A Place for The Way
A Hangout for Buddhists, Taosists, Philanthropists and anyone seeking an escape from suffering.
Introduction
A Place for the Way is a hangout for those seeking spiritual happiness without the direct involvement of a deity. This is not a thread meant to preach to anyone or to try and force others to convert to any religion or philosophy. It is meant as a place to discuss spirituality in your daily lives, and ultimately, yourself.
Please, feel free to ask any questions you have on Buddhism, Taoism, or really any religion. I am no expert by any means, but I am here to help. If you have any problems, feel free to vent or ask for advice. However, what this thread is created for is for spiritual growth. So, if you have had a spiritual experience, anything that has helped you, or anything that concerns spirituality, feel free to post it here.
Basically, this thread was, again, created for spiritual growth. Whatever your means to achieve what your brand of spiritual growth, and thereby happiness, is. Whether it comes from a God or yourself, the point here is to help you, and others reach their goal through conversation, discussion, and generally being there for each other.

Rules- This is a safe place, there will be no fighting.
- Follow the rules of Mene. (i.e. no spamming)
- Every post you make does not need to be spiritual
- Likewise, you do not need to be Buddhist or Taoist to hang out here. All religions are welcome.
- No preaching that any one religion is right. It leads to fighting.

Buddhism
Quote:
|
Buddhism is a variety of teachings, sometimes described as a religion or way of life that attempts to identify the causes of human suffering and offer a path that is claimed to end suffering. It is said by some to be a body of philosophies influenced by the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, known as Gautama Buddha. It is said by others to be a set of teachings to guide one to directly experiencing reality. Many scholars say that there is not one Buddhism but many Buddhisms, and the latest edition of one textbook is retitled Buddhist Religions.

Taoism
Quote:
|
Taoism (pronounced Daoism) refers to a variety of related philosophical and religious traditions and concepts. These traditions have influenced East Asia for over two thousand years and some have spread internationally. The Chinese character Tao 道 (or Dao, depending on the romanisation scheme) means "path" or "way", although in Chinese religion and philosophy it has taken on more abstract meanings. Taoist propriety and ethics emphasize the Three Jewels of the Tao: compassion, moderation, and humility. Taoist thought focuses on wu wei (non-action), spontaneity, transformation and emptiness/omnipotence. An emphasis is placed on the link between people and nature, and that this link lessens the need for rules and order, leading one to a better understanding of the world and one's surroundings.
