Ugh, I am sure everyone that comes into this thread hates the telemarketers that call you every day when you just refuse and they won't give up!
So about five minutes ago, the Weed Man company called asking for my parents. I said they were not home and asked who this is. The guy replied and I told that they are not interested. Then he was all, "How do you know they are not interested?" and I was "Because they don't like the advertisements." Then he had to say, "Well they told me to call them back." My face -> =________= as I silently swore inside my mind. I said okay and hanged up on him.
There was this incident that this Vietnamese lady who was trying to convince my grandma to use this phone company, Star Trek.(Lol! The founder might've been a sci-fi geek =w=; ) She was like, extremely pushy! Telling my grandma the price to call Vietnam was cheap. That time I came home and my grandma forced the phone on me. I had no idea what she wanted. I assumed she wanted to agree to this Star Trek thing so I said I agreed that I was over 18 years of age and had the long distance phone company changed over. Then when I hanged up, I realized that my grandma didn't want it! afjadklj man!! Hang up if she is still bothering! Pissed me off and a month later the bill came and it was much more expensive than our old company. Stupid telemarketers!! DD<

Well, they are pretty annoying. Not only do I have telemarketers calling my house, but debt collectors for my mothers past boyfriend who left years ago. Jeez!
This one person from comcast called my house, and asked me if I wanted to upgrade my internet, and I said, "No, thank you." I was quite polite, too. Then, the man became persistent and a little harsh with his tone. He said, "Ma'am, it's only fifty dollars more, ma'am. I highly recommend you upgrade!...etc etc etc." Being the nice girl I am, I didn't hang up on him till he gave up and said good bye, but they sure are annoying!

We have Caller ID here so I never answer the phone unless it's someone I care to talk to (which is rare) xD
But, they are pretty perfect if you feel like prankcalling. Or, ermm, in this case, prank-"answering"? o__0
You could ask them for something and they'll be .:cough:. FORCING you to buy their product.
One time my uncle answered to them and demanded what they wanted and they got really scared. ^-^;;
I feel bad for them at times though, it is their job to annoy people and get some hell for it. D8

I had one experience where I picked up a call where this man wanted to talk to my dad so I walked down stairs and my dad said he didn't want to talk to the guy and he had already done so earlier. The conversation went as follows.
"He's not here"
"But you just said that you were going to look for him"
"well I looked and he isn't here"
"Well can you write down my number so he can call me back"
So I move to take down the number and my dad said he already had it so I pretend to write the number. The marketer then says:
"Well can you repeat it for me so that I know you have it right"
I proceed to hang up and the guy called back three times. Man, nothing annoys me more than people who can't trust other people. How dare that man assume that I wouldn't take down his number for him. He doesn't know me.

I never could stand telemarketers they always call at the worst time and they are nice until you tell them no. I have found out they stay on there until you say no 3 times. So I quickly say no, no and NO!
I know it is either jobs but I just do not like to be bothered. XP
I normally end up having fun with them. I act like something terrible has happened I scream and hang up the phone... or hold it over the toilet and flush it... or pretend I am a child and no one is home. I just can not help my self. Or if you really want to get them act like your coming on to them lol. They normally get aggravated and hang up lol.

Oh I just thought of another instance. She wasn't really a telemarketer, but she was a lady from this college that I had thought of going to. The thing is she just kept calling even though my mom said I was going to a different college.
Later I finally broke down and talked to her. She spent the whole time trying to convince me to join this major that I plainly told her I had accidentally picked up a brochure on because I didn't know what it was. She just wouldn't listen to me say "You're school does not have the major I'm interested in" Then I told her that I was going to a technical school first and she had to tell me that some of those wouldn't carry over even though I told her I already knew that. I was so relieved when she finally hung up.

Ughhh... i know how you feel. i had that happen to me too. there was this chinese guy that called and asked for my parents. I have caller I.D so i know who is calling. and it didn't look like anyone that would call my mom or dad. so i tell the guy, 'they are not home right now.' (even if they were home.)so he asks some questions like what's my mom's name. i was like, 'wtf does your advertisement have to do with my mom's name?' anyway, i give him my mom's name and then i hang up.
The next day, he calls and my mom picks up, my mom didn't want anything to do with whatever he was doing or selling so he tells him that the owner wasn't there right now, (because our house is part shop.) and then she hangs up and tells me to never pick up the phone with that number.
But the most annoying thing that that person does is he calls everyday, about every 4 hours and it pisses me off. D:
one day i will pick the phone up and tell them to stop calling. :<

I like telemarketers. They're fun to mess with. I let them do their spiel while I keep doing whatever it was I was doing when they rang, then say 'not interested' and hang up. If they want to try and waste my time, I'm going to make them waste theirs. Or, if I get bored of doing that, I pretend that they have rung a restaurant and are trying to order, but I don't speak English very well... it never fails to confuse them and to make them hang up on me instead! Another fun thing to do is to say hello, wait until they start talking, then say 'hello? Can you hear me? This is the county morgue. You kill 'em, we chill 'em!'

There was this man. I'm not really sure he was a REAL telemarketer because he came off as a real pervert. He wanted my e-mail and he said "make sure you don't share this email with your parents. It was seriously creepy. He kept calling D8;

Me and mum had just come home one day and these guys had just walked up our path to the door. D= One asked mum "Do you want £5000" and mum was like. "No." xDD We got in the door way and the other guy said "You don't want £5000!?" in a really aggressive way. D= Mum just closed the door on them. P=
I hate how now, when you get rung up by telemarketers, there is always a pre-recorded message! They don't even take the time to hear how much you hate them! D<

We do not get calls from telemarketers since we don't have a home phone. Only cells phones.
When I lived with my parents, my mom always said to say that they are not home. It sucked. I hate telling lies.

About a year ago, I had a HORRIBLE case of flu. I mean like, besides not being able to eat anything without vomiting, and other unpleasantness, I could barely move.
So, I was at home by myself, crashed on the couch, when a telemarketer called. I tried to be nice to her the first time, even though she had a really thick foreign accent and I could barely understand her. I said my parents weren't home and said goodbye.
10 minutes later, she calls back. =_=
I said "My parents aren't home. Please stop calling."
About 2 minutes passed, she calls again. I know it was her because the same number registered on the caller ID. I picked it up, and hung it up without saying anything.
I wasn't going to answer it again.
In the next 10 minutes, the phone rings 8 times, all numbers the same. DD: I had a splitting headache, I felt like I was going to get sick again, and I just wanted to go to sleep.
The phone rings again. It was the same number. I picked it up and said: "Look. I'm sick, I'm extremely irritable, and I'm getting really pissed off. I'm not old enough to talk to you, and I've told you twice that my parents are NOT AT HOME. I'm telling you now, if you call this damn number one more time, I WILL find where you live and I will vandalize everything you own." And I hung up.
Obviously, I wouldn't have done that, but I was trying to scare her. I guess I did, cause she never called again.

Yeah, I don't deal with telemarketers. I'm nice enough to at least say that I'm not interested, but I don't let them harass me. I just hang up on them. The survey people, "We're from _____ and we'd like you to participate in our survey." Click. I don't even listen after the word survey.
Oh, and I LOVE these! "This is ____, and it's very important that we talk to you, so if you could please give us a call back at...." Nope! Sorry, if it were really all that important, then you'd be calling me, not having a machine asking me to call you. I am so not dumb enough to fall for that one.
The wonderful thing about phones is that you can always just hang up. Sometimes people just don't understand that though. I understand not wanting to be rude and all, but I generally only want people I know calling my home and I refuse to let someone call me and harass me on MY phone.
Here's a tip for those of you on the non-caller list(the list that states you are NOT to get calls from telemarketers). Sometimes they will call anyways, even though you are on the list. Just tell them that you are on the list, that you have their number, and if they call again you will report them. You actually can report them and they know that so they stop. The reason they call anyways is because they're hoping YOU don't know that.

We have this company that call us at least every other day, trying to get us to switch energy suppliers.
They say they're cheaper than our current supplier, but a little research on our part has shown that they're not, because they have so many hidden charges.
It annoys me. Now I don't even listen to the same little speech they do every time I pick up the phone. Now I just have to firmly tell them that we really don't want their services, and if they continue to be pushy, I just hang up.
I also recently got a company that tried to scam me.
They told me that I had won a "free" mobile phone, and then spent ages telling me all about it and how great it was, and how it would be delivered straight to my door etc.
Well, we didn't need a new mobile phone, but if it's free, we may as well take it anyway, right? Perhaps one of my brothers could use it.
He asked for my name, but naturally I was a little suspicious, so I gave him my married name, as all of my important details are still in my maiden name.
Then he asked me for my date of birth, and alarm bells went off. I NEVER give my date of birth out over the phone.
The conversation kind of went like this:
"Can I just have your date of birth?"
"No."
"Why not?"
"Because you can commit identity theft with just my name and date of birth."
"This is not identity theft, we just need to make sure you're over 18."
"You can have my birth year, but not my full date of birth."
"You don't understand, Madam, we just need your date of birth and bank account details then you can have your free..."
"Bank account details? Piss off."
*hang up*
The sad thing is, there are so many people out there that fall for obvious scams like that.

I hate telemarketers and especially when they call early in the morning and I end up giving them the ok to something and then I get the bill and do not remember any of it. I do this a lot so I stopped answering the phone in the mornings..
I had to.. to many bills where coming in and when you say I did not order this they say we have your confirmation when we called on such and such date in the am. I freak out and say well sorry it is your fault for calling me in the freaking morning.
I mean god what do they think people like me half asleep are actually going to remember the crap they say and of course I would agree to anything just go get them to hang up so I can go back to sleep. It is not that hard to see.
I would like to get their numbers and call them on their days off and be like Oh no I have you on tape agreeing to take so much of so much or to donate so much to this and this organization.

I hate hate hate telemarketers! I generally just say no and hang up. They can get so frustrating! I hate when they keep calling back too, how annoying!
I'm afraid I can't think of any good stories off-hand, but I do have a nice scam story!
At the beginning of the week I got this email from my little brother with 'urgent assistance needed' in the topic. Immediately I go 'huh? that doesn't sound like the kid' but I open it anyway, because I do have to make sure. It is my little brother and all. Inside the email is this long blurb about how he went to London on the weekend and got his stuff stolen, including his mobile phone (which he says later in the email that he didn't bring along with him) and asks for 1,300$ to be wired to some address, using only his first name.
At this point I'm convinced it isn't my brother, but I'm not sure if it is a virus or a hacker. So I email back saying 'I'm suspicious, why didn't you tell me you were going to London?' the response is something like 'This is no time to be suspicious! This is Shane!' and the rest that followed was copy/paste of the original email. So I get in touch with my REAL baby brother because I figured he should know that he's got issues going on. And yea, turns out his email was hacked and the guy was trying to scam all his friends out of money.
I just hope the rest of his friends were smart.
And sorry... I know, a tiny bit off-topic. Forgive me?

 well sadly I do what everyone hates. I am a telemarketer, well I do market research, it's kinda the same thing minus our data is put into important studies. I do call people and ask them questions, but I've never made people do the surveys with me, I normally ask, which causes me to get into trouble with my bosses, but I normally get more people to work with me if I'm polite and I tell them the truth about how long they take. But I understand the dislike for actual telemarketer. I don't couldn't myself as a real telemarketer, besides once when I worked for Verison. Then I was selling something and I didn't do well because I feel bad for tricking people into buying things. Asking someone to take a survey for use full causes such as politics and o-zone matters is one thing.

We're pretty good about avoiding telemarketers in my house and they're not very persistent. It's a sure sign it's a telemarketer when they ask for Catherine. That's my mom's name, but nobody calls her Catherine. It's always Cathy. I always say she's unavailable and if I could take a message. I guess I don't sound like I'm over 18 (my voice does get higher when I talk on the phone), so they just tell me they'll call back later and I hang up. Then I don't here from them for weeks, even months.
