You are wondering why I am saying the statement above, but today is St. Patrick's Day. The Roman Catholic Church changed the date, to avoid conflict with Holy Monday that falls on 3/17.
But I know there are people that did not know this but people are still going to celebrate it on Monday.
What is your reaction to this?

The Roman Catholic Church doesn't have the right to change the date. I'm sticking with the 17th personally : )

Well, it isn't a National Holiday. It's actually a religious holiday, so technically the church has the right to change it.
Saint Patrick's Day, after all.

umm, holy monday? as if i couldn't pray whilst im drunk. i take nothing seriously from a group of people who go against they're own book to suit there needs and desires...like the crusades or paying off sins, or annulment. yeah im sticking with the seventeenth. like i do every year.... even on a leap year (which would make no difference in a holiday unless it fell on the 29 of February) Im drinking my red on monday and im drinking it warm. like a real Irish man. and yes im sure many catholic Irish are gonna get drunk tonight tomorrow and the next day

You know i didnt even know about "Holy Monday". But then again the Roman Catholic church has no right in changing the date, they are worse than the united states in terms of butting their noses into everything...and im from the states!
/three cheers for 3/17 being St.Pattys day still

Well, that explains what that lady randomly said to me on Monday at work.
I'm not really Catholic but I'm part Irish... So my family and I celebrate Saint Patrick's Day... And actually, my family will be celebrating it tomorrow (corned beef and cabbage style).
Anyone know what Holy Monday is actually about? Can you not eat meat or celebrate on that day or something?

Wow, I didn't know that!
Tomorrow is Palm Sunday, I'm serving a 9:30 A.M. Mass for it. (:
I had no clue they did that! I didn't celebrate it today, though. I think my school is celebrating it Monday, because it's our birthday tomorrow.
But that's cool, thanks!

But, it seems so wrong with it not on the 17th.
I'm too much of a creature of habit, and the 17th just seems too right for them to change it all of a sudden simply to "avoid confusion" of the next religious holiday. Besides, wouldn't everyone be too drunk to attend this said holiday (assuming everyone participates, that is)?

Damned Roman Catholic Church! Those meanies have no right changing my favourite day of celebration. It is like, the only holiday that I truly enjoy.
Holy Monday can go screw itself. I'm celebrating my St Pattie's day on the day it's meant to be celebrated on.

It leads up to Easter Sunday and the end of Lent.
Also, you are not supposed to consume alcohol then, hence why it was moved.
(may not be the true reasons, but I am sure it crossed people's minds.)
And the Roman Catholic Church technically does have the right to change it, for the reason stated before by serafim_azriel.
And yes, I did know that the 15th was Saint Patrick's Day.

Its kind of a moot point since all of the true St. Patty's warriors and Irish hearts, ancestral or otherwise, will have probably been celebrating since yesterday, and will stagger through Monday, hee. ;)
I myself have raised a toast to my family in Fahysville and Galway, re-hennaed my hair spicy red, and sat in the sun long enough to get a smattering of freckles on my pale hide. (Took about 10 minutes :p) I feel rawther festive!
Yeah, since I turned 21, this has traditionally been St. Patrick's WEEKEND for my friends and I, so... hoist another Irish Carbomb, have a Killian's for me, and Erin go Bragh, all! Doesn't matter to me when you celebrate as long as you do! *pops a lampshade on her head and rejoins the party*

It doesn't really matter to me since I don't celebrate Saint Patrick's Day.
Except it's kind of weird that the church would just change the day of St. Patrick's Day.
