Ok, so I remember telling the GD on gaia that I think about my posts IRL and they're all like, "Aww, I'm so sorry. You shouldn't do that it could really f*** you up."
I'm thinkin to myself, "No, it could f*** you up because you are the ones that take it seriously."

I mean if you think about it, if you let your posts or anyone elses post get to you, it's like letting pixels get to you. It's not that serious. Why get mad at someone who you don't know IRL and may never even meet?

-------Also-------

Why do people like to try and get on your nerves over the internet. Is is because you can't beat them up? It's all dumb. What's the point of getting irritated and irritating people over the internet. Especially in the GD where it's made up of debates and discussions that will frequently have users with differing opinions. It doesn't make sense.

I usually think about my posts IRL. Except for when it's late at night and I'm missing my brain or something. I do care for other's feeling and I try to be nice and polite. [Though, if it's pure chatspeak, I might not be very nice... ⌐.⌐]
Sometimes I let people's posts irritate me. But they're usually people I've talked to for a while, or people I know, or even topic I'm sorta sensitive about. [Scatter-brained here.]
I think it's kinda stupid to fight over the internet. If you don't know the person, what's the point?
Cyberbullying=bad.

I post usually what I would say in real life. xD Sometimes it does annoy what people say to me cause it does slightly hurt my feelings. But when I think of how I don't know them, I just let it fly by and move on. :3

Gaia's GD is stupid. Everyone there thinks they are funny, that they are popular.. But all they are is just a bunch of vain stupids with a lacking sense of humor. Ive never seen a single very hilarious thread on Gaia's General Discussion.

The most pathatic thing of all, is that they try to "own" someone while using fancy looking posts, emoticons, bad grammar and silly sigs. The avatars besides it make it look even silier. Come on, you can not take those people serious, can you?

Being an ass on an avatar site is just not going to make you look cool :XD

I have a hard time separating the two. I am always me, so if I am having a bad day, it shows up on line too. When I see something that worrys me in a post, I worry about the person all day till I know they are safe.

I guess, it is because people are always asking me what I think at my job. I work at a grocery store, so I meet a lot of people.

I'm sort of like Amyrex in a way.

The way I feel and act in real life is portrayed through my typing on the internet. So, I very much relate real life and here together.

I am getting rather tired of gaia now...as I am sure lots of people are. Unforutnately, i've invested too much into my account there already. *sighs* I bet those people there wish I would leave too so they can have my pixels. XD

I tend to avoid Gaia's GD like the plague. There's too many trolls and the people there tend to be so full of themselves I just want to smack them upside the head. Because seriously, who cares if your popular in an online forum?

Sometimes I think about my posts IRL. But that's mainly because I have really bad anxiety problems and tend to worry obsessively over whether or not my post sounded stupid or if I said something that would make me seem like a moron or arrogant or whatever. Logically I know that it doesn't matter, because even if someone did think any of those things, I don't know them in real life, so who cares, but I do it anyway. I try to consider other people's feelings, and I'm usually polite. What I post is usually what I would say IRL.

Do I let people's posts get to me? Sometimes. Like if someone says something mean in response to a post I made it kind of upsets me and then I worry about posting again. But I try not to let them get to me too much, with varying degrees of success.

People that fight over the internet/cyberbullying -> this has a lot to do with being able to keep your identity anonymous. The internet has given us the ability to be whoever we want. We can make up identities and nobody would ever know that we weren't telling the truth. People bully others for various reasons, but it all boils down to low self-esteem. By bullying someone, you make yourself feel better, it gives you a power trip. In real life however, you usually wind up having to pay for your actions. Online, however, you can be completely anonymous. When people can make their identity anonymous, it lets them feel like they're not responsible for their actions. So a cyberbully can bully someone online and get that rush, they feel powerful because they made someone else feel bad, and they don't have to take any responsibility because nobody knows who they are, so they don't have to feel guilty or worry about being caught.

Well, there is a real person behind the pixels, with real feelings and opinions. It's not like we are made up NPC's. I hope that's not what you're saying.
I agree with you that you shouldn't take things on a forum too seriously to the point of interfering with real life. That's like saying keep work issues at work and home issues at home, etc. It's easier said than done, however.

An argument on a message board will bother me just as much as an argument anywhere else.

There have been times when someone would seriously disrespect me and be completely rude for absolutely no reason, and it really pissed me off. I was ranting about it to other people (who aren't on a message board) and it generally put me in a bad mood.
Just because they're far away doesn't make it any different. It's still a person combating with you.
Whether or not you'll ever see them in the flesh doesn't matter. It doesn't make their opinions or feelings any less real than it makes yours. Thus, it's just as infuriating, hurtful, or annoying as anywhere else.

I think about posts in real life when I read them. They only get to me if they're post implies they think they're better than everyone else. Those kind of people irk me.
I avoid fighting on the internet cause it's stupid to do so. It won't get you anywhere.
If people realized it was a real person they're dealing with and not just a machine or text than maybe people wouldn't bully or harass other users.

I don't usually get mad at people on the internet, but when I do, it's because they've said or done something that upset me. Depending on what the person has said or done, it also bothers me that I can't punch them in the mouth.

Call it foolish, but you could say the same thing about someone you don't know in real life that angers you. You may never see them again, so why bother getting upset in the first place, right? [:

When I was in junior high and high school, I was bullied a lot. It angered me, it made me cry. But eventually I learned to suck it up because getting mad or crying wouldn't change anything.

Haha. I try to be NICER online. I'm a bit of a blunt bitch in person, unless I really like you. (I bet you guys could never tell! XD)

My "online persona" is a lot more sweet, forgiving, and polite. I figure, I don't know you in real life, I have no reason to be pissed at you for not being as educated as you should. I don't know how much education you've had. Stuff like that is what gets me in trouble IRL. (I bitch at fellow highschoolers who are ignorant fucks and can't spell worth shit. Or use grammar. Or the ones that use "Ebonics" constantly. The Asian "ebonics"-users crack me up. I've seen a mother slap her son's face for talking like an ignorant moron. XD)

But yeah. I figure, also, I tend to have more in common with people who go to these sites. So I might as well be friends with those who I have stuff in common with!

I think cyber bullying is a big problem, but I never understood why.
I suppose when you say they're just pixels, they are, but someone that is just as real as you are is writing them. Thought thye've never affected me IRL, or do I even consider them at all, some people get offended easily cause the internet is the only means of positive social interaction that they get, whether because they're bullied at school or they are homeschooled, to some kids it means a lot.

It's not like "cyber bullying" is anything new. Real people have bullied real people in real life for AGES, so it only stands to reason that people who are bullies would thrive in this anonymous internet where they can reach more people and have fewer consequences.

Even if it is just pixels, it is still text. It is still someone's words. And the old saying maybe, "Sticks and Stones can brake my bones, but words can never hurt me." But that's a damn lie. Words can hurt. No matter where they come from.

people do it because
a. it gets to you and
b. you can't do anything about it
luckily, here on mene, we have a dedicated staff that will punish anyone who harrasses you.

people feel from it because words are words. spoken or written, nothing will change the fact that they have meaning. not to mention that, although you see it as simply a site full of faceless people all talking to each other, many people see it as more of a community. we make friends, we make enemies. it's kind of like an after school program. there will be people who like and people you hate, but you want to continue the activity because you like it. then one day, one of the people you hate makes a remark about how fat you look that day. they mean nothing to you. they are annoying, ignorant people. maybe they are even fat themselves. yet still you feel the hurt.
this isn't everyone, but most people.

Pixels are pixels, with no emotions, but when there's a real person directly behind these pixels, then it's quite different.
Being bullied by people whose faces you often see hurts, but in the Internet, where the person in front of you is much less likely to be someone you know personally, it's pointless. Trolls are a bit different, since it's everyone they want to bother. With too many trolls, everyone is bothered. As for people who think their s**t doesn't stink, well, there's always the Father Time.

J/k but for real it is stupid because it usually is for a really stupid reason. But sometimes it is pretty funny to get in a fight over the internet. xD

I find it hilarious when people throw a shit fit over minor things, like words,
both on the internet and real life.

Besides, if they are bothered by it, I find it to be something far more wrong with themselves than me. All I'm doing is seeking out entertainment.
These kids need to see a therapist about those insecurity problems. How pathetic.

I disagree strongly.

Nothing is "just pixels". Everything that is pixels was created by someone who is real. Everything that is pixels represents someone who has feelings, hopes, dreams, life. I think anyone who doesn't think of the people they're talking to as though they were right next to them has a completely distorted regard for humanity. Words online affect someone just as much as words in person can affect someone. It's highly ignorant, in my view, to think that just because you can't see someone's face, it's OK to act as though they are merely pixels.

Amen.

People are people.

And words are meant for communication. People are affected by the messages communicated by words. People are affected by others' actions. Period. People have feelings. Anyone who doesn't wish to acknowledge that has their own problems.
