my head than have dental work T___T

Lots of replies while I was gone! Swelling more to now look like a frog rather than a cute chipmunk. However, the swelling is now going down. (:

sad_girlformat- I couldn't keep them, though, there's no room in my tiny mouth. In my case it would have been incredibly painful if they grew in, and they most likely would have broken my jaw, and I would have had to have lots of painful surgeries afterwards.

wispytearz- My mom's office switched the co. to a health savings plan, so she basically paid for the whole thing herself. Here in america the economy isn't doing so great, but my family is flourishing at the moment.

Din- I couldn't fit my fist in my mouth to begin with...but your gums still tear? After two years? Yikes... I think I'm going to heal well, though. ;O

juniper_silver- Oddly enough, ice makes it hurt a lot. Without the ice I feel just fine though, which is probably why I have such swelling.

jelachu- I hate the doctors, but I don't mind the dentist. But that's probably because the one I go to is always warm, has a fireplace, cable tv, satellite radio, big windows in every room and the floors and walls are cream-colored instead of white. ;3 It's not scary at all! But that's too bad about your teeth. Mine are straight without braces.

My dentist won't let me get them out until some of the roots are grown in because he says if he tries to take them out before I will have root damage? I have such a small mouth that I will need to have them out - but I'm almost 19 and they haven't even started popping out yet. So I don't know when I'm getting them out - just that I will have too. and that I don't want too. I've never had surjury of any kind and it freaks me out that I will have too. Especially because everyone keeps telling me "Don't worry - MOST people don't die under anestesia(sp)." and I'm like..."MOST people!?" wtf. D: I don't want surjury - so if I have to - I'm putting it off as long as possible. lol

I'm 21 and my wisdom teeth haven't started to come out. maybe they never will, but if they do, I'l have to get them removed; my bottom wisdom teeth are placed diagoally on my jaw, so they cannot come out properly, and if they do come out, I'll suffer from intense toothache and get all my wisdom teeth removed since my upper wisdom teeth might grow too long if they don't get removed. But so far I haven't had any serious problems with my wisdom teeth.

I've gotten two of them so far, and I'm 15. o___o!
A bit early, but that's the only early growth I've gotten :x
Occasionally one willpoke the gums in my upper row of teeth, but my gums are already a bit swelled to start with.
