For my manga: I am trying to develop a quick and easy coloring style. This was drawn traditionally, colored with photoshop. I will also try coloring her with watercolors, my other option for coloring manga pages.
She is a sky mage. She has bottom wings connected to her lower spine and hips. The top wings are very tough feathers and cartilage connected to her arms that are meant to supplement the bottom wings. Sky mages are not especially aerodynamic, but they don't need to be, as they have no natural predators. They climb through the sky at their leisure. They can dive or drop incredibly fast when hunting, and their durable wings can snap out instantly to allow them to stop falling, or even immediately begin flying upwards.
Like other mages in my story, sky mages use their natural environment to fuel their magic. They can shape clothes from the sky and the clouds. They use magic to make their wings stronger, enabling the proportionately short wings to carry their heavy bodies. They have infinite possible powers over the sky, but use only what they need. Sky mages are not prone to use their powers to harm other creatures: they avoid conflict, and won't even use their powers when hunting, choosing to instead take advantage of their physical prowess.
Sky mages do not give birth as humans or other mages do. Each female can have a single egg in their lifetime, which they carry with them. They rely on their lifelong mate for food and protection for the year in which their egg is still. Female sky mages do not have breasts, as their young do not require milk.
Sky mages lose their power if they touch earthbound earth: meaning, if they touch a tree or the ground. A clump of dirt is relatively harmless. Once they have lost their powers, their wings remain too heavy for flight. They can only regain their powers if they somehow make it off of the earthbound earth for around an hour, a near impossible task. Sky mages live in the air and avoid earthbound earth. They are inherently unlikely to rescue an earthbound sky mage, possibly because of past attempts to trap entire flocks.
This is only a design concept... can you not critique anatomy? Thank you. .____.;;
