::wonders if anyone here speaks Spanish and crochets::
::grumbles::
I found this pattern for an awesome tie-front shrug, but it's in a Hispanic dialect, which I don't speak.
Gr!

awww! i hate that, when it's a really awesome pattern but it's in a different language.
hmm, you work in a craft store, right? maybe ask around and see if you have any luck.

No such, unfortunately.
I know for a fact that no one I work with at the moment can speak a Hispanic language, period. I've only been able to confirm via Ravelry that it's in Portugese, but even the person who told me that can't translate it because she only knits.

I've tried the google translator, but that only gave me a bunch of words thrown together that just have no place in crochet instructions.

So I just finished some baby booties for a co-worker's baby shower (the shower is tomorrow and I just remembered and I don't have time to go buy her something so I thought this would work well) - they turned out pretty cute, and worked up really really fast!

The pattern is here

I just love this new shrug I made too much not to brag about it.
It's still in the works, but all it needs are sleeves, so I'll try to get my boyfriend to take a pic of it on me this weekend, then I'll post it when I've got time on Tuesday.

You guys have GOT to try Michael's new yarn, Charisma. It's so soft, it feels almost like cashmere, but it's 100% acrylic. Seriously, try it out!

Ohh - that sounds nice

I'm working on 2 baby blankets for my nephews who were born in March - I figure at the slow slow pace I work at I may have them finished by Christmas :XD I'll have to take some photos - they're both going to be pretty much the same - blue and white stripes, but 2 different shades of blue so they can tell them apart

~revives thread~

Anyone else working on some projects right now?

I'm still in the middle of learning how to quilt. It's a bit tough, but I think I'll have a quilt finished by the end of the week. We'll see.
I've got this material. Hopefully there will be enough for some matching pillows afterward:

Oh... SO beautiful!

This is what I'm working on, only I'm using super bulky weight yarn instead of the worsted weight that is recommended. I'll have two shades of brown in place of the blue, and I'm going back and forth whether, in place of the white, I want a cream-ish color, or orange to make it more fall-like.

ohh! nice! how far along are you?

I guess since the fall is coming around the corner I've been making some nice slouchy berets.

I just started it yesterday and got six squares finished.
I'm going to have to buy more of the color I'm working on, and I still have to figure out what other kind of yarn to use for the other shade.

I'm happy to see this thread alive and well. I have a few things I've been working on lately. I'll post up pics probably tomorrow or so.

I really like that hat. It's a little too warm here for something like that right now. I've not tried to knit entralac. I'm still learning. I can crochet anything.

I have piles of squares I need to put together but I get bored of doing the same thing over and over so I have about five projects all going at once. I'm very proud that I've only got 12 more rows of a blanket for a baby (for someone on site, shhh...) and I'll be finished and I'm working section 9 of the Moderne Baby Blanket so I'm close to finishing it.

Okay, so I've got the colors settled.

And still working squares.
I'm getting bored, too, with doing the same thing over again. And over. And over. And over.

So right now I'm taking a break from the blanket, because it won't ever be ready for this fall anyhow.
And my work is getting more new yarns in. I can't wait until they're out! :eager:

Don't worry, there's plenty of time for the blanket. It's only just starting to get cool (in my part of the world, at least ), so you'll get some use out of it even if you finish in a couple months.

Bleh.
It won't be ready this year.
Between the slowpoke pace I go at (as said before, doing the same thing over and over again gets boring), and the fact that it has to cover a queen-size bed....

Yeah.

Hey everyone.

I'd really like to learn how to crochet so can anyone point me in the right direction of how to start? xD

I can knit a tiny amount, or at least I used to be able to, and I want to get back into it all again. ^^ And then eventually I want to do my own kind of patchwork quilt ...

Well, I learned from the book Stitch 'N Bitch: The Happy Hooker. It's the series that inspired the title of this thread, so you can tell that I'm a fan.

If you don't feel like spending the money, there's a ton of great tutorials on YouTube. They'll show you how to crochet a chain and then expand it in order to make a scarf. Once you can make a scarf, you can use those skills and apply them to just about anything!

I swear I actually saw the book, or maybe it was a magazine, in the shop my mum works at. I instantly thought of this thread. xD

Is it an expensive hobby? After christmas my money will have sorted itself out, but right now I can't really dive into it full throttle. But I've saved images of things I've found on flickr or DA that have been knitted or crocheted (is that a word? o.O) and they look so cute! I want to make them. n.n

well it depends. If you want to make just a scarf to start out it's like $3-5 for a skein of yarn and then some needles cost up to $8-10. at least in my area they are. It depends what yarn you like, also. I don't spend a lot of money on it...yet. Until you get to the bigger projects or things that need more colors and whatnot.

Yah.
As Yuen said.

If it's a small project, it shouldn't cost that much, and cost depends on the yarn you use.

For me, at this very moment, I'm working on a market bag, using a cone of cotton thread that cost me I think around $6 at Walmart.

But my side project, which will take until next year, is a queen-size blanket that will cost me a lot of money with all the balls of yarn that I'll have to buy, even with my employee discount at work.

*pokes head in*

I heard about this thread from Connielass. I'm planning on making all my holiday gifts this year (I always say that, but am usually too busy - but this time I mean it!) .. anyway, I'm subscribing to this for inspiration. And so I can come cry to someone. :)
