I tried to find work locally a year ago - even as far as 30-45 minutes from my house. Couldn't find anything. No teaching jobs or any museums. I'm over educated and under experienced in some things, so I look scary to people who are in middle-management positions because (I've been told) I look like someone that could take over their job. So, I understand your frustration about finding a situation that is a good fit.

If there are any jobs going then there's at least 20 people applying for the same job. Also people have been hearing that places are taking on people when they're not.

That sounds so frustrating! I wanted to look into a teaching program that wouldn't require more college for me - I have two degrees already, one is a graduate degree so I can actually teach college/university level classes - but those programs are not looking for more people since they are laying off teachers right now. Not even seeking substitute teachers. So, after finally finding the right doctors for my daughter to help her with her autistic issues, I will need to look for a job that may require a move - and I don't think I have another choice.

Alot of people are being told they're over qualified for jobs now, so you're either over qualified or under qualified. It's got to a point where your best option is to sign on until you can find a job.

I'm staying in cosmetology school until I can find a job. Although I think my friend will keep her salon after her divorce, there's a chance she won't - and I don't know enough other salon owners that would be ok with me - I'm not Christian, and that's a huge deal here. My friends know me well and they don't care. If she keeps the salon, I can start assisting her this summer. But, the reality is that I need to earn money so I can get out of the relationship I'm in now and waiting a year won't do.

That's a big problem then. It gets to a point where you'll take any job within reason.

Religion isn't really a big issue with jobs over here as long as you don't let your religious beliefs get in the way of work. Unless you're a satanist then that would be a big problem when it came to jobs and you've also get investigated by the police.

Religion is like air for some of the people who live in my area. California isn't like this. Here, you can see 20' tall neon crosses on street corners - not anywhere near a church. I mean, where I live, Obama lost big. Think confederate flags everywhere. It's a scary place for a pagan.

We have three proper churches in our area and the only one that got so bigger congrigation that it had to move was the one that isn't acutally in a church building.

We do every so often get the Jehovah's Witnesses comming round and sometimes the crazy Christian dude who stands there with his bright orange bored preaching to everyone. That guy made me ashamed to be a Christian.

Other than we don't really hear about religion that much.

I grew up in an area where people were either Catholic, Mormon or some flavor of pagan. When I moved here, I discovered that most people don't think Mormons are Christian and that there are only a few varieties of Christian religions that are viewed favorably. All of which are the hellfire and brimstone variety.

What's disturbing to me is that after my husband died and I started dating, I was getting hit on by married men who were either Baptists or members of the Assembly of God - and those are institutions that are very anti-cheating. It was strange to me.

Over here alot of branches of religions have got bad reputations for some of the things that have gone on and ending up comming out into the public.

Over here, religion and scandals occur so frequently that most people aren't surprised. It hurts some people - shakes their faith - but seems like most aren't swayed. After 9/11, there was a huge surge in religious activity, but it's been steadily tapering off. Pretty interesting stuff to study because there are so many different variations on similar themes in the different sects.

Alot of people turn to religion when they feel they need it most.

I might be a Christian but I don't follow the Bible and I've never read it and don't plan on doing so. I much prefer the original festivals that have been taken over by the Christain faith.

Rad - you're not killing the thread here - it's alive!

HIM - I always try to urge people to follow the dictates of their heart where faith/religion are concerned - as I've said in other places here, too many people use fear and not love as a motivator, and that really gives them a strange view about the original message.
