Haha, I wish there could be bigger pages. I tend to forget what I have unless it's all in front of me, at the same time...

Hi Akasha!

My 9 year old son has ADHD. He is fine at home (except when it's time to study his spelling) and when we are out places - but in school he has the worst time. Although I think this year he is doing better.

I like Fridays too. I might be going over to my friend's house later.
But maybe not. He boyfriend is staying with her right now, and he's a bit of a jealous/selfish prick. So...:/ Might not be too fun.

I;m sorry Lissi, I understand his pain.

What kind of trouble is he having at school? Is he bored or having a hard time concentrating? Spelling was also my worst problem.

Whatever you do. Please do not do Ritalin. I was on that horrid stuff and well it stunted my social skills, horridly.

Aww, thank you Akasha!

Yes, he has a problem with concentrating in class because any little noise or movement distracts him. And with so many kids in the classroom it has overwhelmed him in the past.

Actually, this year he is doing better in the classroom. He has a teacher who is wonderful and very good at dealing with all kinds of kids. His only problem so far has been blurting out words when it's not his turn. I'm hoping as he gets older he is able to keep it more under control on his own. Did you find that the case for you?

Yes and no. I'm still bad at blurting things out but as you grow and realize how much your in control you learn. Hopefully he will learn to do better and it helps to have understanding teachers.

Ihad teachers that would let me read and draw in class and that helped me concentrate on both what they were teaching and what I was doing. But glad to here he has a teacher right now willing to help.

Yep.
It also stunted my growth, I'm supposed to be taller. ; o;

But yeah, I mostly took metadate, not ritalin, which, now that I'm off, while my social skills are still extremely poor, I am much more able to be social. ^___^ I'm not graceful, but I'm working on it. XD

I take adderall now, if you're curious.

I just got home from Chinatown. :D It was pretty...interesting. The food was good, but the main streets all smelled like shit. Lol.
Oh, and Little Italy was having a streetfair thing, and we went to that too. :D Got fried oreos.

We've only driven through Chinatown in Chicago. I keep meaning to take the boys there and walk around and eat somewhere!

The food there is pretty good. :3

We have leftovers that I will devour tomorrow.
Though, I might heat up something in a little bit, I didn't eat much while we were there...I had too much water and was full cos of it.

I never took addrall. I tried one other and didn;t like it.
I do not know if I should be taller than I am but I think I'm pretty good for my hieght. And I actually like being short.

I need to go to china town in SF. Haven;t gone since I moved but been trying to get a job.

I've been to Chinatown in San Francisco twice (about 8 years aprart?).
Intereting place, and funnily a bit of a relief for me since I can blend in very easily.

And I agree, the food was pretty good. As long as you know what to order.

@ Akasha & monstahh - My son very briefly took Adderall. It did not work well for him at all. He became very easily upset. He is now on Concerta and it seems to work well for him! We have constant check ups with the doctor to make sure his weight and height is ok - he is actually very tall for his age.

I do hate that he has to take medication, but the benefits from it are very noticeable for him. The daily struggles at school were just too overwhelming when he was not on it.

Another side-effect of adderall, and probably why I stopped taking it so long ago.
My mouth gets dry, and I'm thirsy all the time.
And I drink water to try to stop that, but then I have to pee. Constantly.

=___=;;
Which is NOT cool. D:

<grumbles>
Might have to switch again.

Lissi - No one likes having to take medication. ^^;; Even I don't, but I can tell the difference between when I am on it, and when I'm not. And honestly, it's worth it. .__.;;
Off my meds I'm horribly moody (one second I could be really happy, next I'm very angry), prone to outbursts/seriously depressive phases (suicidal urges and the like), easily agitated, unable to focus, and probably others that I don't even think about. XD;

But yeah, if there are side-effects that trouble me, there is usually something else that can be tried. Like, depakote made me terribly tied all the time, made me gain weight, and stuff like that. Lamectal makes me dehydrated (plus the adderall with the dry mouth and dehydration...i don't think that's a good mix). Oh, and adderall stops being so effective after a while, so you have to take a few days break from it, but as it is addictive (like most ADHD meds.../meds in general), you get withdrawl headaches. Which >really< suck.

What I'm on now though is lamectal and adderall. Going to try to get one switched for something else, probably the lemectal, as the adderall allows me to be social and the like, but also helps me concentrate, which metadate was not doing. Plus metadate took away my appetite, allllll day, so I sometimes went 2-3 days w/o eating, w/o even realizing it!

XDD;;
