Under the GOP plan people would have been paying more money.
I have a whole thing under the tag but figured I would hide it in case no one is really interested in reading my babble. I'm generally someone that doesn't really go into this kind of talk (online or in real life) and understand that some people may not be interested.
SPOILERX
I mean, I think higher premiums are unfortunately inevitable in a marketplace setting. I just don't think this marketplace healthcare will work in our current system the way we all hope it would. They assume that healthy people would get the insurance and help balance out the sick. But a lot of healthy people have just opted to pay the penalty than the insurance premium. No balance means that health insurance companies are losing a lot of money with marketplace participation (and many of them are for-profit companies).
Having had to research plans every year with ACA, I could see that companies didn't want to participate anymore due to losses. Each year, there were less and less options with higher deductibles and with the overall expense getting higher. This year, I had to completely downgrade my plan less I pay $100 more per month for a similar plan than what I had last year. And then even last year, as a typically healthy person, I had to struggle with insurance with my OBGYN not taking it anymore and I had to take an unexpected trip to the ER.
Btw, I understand that these are completely issues of a somewhat privilege person. Again, I'm typically healthy, have steady income, and a roof over my head. So I can't imagine being someone that falls into one of the many gaping holes that our system has with healthcare. This is just my perspective.
The issue is, I had medical for over half the year and they still decided to fine me. That's just stupid, and they can charge upwards of 2k a year according to turbotax.
My biggest issue with that numbskull is the fact that he just declared war on clean energy. He is attempting to shut down the organization that is trying to keep our planet safe, basically allowing pollution such as the flint water crisis to be legal.

Yeah, I think the penalty applies for any lapse of coverage. Which really sucks.
I know and it's completely stupid. The fact that he made it into the highest office of the US just reminds me that we are such a broken society that people thought he would be a good idea. My one grandma was saying we should give him a chance two weeks ago and then was all "I don't talk religion or politics with family and friends" because she was getting upset that I basically said "Yeah, we gave him a chance and he screwed it up in less than a week."
edit: No topic kills threads quicker than that of politics.

Reason: to remind you that I am the queen of thread killing
If you have 3 or more months of no coverage you get charged for all of the months you missed. As if it's somehow your fault companies have a 3 month probation period where you get... NO INSURANCE.
Nah not dead just working.
I'm sorry... less than a week? He screwed it up before he started. Unfortunately my parents think global warming (that scientifically proven stuff) is a hoax, and that our glorious leader is amazing and doing everything so well. Wait... which country am I in again?

And there argument would be that you fall into special circumstances of not having coverage and you should have gotten it through market place. Not saying it's fair but that's what would happen
I meant when he actually started having the power as President of the United States. He has screwed up and screwed over many people long before this horrible idea popped in his mind.
I am grateful that my parents are not morons in the respect that they understand Trump is horrible. Unfortunately they are/were not proactive in countering people like him (neither voted in the election). I come from a very complacent family.

I wouldn't call this repeating history so much as Back To The Future predicting it. But that's me...
Dae - Yes... because I have all the time in the world to spend acquiring the cheapest insurance I'll have for a couple months.
I did not vote either to be entirely honest. There was nobody campaigning that I supported because the one person I deemed safe enough was booted from the campaign.
I know Bernie had some issues here and there, but there is one thing I do know. Animals. They know people. The eagle that saw Trump? Tried to bite him. Animals can sense his intentions. Bernie on the other hand, had a bird come up to him during a speech. He was viewed as not a threat despite how loud it was.

I know, the system unfortunately does not really see the grey in the world. Everything is black and white.
I'm sure a lot of people didn't vote because of Bernie not getting the Democratic nomination. But at the same time, I would have gone through and find out which candidate would most support what is important to me. Someone was going to become President regardless, might as well get my voice out there with my vote.
True... but I did look around, and I did not like the other people that much. Especially with how the news likes to make the others sound like they don't even exist. The democratic and republican parties are far too big. They need removed from the system. Perhaps a law preventing a party from running again the next year. That way the words "Democrat" and "Republican" will have to be removed in order to allow more of a "Who is running" mindset.
Basically you could run as an individual more easily than a party. And in order for someone to run their second term in a row, they'd have to win as a person not as a party.
Also it is much harder to buy a person than it is a company.
Ultimately, in order to fix this country we need to remove the labels not from gender and other stupid crap, but from our representatives.

Very good point. The two party system takes the united out of United States, I feel. We are such a divided country. And all the representatives taking sides because of labels is complete BS.
Although I guess the one positive of President Orange Face is that people on both sides are united in their dislike/hatred of him.
What I don't like is that he's taken LGBTQ+ off the 2020 census. That right there just pisses the ever loving fuck out of me. That and his attack on Meals on Wheels.
We are literally a divided country. There's a comparison chart as the congress progressed, to the point they are now almost entirely left or right.
True they hate him, but I still don't understand who voted for him.
I have read about this (part of my own acceptance that something this horrible happened in the US and trying to figure out the whys). Some just voted party lines, some people were looking for a change, and some people just wanted someone other than a typical politician in office. And the small number of them really believe in him to do what they think is right (particularly in regards to immigration, illegal immigrants, etc).
Even with all that, it blows my mind that people voted for him even with all that knowledge. He is belligerent, disrespectful, and just overall a bad human. So even with the answers I have found, I still cannot understand why people voted for him because absolutely none of them are a good enough answer.

I'm genuinely hoping he will be impeached before then. Which has now led me down the rabbit hole of articles about it.
Took them off the consensus? What exactly does that imply?
We can NOT impeach him. His vice is far far worse than he will ever be. Likely to in some way drastically harm the gay rights, potentially putting it into action to make it illegal. That guy I've read absolutely hates gays.
Trump was wise in picking him because as loud as he is, nobody noticed the horrible person who would replace him if he got taken out.

Based on what I'm reading, questions relating to sexual orientation and gender identity will not be incorporated into the 2020 Census. Although the closest they have come in relation to having anything LGBTQ on the survey was that an individual could acknowledge that they were in a same-sex relationship in the 2010 Census. But sounds like gay rights activist groups were certainly hoping for it.
Ugh, I always forget about that part. Because Trump is so loud and obnoxious, I always forget the tool Pence would be next.
I see. I dunno... I find that the sooner you purge the rest of the world's opinion of you the better your life will be. You like dudes? You wanna be a dude? You do you. You want breasts but still be a dude? I don't care. Whatever works for you. As long as your choices do not get forced on the rest of us.
I mean people would look at me funny because I am an RNA (Registered Nursing Aid). Their opinions in that regard don't matter. Males can be nurses. I don't need a consensus to tell me that.

That means that they will no longer "exist" and have no rights. Is what I am led to believe.
I'd say it's entirely possible that the topic was considered too sensitive, and so they were going to postpone them.
People nowadays are getting upset over the smallest things right now.
With people trying to identify as dragonkin, birdkin, foxkin, the whole subject in general is very.... hostile. We had a user on here that identified as something and got extremely hostile when we failed to use her proper pronouns on the first go.
Gender identity is a very very VERY touchy subject.
Speaking has a gender alternative, I think it's gotten foolishly out of hand. I identifie with women mostly. But at no time have I addressed myself has she. I have outdoor plumbing. It's a simple thing. Like saying land or sea. My biggest squawk is gender identification for clothing and accessories.
Well, I think some people get the plumbing "fixed" so they match what they feel they are.
what would you say in that case? j/w
i would say they are whatever they fixed their plumbing to. you wouldn't say a person who has a big nose, but got surgery to have a smaller nose, is still a big-nosed person?
People are dumb, a person is smart. I've found that to be the truest thing I've ever read. Despite being a quote heard in a movie.
Well if the plumbing is fixed the plumbing is fixed.
Regardless, the way I see gender identity, is that you can tell people to call you him or her, but in the end it's up to them to listen to you or not. Friends are more likely, coworkers may not, and a stranger doesn't give a sh*t.
What peeves me about it, is this makes for some likely fatal medical prescriptions. Telling your doctor you are male tells them what drugs you can take. Telling them you are female likewise. Females are extremely sensitive to some drugs. To the extent they can not at all cost touch them they're so volatile (and splitting them requires a full chemo gown). Taking them might kill them over time.
