Yes the rumors are true Peter Jackson is planning to get "THE HOBBIT" up and and running soon. Weta who did the Special Efects for the LOTR movies is comming back to help out as well plus there is one rumor that they will hire del Toro(director of Pan Labyrinth,Hellboy 1 and 2*comming out this July*) to jump in and help out as well.
So what do you think?

It was harder for me to get into The Hobbit as a book, but I rarely let the book influence my desire to see the movie adaptation, so I'll more than likely go see it. After all, it is the precursor to LotR, and I've always been curious, despite the fact that I didn't read the book.

Not to mention, Ian McKellen is supposed to return as Gandalf, and that makes me happy. :'D

I didn't enjoy The Hobbit that much so if they make it into a movie i wouldn't be that estatic.
I wonder if they will add some of the cast from Lord of the Rings. (I'm pretty sure they had Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit. I'm not sure about Frodo and the others. xD.) Man it has been a while she I read it.

I did enjoy the book. But I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want to see it as a movie.

I'm really looking forward to it. I've been a fan of The Hobbit since first grade. I'll be interested to see who is cast... and what parts get cut. Poor dear Beorn is probably the first on the chopping block. I'm really curious to see how they will handle the various speaking animals.

It's got such a different feel than Lord of the Rings, so I don't think the result will be the same. I'd hate for people to go to the film expecting to see EPIC and then being disappointed because The Hobbit is more of a fairy tale.

So...I'm excited to see it! Very much so! =3

The Hobbit is my favorite by JRR Tolkien. I'm excited to see it as a film, actually I was disappointed they did not make it first (it is afterall about Bilbo when he first found the Ring) I believe (as someone mentioned above) the only Lord of the Rings character that anyone may recognize would be Gandolf, besides Bilbo. He is 111 when Lord of the Rings begins... (remember the birthday party?) So there's some time between the two tales.

It has an epic battle and something unique from the other tale ... a dragon!

Elrond will be there, too! And Gollum, of course.

You know, it would make sense for Legolas to be in the movie as well-- in his father's hall or at one of the elf feasts. Although I really hope they don't have him in there just for fanservice.
