The majority of my friends are atheist. Wait, now that I think of it, I only have one friend who's Christian like myself.

Well, my friends respect my beliefs. Sometimes they make Jesus jokes. I don't laugh, I mean, it's insulting to me, and I'm not going to be a hypocrite.

I don't push my religion on others. I don't tell them that they're going to Hell. I can not force my friends to believe or not. God gave us a free will. But, I will stand up in what I believe in.

I wish that most Christians weren't hypocrites... Jesus says we're supposed to treat others kindly, so why are they being mean and telling people that they're going to Hell? I don't want my friends to go to Hell. I cry when I think about it... but the only thing I can do is just be their friend. I can't and I will not "shove my beliefs down their throats".

Whatever.

I've actually helped people become Christians by doing nothing but live my life the way God wants me to. If somebody asks a question about God or wants a prayer, of course I'll jump at that opportunity immediately.

It only works if someone wants to know.. If somebody is completely closed-minded about it, don't "cast your pearls before swine".

I think a lot of uber religious people have problems with people that are atheist because most of you said that you believe in some kind of force, but don't put a name on it.. so it bugs them.. And then there's the people that say that there's nothing, you just go into the ground and things eat you.. And that scares people because many people are afraid of death...so they freak out and say your going to hell because you don't believe what they do. I get the same thing from some Christians for being pagan.

It's just people judging you before they know you. It's called idiots. Not all religious people are like that, but most are raised that way. When more people hear the word Atheist, a picture of a gothic kid covered in peircings and satanic tatooos and purple hair pops into just about everyone's head. Don't be too offended by it though, most people are discriminated just because they're different.

I don't really think I am religious at all. I don't beleive in hell and I don't beleive in heaven actually I have no idea what comes afterwards and I don't like to pretend that I do. I don't really beleive in gods to much either it just seems a bit to much for me and I don't like the idea of just blindly accepting something because someone said that this is how it is.
But I think the problem with religions is that people are blind when following their religions. They beleive in it so deeply that they just refuse to accept any one else's idea. Although this isn't the case for everyone, I think the majority of people are flexible. Mind you no one has asked me my opinion about religion in a while. I told my religion teacher (didn't learn about religion more about ethics and acceptance those sorta things) I told her that I didn't really beleive that there was a god or a heaven or hell. She didn't seem all that bothered by it

I'm an atheist as well. I believe that there's is something out there, but I don't know what, and neither does anyone else. There are so many different stories about who or what created the world.

Teachers talk about religion a lot. They're always assuming that they don't have any atheists in the classroom. When I heard that, I blurted out that I was, and my teacher looked at me as if I was the devil or some sort. My teacher was saying how atheists probably wouldn't care about Anne Frank and the Holocaust, which is completely wrong, but it pissed me off.

The majority of my friends are Christians, and I have a Wiccan friend, and they all don't care that we don't share the same beliefs. I have two friends who are Atheists, that's it. Me and my friends discuss religion sometimes, but we never make rude comments about our differences. I think it's fun to discuss like that.

I'm an Agnostic Daeist right now.... and no, I didn't mean Taoist/Daoist. I have indeed created my own belief system. I believe in my, myself and I. For right now, that is all that I can truly put my faith and focus into. I guess I put the Agnostic part in there for the idea that I'm still open to the idea of a "God" and such.

I've really only talked to one person I would consider a bit of a religious zealot but he never really pressured others into his religion... He was definitely a debater but I don't think we ever broached the topic of religion.

Very religious people probably feel like if you aren't for their religion, then you are against it (there is no "co-existence" so to speak). Naturally, they try to convert those around them. It could also be that they feel part of their duty to a higher being is to convert people. I hold nothing against people who feel like they are trying to do something good for another person. As long as the intent is good, I have no problems with people trying to "convert" me, even if it doesn't work.

So, lemme guess, God could do nothing to stop Satan? I thought he was all powerful?

And I did read Genesis. I read the Bible. I had to- I went to a Catholic school for three school years.

I didn't say we had to be perfect- I'm just saying he could help a little bit more helpful, couldn't he?

You know, like not sending the poor Muslim children who die in war to Hell because they don't worship him?

EDIT:
Let me rephrase that- God doesn't send people to Hell, right? Satan just grabs them. Why can't God destroy Satan so that the children have a chance?
I thought that Satan was just an angel gone wrong or something...?

I'm atheist too but so are alot of people who live around me... but yea I think it's stupid how some people try to push their religions on other people! I mean seriously we all have our own opinions... There used to be a teacher in my middle school who kept talking about christianity and he didn't like the non christian kids so he pretty much gave them bad grades becasue of it! But some people got together and got him fired :D...

Law: God loved Lucifer (Satan, but you probably already knew that ^^;). I don't know if he still does, but that is why he granted him Hell. He was his favorite Angel. And Satan is only powerful if you let him be. Your faith is supposed to keep temptation and the devil out of your heart and away from you.

Muslim children do believe in the same God in my opinion and I don't believe he sends them to hell. I am not Catholic, but I am Protestant and we do not teach this.

We do however teach Salvation through Jesus which I only believe is half true.

I don't mind atheist. I'm borderline it myself. (mainly because I got sick of everyone telling me the "right way to worship god". However, I believe in a higher form of being. I don't believe in evoloution or the big bang theory but I don't really chastice people for believeing in them.

I think that I take issue with the atheists who take offence to other people who believe in religion. Like we recently had a issue where a bunch of atheist's wanted these little crosses taken down by a road side where police officer's had died.
Those crosses weren't hurting anybody. Thats like saying you can't put a christmas tree up.

Where I live, religion isn't really much of an issue. (Fortunately) A majority are Protestants, but no one mentions religion unless it is in a historical studies class, philosophical class, or someone just so happens to want to rant/debate about religion, which isn't very often if you ask me. Almost none of my friends are of the same religion, and that hasn't stopped us from visiting each other and discussing what is on our minds.

Of course, there's some discrimination when it comes to the teachers, and all of the students hate it, but arguing will usual result in failing the class, getting demerits and/or becoming shunned by people you barely know.

I go to the only non-religious oriented school in my town, so it's crammed to the brim with atheists. And you know what? They are fucking asses to the kids who go to church. It goes both ways. 'You're so stupid, there's nothing up there but clouds. When you die you die. You don't go to heaven'. Crushing these kids dreams, it's gross! No one should push a religion on someone else, even if that religion is of nothing, it's just not cool.

It's because most people are religious.
And if your not religious you don't believe in their god.
Therefore you are sinning in they're eyes
And therefore you are EVIL!

At least that's how my Religious friends put it.

[In response to Stickers post#56] Actually, you're what they call an agnostic. =3
[In response to Law's post#58] GOd made Satan as Lucifer, who was his favorite and most powerful angel. Unlike most of the other angels, Lucifer didn't like mankind. He was jealous that God was so proud of them, when Lucifer and the angels were clearly superior beings. Lucifer asked God why he liked the humans so much, and God was all like: "I give them free will to do as they please, AND temp them with forbidden fruit, but they are happy just to live in paradise, without any complaints at all... unlike some Angels I know..." Feeling insulted, Lucifer got about a third of the angels on his side, and they waged an extremley unsuccessful coo against God. God bitch-slapped Lucifer, and made Hell, so he could have a place to put him and the other bad-angels somewhere for time-out, and said: "I'll deal with you later." (To God, "Later" is thousands or even millions of years later. Since God has always been, he lacks our conception of "time" that's how he was able to create the universe in "6 days") "Later" is when the world as we know it comes to an end, with the four horsemen, whore of babylon, etc. etc... Anyway, Lucifer, now Satan, was banned from heaven, but he can still go anywhere on earth. So to spite God by corrupting his precious humans, he got them to eat the fruit of knowledge. That knowledge was the knowledge that they have the potential to do anything they want, regarless of what God says. All of their lives, they just blindly obeyed whatever God said, when they could disobey him, and he'd still love them. That's how sinners can still get into heaven, they just have to acknowledge what they did was bad, and ask for God's forgiveness. People who deny God's existence distance themselves far enogh from God for the devil to take their souls into Hell.
[In Response to aonith post#36] In my experience with Atheists, people that were raised by religious parents and then Became Atheists are respectful towards others' religions, but people who were brought-up atheist would start bashing every major religion they knew, and calling us stupid for believing in something that isn't real. Also, they burned churches in the Soviet Union because they were preaching a message that there was a higher power than Stalin.
[In Response to xXMidnaXx post#38] God's just taking a break from Earth right now. He made the whole universe, and all the life in it, so when Jesus came back, he lost interest in Earth, and started focusing on another one of his planets. Yep, not only do I belive in God, Satan, and Angels, I believe in Aliens, too. And Ghosts! (But not Platypi!)
[In Response to Julia Caesar post#43] OR maybe when us Christians die, and nothing happens, We'll finally see the error in our ways... oh, wait, we won't! We'll cease to exist at all, so nothing will matter! Man, that's depressing. :oI'd hate to be an Atheist. I mean, I already suffer from clinical depression as it is...)
[In Response to Lsaylor post#21] See, "The Bible" as we know it today, came out of a whole bunch of religious texts written by men. Some of these were incredibly stupid, and were only added by the Catholic Church in the Middle-Ages in order to scare and oppress people. However, they couldn't leave out some stories vital to the Christian faith, such as Adam and Eve, Moses, and Jesus. In these stories, Moses brings the ten commandments from God. those commandments being:
1. There is One God (More of a statement than a command, really)
2. Don't worship things that aren't God (He gets jealous)
3. Don't use the Lord's name in vain. (It hurts his feelings)
4. Remember the sabbath day and keep it Holy (also, don't commercialize christian holidays)
5. show respect towards your elders
6. Do not kill anyone
7. Don't commit adultery
8. Don't steal
9. Don't lie
10. Don't covet what someone else has (Coveting breeds contempt, and even hatered)
Also in the book of exodus, it says: that you should be kind to everyone, and open your home to bastard children. be as nice as you can to those with opposing views, but still stand firm in your faith. If you have more than what you need, give the extra to someone who needs it.
In the New Testament; Jesus says that it's rude to pray in public, not to judge other people, and instaed consider your own faults, as to improve yourself, that progressive taxation is the right way to go, love they neighboor, etc. etc.

There is no right or wrong belief. They are BELIEFS, not facts. If you believe in a god or not doesn't matter. People are stupid to say things like "You're going to Hell," and stuff like that because what proof do they have that a god exists? Or Hell for that matter. To be honest, I'm agnostic, so I have no problem accepting the truth when/if it is prooven to me.

My word of advice, just ignore them, if they can't accept that you have different thoughts than they do, then that's THEIR problem.

Religion is a funny thing. People live their whole lives believing something and when someone could possibly invalidate that belief, they get scared. It's not personal, it's human, and animal nature to fear what you don't understand. The religion is their answer to life, death, destiny, etc. No one wants to feel afloat in a sea of space.

That said, I'm atheist and don't preach either. I wish I still believed, I was happier then. But we can't find the truth if we don't set aside the fantasy... in my opinion.

Heres a Good Question;
why do people Follow a Book?
Because i dont think God Made/Wrote the Bible.

..Really if you follow god your just following a book with words.
.. Hum.. "page one: jump Off a building"

but Really Who has seen god and the devil and.. yeah.
you have to pass the.. line.. er.. gate.. whatever. you have to be dead to pass those things. and Theres Really never been a human to come back and tell about it.

I was always taught there are 3 things you don't bring up in polite conversation: Religion, Politics, and Money (and Sports, depedning on the person).

And DAMN is that true. For me, I'm probably Agnostic, though I describe myself as deist (I was taught it means you beleive in God, but you don't follow an organized religion). My parents are both Christian, but they raised us without heavy religious influence because they felt that if they did, it would ultimately make us hate religion.

My Mom's side (the Catholic side) is actually FAR less conservative then my Dad's side (Protestant). There's actually something very nice about ritual. I don't think it's necessary to communicate with a God, but there's something that feels old and right about it.

However, even if I do hold certain beliefs, I can't say to people "This is God. He does THis." It seems so arrogant to me.... one of the things I find offensive about some religions is that we claim he's (or she, or it) bigger then ourselves, but then we give it HUMAN emotions and motivations. I'd rather then be human-like from the start (think Greek Pantheon), or not be human at all.

I'm pretty much atheist as well. I don't like it when the religious people talk down to me, just because of my beliefs. Grr. It really ticks me off.

I don't really talk to my aunt for that particular reason. She's a...butt. XD

I can't stand the people who shove their crap down my throat. So, I just shove mine back down theirs. It's only fair, is it not?

And in the end, who really cares? I mean, religion is just one of the small, minor things we have to worry about in this world. Isn't worrying if you're going to keep your job, your house, cetera more important?

I'd have to say that it is.

I don't really believe that one religion is really the 'best', or whatever. And Atheism is just as much a religion as Christianity, or whatever else. Religion, is simply that to me. And not really much else.

I guess that most believe that we Atheists are evil, little people who want to kill others, and harm people... o.O;

I'm willing to listen to some extent to people who I can actually stand. But everyone else; NO THANKS! I'd rather not hear it. I already know what they will say, and I've heard it a million times before. K, thanks, bai. ^^;
