I'm at a point a lot of people are easily at, especially in the beginning ^^"

Normally I don't really have a lot of problems with ideas for a story, but normally I write thriller... which is quite easy to start xD

If you were to see a story that would go something like this;

Amane is your typical wall flower. She gets good grades, doesn't interact with others a lot, doesn't care about her appearance, but is crushing upon one of the most popular guys in class. He doesn't seem to care much about her, not even really noticing her.
Every night when preparing for bed, Amane sits in front of her mirror, talking to herself over her day, about her love and about her life. Yet one day, her mirror reflection doesn't quite follow her movements anymore. Her reflection asks her; "Would you like to be beautiful?"
The moment Amane answers with a positive answer, however, her whole worls gets turned upside down as she watches her reflection live her life from the other side of the mirror...

Seeing as it's a high-school girl that's the main character I was thinking of having it start at the school, maybe, but I'm not sure if that's overrated or not...

Well, I think that it would work to start out at the school by showing a typical day in your character's life and how she's treated by her classmates. Then you can go into the major turning part.
It sounds really interesting.
I kind of think that I may have read something like this before, but the title or author kind of eludes me at the moment.
Keep working on it, I'd love to read it sometime.

Best to get a good grip on what you're working with first, afterall xD

If you do start the story out with just a regular day, I would recommend that your first pages detail an especially harsh event, or something striking-- maybe a passionate description of the guy she likes. People who pick up the book based on your synopsis will be anticipating surreal, arresting events, so at least go with some nice foreshadowing that will keep them hooked from the beginning.

I also want to make a recommendation: I think a story like this could really gain a lot from being in the first person perspective, even if that's not what you usually work in. It sounds like it has a lot of potential to deal with intimate issues in the protagonist's life, which can gain additional significance through the use of an equally intimate POV.

Here's a secret: you don't always have to write the beginning of a story first (or at least you don't have to think that you are)!

Your little blurb up there is a very good exposition to set up the novel. It's the classic way to go--you give the name, setting, personality, background information, etc. But many stories don't start at the beginning. I would say to write a scene from your story that strikes you. Don't start with the ordinary. The ordinary is boring--it's not going to grab anyone.

I do agree with chadarnook. First person would really bring in a lot of depth. Think about using it. It's not as hard as one thinks. After all, one uses first person all the time when he is talking about himself.
