@aonith:: I am not boycotting meat. I simply choose not to eat it because it makes me feel better inside. Being vegetarian, for me, it's a way of comforting myself emotionally. So I can sleep at night.

Yeah, we all think it sounds gross. She thought so too. Said it was absolutely delicious.

See, this is exactly why I don't call myself a vegetarian. Because this is the opinion people have of vegetarians.

I really could care less if other people eat meat. This is My choice, not yours.

I'm an omnivour!
Nom nom nom.

x' D

Someone else's food choice doesn't bother me, it's what's going in their body, I'd think they have a say. It's nothing really to be dealt with, I just make sure I'm not shoving meat down their throat (I give an alternative) and it's all good.

I don't see why you'd hate or dislike someone based solely on what they eat. No, I don't agree with how the animals are killed, and that's something many people are trying to work on, but truthfully if the whole world was vegetarian, too many animals would over populate and have to compete for resources.

Our food cycle(chain) is delicately balanced.

I eat meat... I am a huge meat eater. I can not help it I love it. I am a meat and potatoes person.

I do not really know anyone who is a vegan. Everyone I know is a meat eater.

I like meat to much to give it up.

I do not really lol. They are just like me. People who do not eat meat do not bother me either... I think everyone has a choice.

I'm a vegetarian. I don't need to eat meat and I love animals so I decided to become a vegetarian. I've been one since 6th grade(8ish years). At first it was kind of difficult because no one that I live with is a vegetarian, but it became normal after a while. I wouldn't be able to eat meat again.

I don't care what others decide to do. Yes, I love animals, but I really don't think that bossing people around and telling them not to eat meat is going to do anything for the animals. I've never in my life told someone to become a vegetarian, but two of my friends became vegetarians partly because they saw me do it and realized it wasn't hard.

I might someday become a vegan, but right now it seems very difficult. If I learn how to cook and move out, it will make it much more likely.

I've had a few people preach to me about how being a vegetarian is wrong, but most of them have a lot of misconceptions and once you start talking to them they realize that you can both respect each other.

Edit: Since people are talking about different types of vegetarians, I'm an ovo-lacto vegetarian(I eat eggs and dairy, but not fish, poulty, or any other type of meat). People who do eat fish are usually concerned about health rather than animals usually I think. Fish is supposed to be really healthy unlike most other meats.

-Who doesn't eat meat? Me *raises hand*
-Who is vegan? I'm mostly vegan.
-If you don't, then why? In the beginning it was for the same reason other animals go vegetarian, pure instinct.
Later I become aware of environmental and ethical reasons. I've been vegetarian for many years now and I couldn't see myself any other way anymore.
Eating meat would be like deciding to start eating wood or cardboard, it wouldn't feel right anymore.

-How do you deal with meat eaters? Eating highly intelligent and sentient animals such as pigs really bothers me, otherwise I see eating meat in general as a choice. I try to be a tolerant as I can.
-Meat eaters, how do deal with vegetarians/vegans? NA
-Meat eaters, do you agree/disagree, like/dislike non-meat eaters? NA

I would be a vegatarian if I could.
I really appareciate those who are vegatarian or vegan, because they do it for a good cause. The way we raise and slaughter animals simply for food, and keep them held in the poorest conditions possible, is completely in-humane.
But it's just not in me to give up meat all together. I really wish I could go vegatarian but I love meat and meat I shall eat.

I don't eat seafood, either, but i wouldn't anyway. It goes against my religion. I do know some people, though, who don't eat meat or eggs, but eat fish. It could be said that im not a real vegetarian because i eat eggs.
Too each their own, though, i suppose.
The common accepted use of the term vegetarian includes eating eggs.

Well, I eat meat. I personally don't understand peoples reasoning behind not eating meat. A lot of animals eat meat, we are animals. Therefore, what is wrong with us eating meat? I understand if one just doesn't like it, or something like that. Or disagree with how the animals are treated in captivity, but is your not eating them gonna make any difference? You could always go hunt your own meat. Our bodies wouldn't be made to digest meat, if we weren't meant to eat it. Someone actually told me once that meat was unhealthy to eat. That is ridiculus. We are built to eat it. Personally, if I don't eat red meat, I would be taking very high iron supplements for the rest of my life. I get very sick if I don't eat red meat at least every few weeks, preferably more.

One of the major differences between us and other animals is that we're intelligent enough to make a choice whether we want to eat meat or not. I'm not saying it's wrong for others to eat meat, but for me it would be wrong. I alone might not make a huge difference in how many animals are kept in horrible conditions and slaughtered inhumanely, but it lets me sleep easier knowing that I'm doing what I can.

And if enough people choose to become vegetarian, we will make a difference. It's all based on supply and demand. If the demand for meat goes down significantly, the supply will go down. Again, I'm not telling you that you should be a vegetarian, I'm just explaining why some people choose to be. It sounds like maybe you've had some bad experiences with vegetarians and no one has bothered to discuss it with you rationally.

All I am saying is that I don't really get it. it's just a personal thing, no offense. Just because we think we are smarter, does not make us any less animals.

Oh, I didn't mean to say that we shouldn't eat meat because we are smarter. I meant to say that we can make a choice whether we want to or not because we are smarter.

And that's ok, I know a lot of people who don't agree with vegetarians. I don't take it personally unless they are total asses about it(which you aren't).

I was a vegetarian in highschool and stuck with it for quite a while. Mine was for health reasons, I really wanted to lose weight. Now I'm back to my omnivorous ways though. If the hubby would go for it I'd make our entire family vegetarian though, I am so paranoid about the hormones and crap they put in meat now.

I am a meat eater.
I let vegans be vegans. I see no need to change their outlook on things. I do not need to argue and force my opinions on a controversial issue on others...

Vegans let me be a meat-eater, therefore, I let them be.

@cyanide- Maybe smarter isn't the right word for it, but we do have a choice about whether we want to eat meat or not that other animals don't have...at least I don't know of any animals who have decided to eat differently than the rest of their species. I could be wrong though.

See the thing the same reason could be used for someone choosing to eat meat. A lot of animals don't eat meat ( or much meat) Therefore what is wrong with us not eating meat.Other animals don't think about how their prey is being treated to decide whether or not to eat meat. They just follow their instincts.

I feel we as a species were designed to be mostly herbivores who could eat small amounts of meat if the circumstances came up. Most of the studies about people seem to support this and most other primates seem to eat like this.

As for meat being unhealthy for people, I disagree and have not seen evidence to support this. We are a very flexiable species and can thrive with or without meat . What is unhealthy is factory farmed meat so maybe that's what this person was talking about.

Taking up hunting is a good idea if someone chooses to be an omnivore. Hunting is more humane overall, provides you with healthier meat and is better for the environment then supporting factory farms.

I personally like meat very much. I can certainly understand your concern if you don't like the way animals are treated in the process. It does happen, people can be very cruel to animals. That's not always the case but it does happen. I have no problem with vegetarians as long as they don't put me down for eating meat. Its a personal choice and everyone can do as the wish for any reason they wish. I know some people that simply are vegetarians for health reasons or just because they don't like the taste of meat. Actually, I feel bad for vegetarians because I am sure they get a lot of crap about not eating meat when its really nobodies business what you decide to eat or not eat. The last time I met someone who told me they were, I complimented them on their healthy lifestyle. She was extremely fit. She told me how everyone gives her a hard time. Its a shame people can't mind their own business and let people do as they wish. She is not hurting anyone else by not eating meat. People can very immature.

@Basically to everyone that's on the subject:: I would like to point out a few facts.

-Although we too are animals, long ago when we had to hunt, our bodies were made so that we only needed a little meat about once a month. But nowadays, people like the taste of meat, so they have it more often , not because they need it, people just believe that they need it. And anyway, we have so much food available to us that we can cancel out the need for meat entirely.

Also a lot of vegetarians don't boycott eating meat. My not eating meat wouldn't do anything and I know that. I don;t eat meat because I disagree with how the animals were treated in life. Also it makes me feel good knowing that I don't support a company like that. I also just don;t eat meat because it makes feel good altogether, emotionally and physically.

I also have another question for meat eaters...

Why do you choose to eat pork, but are disgusted at the question of why you don't eat dog?

They're both meat, pigs are just as if not smarter than dogs, so why?

I am a vegetarian.

I have been a veggie for nearly 13 years now.

I am almost 21 years old.

I do not eat meat because it is my choice. I feel it is wrong to kill and eat animals in this day in age.
