wow really?
They seem to make heaps on the cash shop... maybe they just have to much staff and overheads to pay.

Yes. The payroll is one of a company's biggest expenses.
Plus the servers cost a lot, and use a lot of electricity.
Plus they are in California, which has a high cost of living.
That is why they came up with the cash shop and evolving items and have sponsor quests.

I'm sure they could do other things people would pay for.
Paid only areas maybe?
Paid events? *shrugs* who knows what they'll do.

The thing is, I realize they have all these other factors to account for.
So now, they can't just roll over and begin anew.
But the question always in the back of my mind is, could they not have seen this coming? Some of it? A little bit of it? A very very little bit of it?
Was there nothing they could have done, or changed in the past, to at least avoid some of what is going on now?
Spam could have been handled better.
The younger the site was, the easier it would have been to weed it out yes, but Gaia has been so successful. I would think all the people they have working for them, they could have put some folks in charge of that area, and taken better care of it.
The market.. I don't know. Because even on Ava, someone complained about Bobbi interfering with the economy in order to put some kind of sink in.
It's good she did it, but he was pretty adamant about it being wrong in the end.
And I guess that may be the same for Gaia.
It's not really the people in charges' responsibility to make sure every member can afford to buy everything in their quests and such.
We the users have to battle inflation in whatever ways we can.
Botting, I don't know the history of that in other places.
I imagine that has been Gaia's greatest challenge, and I can't bring myself to blame them for that. The only thing I condone, is the random gold idea. And, pretty much all the other catering techniques they've come up with since before I joined in 2005.

I think any pay only events or areas would only tick people off.
True, it is not their job to help everyone with their quests, but at least they have some cheap starter items so that people can get SOMETHING in order to balance out the stuff costing millions of gold.
The easy gold earning is how things got to be so expensive there after all.

Gaia didn't start out the way everyone that came after.
I try to keep that in mind.
We don't get starter anything now, and I prefer it that way, even if items are hefty.
And I think if Gaia had taken the approach of encouraging literacy and such like Mene/Roli/Ava/Kinsaki/Solia do, then they might not have been so "gracious" XD with free clothes.
It's nice to have a headstart, don't get me wrong.
But it seems to make a lot or most of the people over there so dependent on getting the helping hand.
And they come to places like this and can't handle it sometimes, because you have to work at every single thing.

Well, it is pretty easy to get an outfit here now with the new games, even if they do have a gold earning cap. You just have to take it in sections : something cheap or a top on the first day, the bottom and/or shoes the next day, then accessories and handhelds on the third.
You can play one game of tetris and have the ragged shirt.
When I started here, it would have taken me three days to get the thirty gold for it because all we had for gold earning was posting [mode=oldie]*cough*[/mode]
What would any new person here have to complain about in that way?
The same for Kinsaki - they have tetris and snake - granted you only get points for your score once a day, but the Lolli set there is pretty cheap.
And gold is pretty easy to earn on Solia from posting. You can easily get your self two entire outfits from their twenty-five gold store in a day or maybe two.
Why do people have to be soooo greedy???
Why do they have no patience for a GAME???
Seriously! Do they expect to rescue Zelda or Princess Peach the first time they sit down to a new Link or Mario game??

Well, you're asking the same questions I am.
My problem is, as I've pointed out on occasion before, is that I've never been given gold or items anywhere- for the most part. [My donated Dragon sword here, and a few donated sea shells in the Roli event few weeks back XD (literally, just a few), I'm not talking about that obviously].
So naturally, I tend to be very snub about it I guess.
I don't want to sound mean, I just can't stand the begging.
I don't know why people are so desperate that they have to be the best.
And that they have to hoard like mad and take the fun out of everything by doing so.
Solia isn't even an issue, I'm not worried about there.
Kinsaki, eh. I don't play games anywhere save on Roli. So I have to depend on my skill with words to earn my way on most sites.
And whether you play games here or not, it isn't hard to earn enough for an outfit just in a few days really.
If you're a post-whore, you have it made I should think.

I tend to have short posts, so I only get one - or rarely two - points a post on kinsaki.
I need to use the games there.
I have run into beggars even on Solia, since I was on tornfaun and have stuff from there.
Yes, it is rather sad that people have to be so desperate.
When they ask me for my items, they do not realize that I have donated money each month to the monthly items - sometimes a LOT of money - and logged on practically every day to earn gold.
So, yes, having been on a site a few months of doing this I do end up with a good heap of expensive stuff.

It was from the "Farewell Tornfaun" event.
It was an extra currency you got from posting.

Angel // I see what you mean.
And, I didn't realize 'til now that the D.I. in Solia are really pricey.
Now I see what the fuss is.
Fifty dollars towards one D.I. is awfully hefty, but it balances out for the T.F. members.
I just came from a thread in which the thread creator is not at all happy, about the DI's being yearly and re-released.
Sure, I can see it is letdown to the old members who were looking to make profit later.
And, some folks mentioned it killed the elitism that would have grown due to new members not having these very rare items.
But in the end, it gives the inflation those items are producing a major sink.
And, like I said, dishing out as much money as those D.I. are for.. that's commitment.
I couldn't pay that much, not that those items interest me.
But I just couldn't put that much into something virtual.
Another good thing though about them, is that it's good money for the site.
And in the end, THAT will be a blessing to us all.
What is your opinion on that?

I'd be annoyed with how expensive the Solia items were if we didn't get so much gold for posting and the avis weren't so crazy adoreable.

Deilen, I have the angel wings and angel halo, and the Eater Confection items on Solia.
Yes! I donated fifty dollars to them! XP
I donate over one hundred dollars to Menewsha each month.
That goes to show you how nuts I am over avatar sites. XD
I am quite happy that the old items are still available.
The Christmas items there were messed up in coding, so they no longer exist.
There are no Valentine's or Halloween items transfered from the old site either.
So, in all, I'm glad I have what I can get there.
I will drop a bundle on gaia or menewsha because it is a free site, but I will not play World of Warcraft or Habbio Hotel or things like that because you have to pay every month for them.
Yes, Smolder. It ended when TonrFaun closed.
Thank you for the link, Corrie.
I'll have to drop in tomorrow.
