I sometimes wonder if I'm cursed when it comes to laptops. My first laptop's hard drive kept dieing to the point where I threatened to take them to court if they didn't refund my money (don't worry they coughed up).

This one seems to be better built but the power adapter on it has gone after 18 months. I'm currently using mum's adaptor as she has the same model laptop as me.

It's no virus or anything since I'm good with updating my antivirus and 2 antispyware programs at least every other day and running the scans weekly. I even look after my parent's machines and take care of my sister's if I'm staying at her place. Besides very few viruses actually destroy hardware and they're detected by antivirus.

My parents have had about 3 dodgy water coolers in a row. This one seems to work now and they're happy with it.

Anyone else ever had a bad run with technology of any sort?

I've had my computer for about 4 years. It's a Packard Bell, fairly basic with 512mb of ram and 70gb hard drive. Yet I've had no end of problems with it D;
When I first got it, it kept crashing, turning off randomly, and wouldn't play DVDs even though it has all the updated software and a DVD drive.
Then I had hundreds of problems with the wireless, to the point when it would only work if it said "not connected", and if it wasnt working it all, it said it was "connected". It also kept telling me that "a cable was unplugged", even though it was WIRELESS. D=
Now I'm having problems with my hard drive not being able to hold enough. I've put everything onto an external harddrive, except for a few programs and files. It's still reading that I'm taking up half the capacity with stuff :/
And also problems with my ram card. My computer can't run more than 2 programs at once, and the page file is at about 450mb when it's doing nothing :/

It's just a nightmare D; I've been thinking about getting a laptop, but I wouldn't be able to sell my current desktop with all the problems it has D; So no monies, no new laptop D;

I currently have a problem with my 2 year old Alienware laptop. It came with an integrated sound card and for some reason the computer is having problems locating the card and drivers. Sometimes the sound will work but only for a few minutes before there is static and then no sound at all. Plus, this problem is apparently affecting game performance because since this problem has started I cannot play any games with out experiencing severe lag spikes. I've tried lots of things to find out the problem but nothing seems to solve it. I've been searching around forums for solutions but there hasn't been a definite one. What's even more frustrating is that I'm not the only one having this problem. The Alienware technical support audio forums are literally inundated with people saying they are experiencing this and it seems that Alienware is looking the other way.

Right now, since I'm pretty low on money I'm thinking about purchasing a cheap external audio driver and seeing if that will at least give me some sound.

My first and only laptop has been through two harddrives. Luckily, they were covered under warranty both times. I'm so glad for that, but after nearly four years of having it now, I'm ready for a new laptop completely. I bought my desktop last year and I'm so grateful to have it. I have it customized the way I want it. I love that desktops, at least for me, are far more customizable. And I've never really had any problems with this, so it makes me happy. :'D

My first desktop was comprised of leftover parts and a few new ones my dad put together. While it ran, I didn't feel too impressed about it, but I never had to pay for it so I could never complain. I gave it back to my dad when he bought me a laptop, so my mom would have her own computer. I like my desktop more because I paid for it myself. xD Still, I'm pretty sure something was screwy with the first desktop, as it got hit with EVERYTHING. Anything imaginable that could go wrong, DID.

My laptop felt no different.
This one has had hiccups and I need to reformat my harddrive sometime soon, but it's been a lot more stable and I'm hoping it'll stay that way for more years than any of my other stuff.

I've never been good with hardware or software myself. It doesn't matter what it is - computer, game console, DVD player. I'm just not technologically inclined. xD
