I would like to learn to knit one day. Maybe knit jumpers and scarves for the plushies I sew... IDK. If I thought I really had some patience I would want to knit a scarf like the fourth Doctor wears on Doctor Who.
My real interest lies in sewing. I love to make dolls. If only I had more time for it...

Sewing confuses me.
Mostly the use of the machine.

I prefer hand sewing. Even though it takes longer with the kind of costumes I make I feel they're more authentic that way. The machine frustrates me at times too and I know generally what to do with in.

Good day stitch-n-bitchers, I need your help! :D

I'm wanting to make some simple produce/grocery bags, crochet, net-like. There are about a million patterns I could choose online and my indecision is making me procrastinate off into the sunset.

Does anyone have experience making these, or have a favorite (simple) pattern they'd recommend?

Thanks in advance! <3

*wanders in* I am crocheting my friend a scarf for Christmas which I need to get done soon as I am making another of my friends a scarf this year too. Last Christmas my brother and his girlfriend got scarfs. Next year I'm making three for some kids I work with.

Have you ever recycled plastic bags and used them instead of yarn? I've always loved when people make shopping bags like that! They turn out incredibly strong and durable. Especially if you're going to use them for grocery shopping, it's helpful to have a bag that's waterproof and a little stretchy.

This tutorial is cute and pretty simple, I bet that you could easily enlarge it too.

@Knerd ~ Actually yes, I have made stuff with plarn! But it was jewelry/embellishments for other folks' projects. I donated my plarn balls to the local guerrilla knitters group when I left my old state. I don't get plastic bags but rarely now so I don't have enough of a stock to make anything here yet.

You can make lots of stuff with recycled plastic bags! Handbags are the most popular thing to knit/crochet, but I've also seen rugs, slippers, table place mats, cup holders, belts and amigurumi. Pretty much anytime you'd want to use a durable yarn, you can replace it with plastic.

Knerd, you've either doomed or blessed me - I just accepted a huge bag of wadded up plastic grocery bags from my neighbor. So now I can make plarn again!

Previously I was making simple flowers that another gal was using to put on some sort of bags to sell for a fundraiser, but we also made up some pins and earrings for her to wear/hand out during a recycled art show. I didn't get a chance to see how flexible it'd be in net or bag form but I think I'll give it a try once I get these bags stripped and made usable.

Hee :) It's good, it's just that once you start collecting bags, people start hearing about it and saving them for you, and someone'll find a rare one in a bright color & so you'll start trying to find more of that color, refusing to throw any away meanwhile because someday you 'might have enough to make something'.. It can get very messy. Must keep it in orderly amounts this time lest I wind up on hoarders.

I think last time the bane of my existence was this one fuchsia bag from Victoria's Secret, I never found another one and I so wanted to make a pink flower.

Hey everybody how are you all doing? The only crafty thing, besides making cards, that I do is I crochet. The only thing I know how to crochet is scarves. Last year for Christmas I made my brother and his girlfriend a scarf. This year two of my friends are getting scarves. Next year three kids I know, and are close to, are getting scarves. I also only know how to do single crochet at the moment. Zephi is the only reason I learned how to crochet. My church makes scarves and helmet liners for the troops in Afghanistan and at the time Zephi was stationed there. I decided I wanted to make her a scarf.
