There was a Cantaloupe recall today. The FDA is warning everyone to throw any cantaloupe that's linked to a Honduran company where the outbreak of salmonella is believed to have come from.
No one's died, but apparently fourteen people have been hospitalized and are seriously ill.
If you bought any recently check with your store to see if it came from out of Honduras!

Ah, that's so sad.
I quite like cantaloupe.
Hopefully, however, this won't end like the whole Spinach fiasco.

Yeah I usually buy my fruits and veggies from the local farmers market, but if you go out to eat somewhere you can never be sure where they buy their food from and where it was imported from.
Just be careful guys! I think there were 16 different states where people have gotten ill!

Are you kidding me? I just bought a cantaloupe today and ate some of it. I was wondering why they were so cheap! Let me go check for the brand...
Edit: Phew, mine was from Costa Rica, not Honduras.

This title made me crack up.
I had like this whole scene going where there was some maniac in this crowded room holding a cantaloupe and twitching and being like "I'll do it, I will!! o__0"
And there's some man a few feet away and he's like "C'mon man. Careful with that cantaloupe! You don't want to do this. D:"
x___x;
Anyway, I haven't heard of this. Do you know what states are infected? Because my dad likes cantaloupe and tends to impulsively buy them when he goes to the store. And, I don't really want to die in such a lame manner. xD
Could you imagine, an obituary in the paper: "Died at the age of 17 after eating a bad piece of fruit." >.<

@`Kitami ^.^ That's a funny cantaloupe scene... but yeah I read a few articles and they all said that the FDA wants every one to be careful about where they buy their cantaloupe right now no matter what state they are in.
All they said though was that it's been in 16 different states that people have become ill. They haven't named states, I think because they don't want people to be too careful and think "Well I don't live in Missouri so I'll be fine" you know? Missouri was just an example though.

Why would they be contaminated? I mean, you don't eat the peel...
Anyway, I don't eat cantaloupe all that often, but I'll be sure to check.
@Kitami: I thought of a similar scene when I read the title. :lol:

thanks or the warning though... but my mom buys cantaloupe so rare the blue moon comes around more often >.<

For some reason, I got a mental image of someone chucking fruit all over a room and nearly nailing someone in the head with a cantaloupe when I read the topic title. XD
But damn. D: Thank god I don't eat cantaloupe nearly as often as I should/would like. o_o;
I hate it when things like this happen. Murphy's Law works overtime, it seems - everyone gets sick BEFORE people freak out about the recall...but then AFTER the recall, when people are going "OH CRAP, I JUST ATE TAINTED FOOD, I'M GONNA DIE!" next to nothing more happens, and people are just worked up over nothing.
Or maybe that's just me. ^^;

It's sad that the FDA Doesn't do a good enough job to prevent things like food recalls from happening in the first place. Maybe they should actually pay attention to things then people wouldn't have to worry about what they eat. It's really sad when you have to be worried about contracting diseases by eating something.

Well...I'm allergic to cantaloupe. I was really sad when I started reacting poorly to it...but I guess it came in handy. xD When I like something, I consume it in huuuge amounts.

Mom just bought one yesterday. D:
She didn't eat it yet though.
I told her this, and she's gonna ask the store she bought it from where it came from.
'Cause it doesn't exactly say on the cantaloupe. :B
