But if the kitty always stays indoors (thus no need for emergency climbing or self defense), and it's young when you have it done, I don't have a problem with it. They still have back claws. Just no more scratched up arms. xD

I agree. I have my cats declawed (well 2 of them are) as they totally destroyed the back of my couch when they were kittens. They have gotten outside a few times and let me tell you, they can defend themselves if need be and can climb a tree faster than anything.
