I see your point. D= Perhaps it is better, then, to let other people make what they will of the topic? That way others can express their opinions on what the topic is actually stating. xD

I think I look on the bright side a little too much. P=

Chexala: I guess I'm just not the kind of person who can enter a debate without being annoyed by the opinions of everyone else and wanting to have others agree with me, not to say that I'm normally that way but I get like that when I'm in a debate forum.

I prefer a more relaxed discussion anyways, and I don't like having to try so hard. If I wanted to put effort into what I have to say, I'd be doing my homework.

Beff: I think that's a good idea. Leaving them out forces both the creator and the responder to think a little more about what they are saying.
Some forums can pull off spoons without too much detriment, but I don't think the GD is one of them. :(

frickay: I know what you mean. I get frustrated with other people's opinions all the time too. Sometimes it's really hard to remind myself that I can learn from them, in which case I usually excuse myself before I start causing trouble.
And yeah, I don't always want a serious discussion either, which is why I like having both the GD and Debates. It's just that there isn't usually much in the way of a general discussion to be found in the GD.

*Looks up 'detriment'.* >.>

I'll take this into account if I ever start a thread.

I only start threads in forums if I want to know what people think about something. Then it can be a little annoying when someone posts and just buggers off. >.<

Heh, yeah.
I haven't started any threads outside my shop, quest, and drabbles, because I didn't want to have to deal with it all. And, well, I don't think my thread ideas would be very interesting to most people. :/

Mene is a pretty welcoming place though, so who knows. I may give them a try one of these days.

I'd definitely look at your threads. ^^ You seem very intelligent and I'm sure anything you posted would be of interest.

Every few days I'll go through some of my recent post and see if anyone responded to me. If so I answer. Usually no one has though and it seems like a waste of time. :(

I don't think that can be helped. With lack of games and events, Mene can be boring and slow at times for new people who don't have any friends on here yet. Hell, it's even slow for me. And I have a lot of friends on here. xD I just think that people need something interesting on Mene to keep the lack of spam down.

Though, I have noticed that even though people don't tend to stay in a topic, some people make topics that could be considered spam.. Which is just as worse. >_<; I mean, yeah.. gold is nice but it'll only get you so far.

I think that lately, I've been reading topics, and just posting for the sake of posting because I have nothing else to do on this site. I'm done fishing, most of my friends are gone/offline right now and the event items that are out right now cost a large sum of gold. It kinda makes it hard not to post and run.

Well I guess the reason that I'm so easily satisfied by the level of discussion in Menewsha's GD is because I've spent far too much time in the Gaia GD. After that, any level of discussion is extremely satisfying.

What really annoys me is when you take the time to give a really detailed or meaningful response to what someone has posted and then you never here back from them. D= It's like people don't even care what other's think. >.<

I read through threads, thank you very much. I generally read the first and last pages, unless it's a short thread. :3 I like to have an idea of what's going on.
I also attempt to come back and see if anyone has responded to me, but I sometimes forget where I've been... and people don't usually respond to me. XD

It is annoying how hard it is to have a discussion when you have an array of singular posts. Of course, it can be even harder to jump into a conversation when people are already involved in one. I feel really awkward posting when there's already an in-depth conversation involving everyone in the thread...
Damn. We just can't win.

Well...
If it is a discussion topic, like you stated "The Pregnant Man".
I think that if the user posts something that's irrelevant to the topic or really quite a silly thing to ask, that they should only get half the amount of gold for posting?
I don't know really.
But I will admit it's quite irritating.
I try to read through the first post of every topic but sometimes they're so long I just skim.
I know I myself have a bad habit of sometimes doing the exact thing I just posted against.
xDDD

I agree, Kinmotsu. :(
The Debate subforum is no longer really a place for debates either. It seems that in both places, people are only posting for gold. For example, there was a thread in this forum discussing whether drugs should be legal, and some people were like "NO!!! That would be dumb" etc etc with nothing to back up their opinion even though posts above theirs were all about how legalising drugs could benefit the nation. The Debate forum is just kind of sad. People do not debate anymore; they simply post their opinion with no regard to what has already been said.

I admit I don't always read every single post, but I do skim through at least the first and last pages, more if it's a topic I am really interested in.

It is so annoying when people post a big rant and tack on at the end, "Has this ever happened to you?"
LOL.

Chexala ||
I HATE spoons -- at least, spoons where people just answer the questions without putting any further thought into their responses. Spoons should serve as prompts. They should give the reader something to talk about, but not be something that can be answered with yes/no or a simple sentence.

This goes out to you as well Valkyrie;

A spoon is a spoon-fed question. You'll see them a lot at the bottom of GD and CD posts. Usually "Has this ever happened to you?", "What would you do in this situation?"
et cetera, et cetera.

Sometimes they condense most of the post into one, easy to answer question, such as,
"Blah blah blah, *long post about the effects of inflation on post-modern art in the Middle East*", and then the spoon
"How do you think inflation has affected post-modern art in the Middle-east?".

... Okay, yes, I'm bad at explaining things. But that should help some I hope. Like I said, they're usually at the bottom of most discussion's first posts. You'll recognize them in no time :).

Neat explanation, Kat. Thankyou! I now feel less... less... um, what's that word that doesn't mean clever?" *giggles at self* I crack me up sometimes.

Anyway, now I can totally agree with the opinion stated by Caroline - spoons should be a guide to am insightful comment, not something on the lines of a true/false query. Still, I suppose stuffing a spoon in your mouth is better than just saying 'no, you're wrong' or something similar. Perhaps people should take more notice of the word 'discuss'. It means basically to state your opinion AND respond intelligently to that of others.

I've been seeing an iteration of this post quite a few times in this thread and when I thought about it I realized that if a thread has more than 3 pages, I rarely even look at it since I can't give it the attention it deserves in order to attempt to create a conversation.

I'm sometimes guilty of not reading everything before I post. I do read the first post, and usually up to five afterwards, but it's a few pages long I don't read everyone's posts. I don't usually come back after posting in the GD forum, but when posting in life issues I always return.
And if it's a thread I think I may have posted in but am not sure of, I always check if I did and what I said before posting again.
