And by "more abstract work", I mean that I do things like backgrounds and whatnot (just for fun, mind you; I'm not good enough to do things like this professionally or anything)

Anyone have any thoughts?

(Obviously I have bigger versions of these lying around; I run a 1280x1024 desktop, so that's what they're all originally done in. These have been resized down so I don't break tables.)

Ohh, wow! *w* Those look really amazing! I wish I had any skill whatsoever in the art of abstract work.. heck, I can't even doodle remotely abstract things. *envies*

...Wow. I love them both, especially the second. All the details are just gorgeous.

If anyone'd be interested in the full-size versions, or whatever resolution they'd need for their desktop, just tell me and I can get right on that. :)

I really like all the different hues of blue you used in the second one. =3

If I wasn't so in love with my desktop, I'd consider using one of these. Really awesome stuff.
I'm curious what techniques you used to make these. I like the effect you've got on the splats of red, simple as it is. It's quite effective. No pun intended.

Some of it is just freeware brushes that I've found over the past few years for my tool of choice - Paint Shop Pro X2. (I absolutely refuse to use Photoshop - it's overpriced and while I know I could find a "questionably legal" version of it, it's also a massive resource hog and whatnot.)

Beyond that, it's hard to be more specific, because I just filters things and twist them and whatnot as 'feels right'.
