The irony of it all is that I was a dog person for the longest time. But dogs are more high maintenance pets to have than cats and I don't have the time between my commute and working. I never thought I would ever have a cat, let alone five (and at one point, seven). But as the bumper sticker on my car would say if I were to ever defile my car in such a way:
Quote:

I didn't choose the cat lady life. The cat lady life chose me... Literally.

Also, good luck with the surgery. I hope it is something that will help you, abby

Thanks Dae.
Also if I had more room for litterboxes and food dishes I would have already gotten several more cats. Boyfriend be damned. (he doesn't really want more cats)

If I had the patience to take care of anything, I would have so many cats. I would blog about my cats.

Cats can be low maintenance when you can have most things automated. I have two automatic litter boxes, two dry food gravity feeders, and two large gravity water dishes.
Our cats aren't super into wet food, they really just like the gravy. So if I leave it out they won't eat it right away. Since we have bug issues, we can't really leave it out all the time.

Speaking of bug issues, I just saw a trap covered with gnat corpses and it was satisfying.

Yeah, I can deal with gnats and fruit flies. Also, our cats like to chase flies. Cockroaches are a bit more gross for me and I would like to avoid their return to our residence.

All bugs scare me to the point of scream-crying on the floor and spending days hiding my things so they don't land/crawl on them, and also because I'm too scared to sit still. :D

I'm allergic to cockroaches.
I've only seen a couple since we moved in, and they were actively coming in from outside in a crack in the sliding door (pesky lil fuckers)
My cat is usually what alerts me to them.
And he proceeds to kill them if he can. if not, I get them. >_> gross gross gross
but I'd rather they not lay eggs and start a mess.

Ants don't really bother me. We've had them but they are much more preferable to cockroaches.
monstahh`: Our cockroach problem significantly dropped off... well, basically after our neighbor died in his home and his family/friends sold the house to a flipper who gutted the entire place. Of course, that also resulted in Gob getting into our house... And spawning kittens in our basement...

My youngest daughter (now 31 years old) is deathly afraid of black ants! She says they bite! I have never had a black ant bite me....in fact, when I was a kid, I used to let ants crawl on me because it tickled!
I have fought many a battle with cockroaches.
They are attracted to damp places, like wet counters around sinks.
Luckily, once we would get rid of the cockroaches, the never returned, even though the downstairs neighbor was infested!
Before we got rid of them, I would sleep with the lights on, hoping it would keep them from coming near me in my sleep...I got in the habit of sleeping with tissue in my hand in case I woke to see one of the nasty buggers and I could smash it without having to run to get tissues!
I am sooo glad that those days are over!!
I used to clean apartments after people moved out...and I have horror stories about cockroaches...but I'll save them for another time! Lol!

Yeah, this guy's house was pretty bad. He didn't really have a back door? Basically, there was a giant tarp loosely covering the back of his house... So all sorts of animals were able to get in and out of the house easily. I mean, I don't want to know the details of the state in which they found him at the home but I imagine it to have been TV level, this doesn't happen in real life kind of situation.

Gross. >_>
The apartment I had 4-5 years ago was infested with cockroaches
they wwere coming in though the back door that led to a stairwell that led to a very poorly sealed basement.
And also half the windows going down to the basement were broken and when we complained to management, they said technically the staircase isn't a part of my apartment so there was nothing they had to do
and declined to do anything
this is also the place though that had the leaking sewage that they blamed on us even though sewage was leaking through the ceiling, and probably had been since before we moved in...

There are times I wish we had an apartment or at least rented a house. My BF's house is a lot of maintenance and when they did all the work the first time (they bought it as a fixer upper), they got sketchy contractors who did a shit job. So now they are paying for all the shitty work they had done (and in turn, I am involved).

Ah, most of the stuff isn't simple enough that I would trust us doing it. We have a messed up back door that we are looking to replace. We also want to gut the back bedroom and redo that but it has a ton of stuff in in right now. The BF is a bit of a hoarder and I can't convince him to get rid of anything.
The only feasible thing we are planning on right now is doing a tiled ceiling in the kitchen (partially because that's messed up too and we have tried to fix it only to make it worse).

When you say "gut the bedroom" do you you mean to tear out the walls?
Hanging drywall really isnt as hard as it seems.
But, on the other hand, it is trully surprising what a coat of new paint can do for a room!
What was wrong with the kitchen ceiling that was made worse? I am curious. I used to help my ex husband do renovations and I don't recall fixing a kitchen ceiling. It was usually patching or replacing drywall and lots of painting.

Right now it's ugly panels instead of drywall. And we need to take out a closet and put in a new closet in a different location. I am not remotely handy in that department. Give me Ikea furniture and I can do it in a snap but ask me to use real tools... Well, I will just look at you blankly.
There was a leak from the roof that was caused by the poor maintenance next door. Our kitchen is an addition w/ it's own roof. Anyway, leak led to some ceiling damage. BF's dad cut it out the damaged dry wall and tried to put new dry wall up. However he cut the piece wrong twice... He kept getting thrown off by the recessed light that was there. It's a super sloppy job up there with lots of gaps between the new drywall and old. There were other parts that were replaced improperly as well in that room.
That just reminds me that the one archway/entrance to the kitchen is also making the BF anxious because he sees cracking and can't really tell if it's settling or something else...

If the drywall is stable on the kitchen ceiling, the gaps can be filled with joint compound or spackle and covered with drywall tape before painting.
Removing the panels in the bedroom may prove to be fun! Demolition is always the fun part of remodeling! Lol!
Also, the crack in the archway is probably caused by settling...ya might take a look at the foundation for cracks there.
That crack can be filled with joint compound, also, and painted over.
I hope any of this info has been helpful.
