My Mom was in love with this grey hound named Helena and she was being abused so we decided to try and adopt her and give her a new home....i'm not too fond of dogs but i saw my mom's face and she really wanted that dog.
But my step dad said we didn't have any moneyz so my mom was pissed so she went in her room and closed the door. Then once my step dad left I went in my mom's room and promised her we were gonna get the dog I said that i didn't know how but trust me we are gonna get the dog.
So after a couple of days passed I went up to her and said are we getting the dog and she said another owner had already took her. I felt bad because i remembered the promise that i made to her...
:(:(:(:(

Its not your fault, you had no idea that someone else would come by and take it. Dogs are adopted pretty fast I suppose, I'm sorry about your mom too. =(

I've never been in a situation like that, however, I think it's not your fault. I have no idea, what you should do, but try:
-Finding the person who bought the dog & ask them if they could sell the dog to you
-If you can't do anything, deal with it!! Stuff like that happen ALL THE TIME~!
-Buy another dog...?
But I do feel sorry for your mom and you......

My sister wanted this cute lil' blue heeler. My mom gave in to her and now she is destroying all kinds of things. I knew it was a bad idea. She's only 10 months old. Eventually your mom will find another dog like Helena. Until then, keep searching for another dog to make her happy.

I've never really had a situation like that that involved animals/pets but I've had it happen with opportunities, my friend had the chance to be in her dance competition national's and I apparently convinced her otherwise because it was my birthday and her team ended up winning without her. I felt so bad without belief and I refused to leave my room for 3 days, I took a great chance away from her because of my selfishness, I didn't even realize it was that big. ; __ ; I promised her I'd miss any competition I had for her but she's so nice that she wanted to stay with me for my birthday rather than dance. I know she was lying.
Try to make you mother feel as loved as possible and keep her happy, don't blame yourself for it. It was just another family giving her a good home, I hope. The dog has gone through enough already, it just needs love whether it be with your family or another.

I try not to make promises like that. When I make promises I NEVER EVER BREAK THEM. In your case it really wasn't your fault. I mean the people got to it before you :\

I wouldn't have made a promise like that. We already have a cat, and my mom isn't too fond of it.

I'll never understand why people make promises they can't keep.
It makes your word worthless.

I haven't been in a situation like that thankfully.
I don't know what would make it better, but if you don't have the money you don't, life's tough like that, but maybe she'll find another dog she'll want and hopefully you'll have the money then ;)
It's not you're fault, life just sucks like that, just be glad the dog got a new owner, it may not be you, but it's at least being treated right now :) I'm sure your mom will find another dog in the future.

My parents / friends / etc are understanding about things beyond a person's control,
therefore, I have no reason to feel sad about such kinds of let downs.
There's nothing really you can do, and they get over it.

I think you'll have to get over it, sadly. It isn't your fault though, dogs can be adopted in moments after being available.
With my dog, we [my mother, brother, and myself] were the ones to take the most wanted dog in the pound. We had to wait a week since the pound just got her and, we did so, got to the place at 8 AM, waited until it opened, and adopted her. Now she's spoiled as anything but I love her.

I know how you feel, in a way.
I looked at some turtles in a pet store, and she told us she might not get them. and my grandma just had to buy them for us after she saw our faces [me and my sister]. She had them at her house. after a while she just had to get rid of him/her because it was too much work.
it seems that you just didn't want her to feel sad, so you promised her something you thought you could do. It is not your fault she does not have the dog. I would comfort her now by saying the owner who bought the dog must be taking well care of it. :)

I've been in a few strange situations concerning pets but nothing like that. Your mother should be glad that the dog got a home though. What I think you should do is probably get her a dog that's not too high energy (Gray hounds run super fast and don't have very good noses so if they get out and see a rabbit and bolt for they'll get lost and that's very difficult) but will also be companionable (I would suggest something related to the golden retriever.) At least suggest something like that. You can always visit the humane society and check out the dog's there!
And it's not you're fault. You were trying to make your mother feel better and getting the dog just didn't work out.
I kind of know how you feel though because I'm the partial cause of the death of one of my sister's rats and three of her birds and I felt wretched... still feel pretty bad about it.

Awh, that's sucky... sorry to hear that. It's totally not your fault though, it's not like you knew someone else was going to adopt it. There's nothing you could've done to stop that or anything. I mean, sure you made a promise and all, but I don't think your mom is going to hold that over you or anything. You did your best and were there for your mom when she was upset, that's all that really matters.
