I can take some! I love bamboo yarn! It's sooo soft =) It's a bit expensive but soo worth it! I've only made it into a scarf and now a hat. I bet they would be great as gloves or a cardigan.

woo @[email protected]

that's a lovely cardigan. i absolutely love the collar. i usually don't care for large, ribbed collars like that, but it's nicely shaped and whole cardigan is just a little steampunk.

otn: hatheel socks. i started them last night, and am still on the heel. the construction looks really interesting.

looks lovely YuenGuon :)
i'm too intimidated to try knitting with DPNs or circular needles. But it's something I have to learn to do, because there are so many hats and toys and things I want to knit that require knitting in the round >_<
same with crochet. i love amigurumi toys, but they're almost always crochet.

This is my ravelry, for those that want to know what i'm doing. I have way too many projects started and in hibernation than is healthy lol

but here are a few photos of 2 of the projects i've done since sackboy.

I'm about to start knitting this hat. Except, the stripes will be bigger and the colours alternating between black and either baby pink, mint green or lilac.

though if i ever learn how to kit in the round, i really want to make this hat.

Hi there.
I have been sewing off and on since I was in middle school.
(Though, I sewed two purses out of washcloths when I was in the fourth grade.)
When I was in the fourth grade I wanted to be a fashion designer.
I was adamant about it until mid-twelfth grade.
Since then I've gone back and forth between other artistic career ideas.

The thing that always gets me: I love using nice, high quality fabric, but my favorite fabric, Chinese brocade, is the bane of my existence. Does anyone have any suggestions on cutting Brocade or Satin in a way that it actually cuts correctly?

Also, I recently bought some things to teach myself to knit. I can't seem to get a hang of knitting or purling. :gonk:

Does anyone know a good book for patternmaking?
I can't find any at Barnes & Nobles, so I was going to check amazon.
Any suggestions?

Why type of patterns are you trying to make?

I remember seeing a couple good books about socks...

Sewing patterns. I still haven't figured out how to knit.. or purl. D:
I'm studying studio art at a state university now, but for grad school I may go into fashion. It's still up in the air. Every time I try to work with satin or brocade I have a panic attack.

D: That sounds terrifying!
I bought the most beautiful chinese brocade in tenth grade for my senior prom dress.
Evil brocade wouldn't cut right no matter what I tried. 5 yards of fabric wasted. The waist came out to small and not even dolly parton could have filled the bust.

Worst part: The fabric didn't even look good on me, I had ordered it online.
It's sitting in a drawer somewhere un-hemmed.

It was also the night before prom when I got to that point.
I got an blue dress that I thought was nice, but I realize now looks horrible on me. My hair didn't do right, and my junior friends I had ridden with made me leave early.

;-; Worst prom ever.

Hmm.
There's a local fabric store that sells the most gorgeous brocades and sari fabrics. I want to buy a yard or two, make up a few tarot bags.
Unless I can manage to get my weight under control, I don't think I'd make such a showy fabric into something I'd wear, lovely as it may be.

@DancerDoll Vogue should have a book patternmaking and on tailoring. I've always found them to be an excellent resource. But you may find actual patterns more useful, cheaper, and more accessible. I think I've learned most of what I know of drafting patterns just from making commercial patterns. I've seen what pieces are generally used, what they look like, and where they end up in the garment. Then, tailoring is useful for knowing where and how to adjust patterns as you're making a garment. I've had very little formal training, but I managed to draft and make a very nicely fitting tuxedo jacket (with tails!) for my Halloween costume last year. I looked at a few photos, looked at a couple mens' jackets, and did a little reading on two piece sleeves. And that was all the information I needed, since I already knew how shirts are constructed.

otn: twisted stitch legwarmers.

just off the needles: chunky legwarmers for my friend

@dancer: ahhh that's horrible! I know the feeling though, my junior prom i didn't do my hair right and my pictures were like horrible, my mom even said so =((( but i try not to look back at it.
but silk is extremely hard to cut. I'm not even sure how I did it.
maybe you should make something else out of it?

I don't have time or money to make enough objects to be able to fill a table. Wish I did.

Interesting.
Not something I'd do personally, but it's interesting, and a bit awe-inspiring, to see others doing it.
