Have you ever thought about buying something and then decided not to because you didn't need it, couldn't afford it etc...and then months later you're still wishing you had bought it? What about the other way around? Buying something and then realizing what a stupid mistake it was?

Personally, I more often buy things that I don't need than not buying something that I'll change my mind about later. I shop at thrift stores usually though, so it's not too expensive and I can usually just donate it back without feeling like I've wasted a lot of money.

I usually do the buying then realizing because I almost always buy something if I want it. Even if I don't have any money I'll just borrow some because if I want something, no matter how dumb it is, I feel like I have to have it NO MATTER WHAT. It's kind of sad and that's probably why I'm almost always broke.

This always happens to me.... I always buy something that I realize I didn't want later... Then I feel all crummy and stuff, but I eventually get over it. But I also hate it when people buy you things that is kind of useless and you don't like, or when you buy someone something that you realize later is kinda stupid...

I often want stuff, but think I wont need it. Then I want it still, and decide buying anyway.

I never regret buying cds or dvds. Usually its expensive stuff like electronic equipment that I regret buying.

I dont think Ive regretted buying anything. If I come home and its not to my liking, I just take it back...no use keeping it and dreading over the fact of 'wasted' money.
I never regret buying electronics...or clothes...or shoes...or jewelry. XD

I'm weird......I usually pick up everything I want when I go shopping, then gradually put back the things I don't need as I go through the store, and end up leaving with just the stuff I really need, plus maybe one or two things I want for either myself or my kids. However, I almost never splurge on real expensive stuff, whether I have the money or not. I guess I figure I'd rather save the money for a cool trip or something later on than have instant gratification.

I end up doing this a lot. If I buy it, I realize it is a mistake and if I do not then I think bout it forever. It is a never ending cycle lol.

The latest mistake was the Super Smash Bro Brawl for wii. I should have just rented it after 3 days I am bored of it and it was 55 dollars down the drain.

This never happens to me, because I never have any money. Seriously. I will go months without a dime. I am unemployed, and my parents don't give me any... if I ever do get money, I spend it buying lunch for my boyfriend (mostly out of guilt)...
Yep. No impulse buys when you can't have any money.

i always do that!
when i tell myself that i'm going to buy it, i don't. because i do not need it and because it's a waste of money.
but, when i don't buy it, it makes be mad and want to buy it even more.
the most annoying-est thing is that when i actually buy something that i want,
i want to return it because i like having money more. D:
sometimes i just wish i can make up my mind already. >_>

That's Alllllwwwaaaays happening to me!
I hate it, because it's not months that I'll wish I had it, it'd be when I first get home. Than try and go back, and it'll be gone.

The worst is when you're at conventions, and you know you'll probably never see that particular item again. -w-;
And you chose to ignore buying it anyways.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who does this.

critternator- I agree, bad gifts are worse than buying something worthless for yourself. Usually whoever recieves the gift and doesn't like it feels too guilty to get rid of it. If I'm giving a gift to someone who I think might be too polite to admit they don't like it I try to either have a gift reciept or somehow tell them that if they don't like it, I won't be upset if they get rid of it.

ishtar163- That's a really good stategy. When I used to work at Claire's I saw a grandma taking her granddaughter through the store and using that method. In the end she picked up a couple of similar items at a time and asked her granddaughter which one she liked the most. It was a good way of getting out of buying a lot without causing a temper tantrum.

Bread Chan- I hate it when you decide to go back for something and it's gone! That's the worst feeling...because if you spent gas going back to get it you probably really wanted it. That's one of the unfortunate things about thrift store shopping...there's only one of each item.

that kind of thin happens all the time to me on either neopets or gaia. like when the collectables come out, i think that they are lame and just ignore them, then comes the next month and they go up much higher. i hate when that kind of thing happens to me >< . the other way around too. like on gaia, i think i am making a good investment, but then the next days or month the collectable i bought goes down like... at least 5k ><

I always buy things that I don't need. But mostly little things that cost like $1. Even if I knew I would never use it but I still wanted it, I'd probably buy it. Especially if I happened to be depressed on that day. Buying useless things makes me happy. I don't know why.

yes, all the time, to both questions. I have made regrettable purchases and also passed up on awesome things. I really wish I had bought gold ( it keeps rising dramatically in value ) when it was lower, now its worth a lot more and I am kicking myself over that. I also all the money I spend on some other avatar sites and a MMORPG I used to play. Its amazing how easy it is to spend so much without really realizing it. Clicking is a lot easier then the feel of handing real cash to someone. It desensitizes you.

Yes. Every time I spend money and lost my job or every time I ran out of money.
Resulting in energy related problems or I call them finanicalrexia. If you've heard about anorexia, finanicalrexia is like that except it's a financially restrictive diet.

I don't do well eating cheaply. I've tried it many times over out of necessity. I feel like I spend far too much eating and could spend more if I had it, but it's only way I can address my high metabolism.

i used to be addicted to buying and selling stuff on there. but i cancelled my account there months back to prevent myself from buying anything else. and i sell my things locally. i've also cut back on "donating" to avatar sites, haha. i realized, i should be saving my money for more useful things. my latest purchase was two neautrogena acne products from drugstore.com. they're things i need...so i'm not going to kick myself over this one. c;

I have only regretted one spur purchase, and that was a hair straightener. Endedup giving it to a freind for her birthday since she tried it and loved it (it was a high quality one).

I have one main thing that I kicked myself in the but for not buying, and that was my Ball Joint Doll. I could have baught him months ago, but I decided to spend the money on something more preactical but did not bring me near as much joy, and lots of eating out, which isn't good for one anywho.

It worked out though as a new Facial mould I liked better for the character I had in mind came to my eye... and it was on sale second hand. He's going to be here within the next week or two, and I'm much happier with my decision to wait now.
