...ouch?
o_o;

They must be like...super-hard, frozen tears or crystallized tears or something.

...wouldn't it hurt to have crystals coming out of your eyes?
x_X;;;;

I wonder what kind, I mean, if it was diamond then I'd be amazed, but if it was some demented form of quartz...

I really just wonder how it's possible.
I can't understand the spoken language, but from the body language, they appear to be just as baffled as anyone else.

I'm wondering what the scientific explanation is!

It doesn't look like it's hurting her, because normally an eye would become red and irritated, especially if something solid like THAT was in your eye sockets.

Her eyes aren't red. She doesn't even get watery when they come out. It must be natural for her. O_o;;;;

I replayed it over and over again.

O.O
I have no clue how that's even possible.
It looks like it would hurt though, since the crystals are all jagged, but she she doesn't look like she's in pain at all.

The scientific explanation is that it's completely bogus.

They put pieces of hard crystal in that poor little girl's eyes and then fished them out for the camera.

It's a hoax, and a painful one too. They are taking advantage of that poor girl for publicity. I call it child abuse.

I'd say it's a hoax. Crystals can't be produced from your eyes. It's impossible, unless they are tear droplets gone wacko.

Well, that explains how it could be done, but what I was really hankering after was a compositional low-down of the crystals. D: The "other properties" mentioned there are a bit ambigous, and I'd rather have more detail. (Though I agree they look like herkimer diamonds)

Maybe it would be possible for bodily fluids to form a sort of hard salt-substance... kidneys can, after all, make kidney stones... but true crystals? xD In the amont of time to form seven/eight a day? Wow, think of the pressure and heat she must have inside her eyes.

Edit: I'd err on the side of hoax as well. : P

@Peacemaker - I wouldn't go as far as to say child abuse. A bit exploitive, maybe... but apart from the wound this article says you can see, it's meant to be little discomfort. Think of how magicians and the small-object-through-the-face-trick (actually, I don't know HOW they do that Dx). Apports and whatever the other one is...

That cannot possibly be real.

Crystals are created via cooling magma. I don't think a little girl has magma in her eye sockets.
And how are you able to push crystals out of your eyes without damaging them? o_o

Some sort of weird tear duct anomaly is not out of the question, but crystals are.

It's a plain and simple hoax. I really don't see why people even entertain that this is real (and you are talking to someone who isn't typically a skeptic.)

The article strikes me as pretty straightforward. I don't think he thought a costly mineral composition analysis was warranted.

I think when parents use their children in media scams or charlatain acts it's teaching them to disregard the truth. Not to mention, sticking a hard substance in your eyes, even if it is only a little painful, can probably damage the eyes. Anyone willing to do that to a child to get on TV doesn't have their priorities in the right place, I'd say.

I don't know how they do that either! I love a good magic show. The thing with magicians are that everyone knows they are performers. That makes them very different from people trying to pretend to be miracle-workers.

Even if they slide, they still have pointy edges. If she's producing eight a day... even if one NEVER got caught, eyeballs aren't meant to handle that.
And chances are, an edge is going to catch on something eventually and her eye will be impaled.

I recall seeing this on TV. And I've read the article Chaitealatte posted. Honestly, it is terrible what people do to their children for fame. :(

An analysis would have been interesting nevertheless. Even if it's just what "other properties" he found that made them herkimer diamonds, because I'm a nut for details like that. *sighs* Also, I wish the website had included the photographs taken, just for the sake of curiosity.

Also, unless you speak Lebanese, whose to say it's the father exploiting the child and not the other way around? On the previous page of the article, he talks of another "psychic" who did something similar (though her's seemed to be more likely hiding the gem between her fingers than sticking it in her eye.) I completely agree that if it is the parents' scam, then it's teaching the daughter to disregard the truth, but it's also possible they're all in on it together - or the girl's solely responsible for the hoodwink. I think the anecdote goes that she got her first one in school? Actually, I guess the issue is it's anecdotal evidence! Just because they say she's producing eight a day... well, I'd personally have it that someone explain to them if they want complete credibility, they need to observe her for an entire day, without her parents, having been checked for gems in the first place. That could completely cripple the hoax. (But our kind is amazing for its leaps of Faith and excuses.)

Damn, I want to see a magic show now. x)

Edit: Actually, I entirely agree on the parents-pushing-their-children-for-fame-and-attention part. The memory of watching a six-year-old girl sing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" on a talent show came to mind. My mother and sister were full of admiration, and, yes, it's lovely she's got a stunning voice and all that, but to put a six-year-old under the stress of filming under an audience that big? I know little kids are usually less inhibited, but... maybe a better example is child beauty pagents. Dx

I'd say it was a hoax, but the only thing that bothers me is that if those things weren't formed naturally in her eye, then why weren't her eyes red and inflamed?

I am gonna have to say hoax too, but I suppose if on the off chance it is real, it would have to be some sort of calcium deposits.

If it were real, and she were my kid, I wouldn't have TV crews round to come and gawp at her.
I'd have her checked out by a doctor, in case it were damaging her eyes.

It looks like thicker tears like that hot ice stuff. And you can see it is softer when it comes out not going to cut a book.

It would be cool it if it could actually happen. With crystals or something.

Ow, that looks painful. I wish I could understand what they were saying. It's probably like salt crystals because of salt build-up or whatever. It wouldn't be a crystal like from the ground. It would be made of salt or a build-up of something.
